Zoey Taylor. A name that everybody knows. A person not everybody likes. And I’m totally fine with that. I might not be considered as the most popular girl in school, but I’m not a loser or anything like that. I don’t like to live up to people’s standards, and I don’t like most guys. In fact, I haven’t been out with a guy since sophomore year in high school. Now I’m a senior and I’m still single.
It’s not that I don’t like guys, it’s just that 99.9% of the guys in my school are typical. Jerks, self conceited, and stupid. They don’t care about what girls want or what they like. That’s why I don’t like any of the boys in my school. Well, none that have caught my eye.
My sister, Ashley Taylor, she’s the complete opposite of me. She’s a sophomore in the same high school I go to. We’re not exactly on the same level when it comes to boys, high school or reputation. She’s considered as the most popular girl in her class. Whenever we talk, we end up fighting. It’s normal, actually. She just hasn’t learned what I’ve learned yet.
My father, Mr. Michael Taylor, is a regular dad. You know, the overprotective, loving dad. He doesn’t want us to screw up in life, and he doesn’t want us both to date. Well, more like, he doesn’t want Ashley to date. I’m going to college soon, so I don’t really matter anymore. Thank God.
My mother, Mrs. Karen Taylor, was a beautiful, loving woman. We don’t talk about her anymore. Not since she died. I really loved my mother and Ashley never really knew her. She died when I was 6. My father never really told me why she died, but nobody brings up the subject anymore. I think it’s better that way.
Myself? I’m more a rebel, than a girl that thinks she’s all that. I don’t do stupid things like smoke, or go get knocked up. I’m smarter than that. I like to be original. I have one best friend, Kelly Johnson, who‘s been there since I can remember. Basically, I live a normal life. But, there’s more to my life than just that. I guess you’ll just need to read more to find out, won’t you?

“Nick!” I looked over to my right and saw my friend, Chris, come over to me.
“What’s up man?” I said to him, doing that, “guy handshake”.
We sat on the brick wall, overlooking the whole school ground. I saw my brother Joe talking to his friends and laughing. He probably said something stupid again. I looked around some more while Chris was talking to me. But then, I tuned him out when I saw someone.
“Yo, are you listening to me?” Chris asked me. “What are you looking at?” He hit my shoulder.
I came back to Earth and looked at him. “Who’s that girl in the Fall Out Boy t-shirt?”
“Ashley Taylor?” Chris looked at me, laughing. “You kidding?”
I shook my head and looked back at Ashley, “No. Why?”
“She’s like the most popular girl in our class Nick.”
“So, what?”
He put his hand on my shoulder and said, “You have a lot to learn.”
“What?” I asked him.
“Nobody can touch her. She’s… untouchable!” He said.
“Really?” I said sarcastically. “Why’s that?”
“The Taylor dad is so overprotective. It‘s a widely known fact that the Taylor sisters aren‘t allowed to date. Including you.” I sat there, looking at her. “Well… she is looking for a French tutor.”
“That’s perfect!” I said, smiling.
“Dude, you speak French?” he asked, confused.
“No. But I will!”

The bell rang as I was walking into my English class, dreading school already. I saw Kyle sitting in his seat and laughing at his friends. When he saw me walk in, he glared at me. I glared back at him. I hated Kyle Peterson and I made sure that everybody knew that.
“Alright then!” My teacher clapped his hands. “What did everybody thing about, The Sun Almost Rises?”
A girl raised her hand and he nodded towards her. She then had a dreamy look on her face when she said, “I loved it. He’s so romantic.”
I looked at her, wondering if she was stupid or not. “Romantic? Hemingway? He was an abusive, alcoholic misogynist who squandered half of his life hanging around Picasso trying to nail his leftovers.” I told her.
“As opposed to a bitter self-righteous hag who has no friends?” Kyle spoke up, laughing while his friend gave him a high five. I turned around and glared at him.
“Shut up, Peterson!” My teacher said to him. Kyle stopped laughing and looked at him, sitting up straight.
“I guess in this society, being male and an as-shole makes you worthy of our time,” I replied still glaring at him.
The whole classed made, “ooh” sounds. You know, that immature thing people always do. I smirked and leaned back into my seat. Someone walked into the class room and people turned around to see who it was. “What’d I miss?” I looked over and saw Joseph Jonas standing there, smiling. I sighed and turned back around, “Nothing important.” He looked around and nodded, “Good.” Then turned back around and walked out of the classroom.
“Hey hey!” The teacher yelled, trying to stop him. But he was already gone.
“Mr. Morgan,” Kyle spoke up, “Is there any chance we can get Zoey to take her Midol before she gets to class?” I glared at him for the 100th time that day.
“Some day you’re going to get you’re a-ss kicked,” Mr. Morgan started, “And I’m not going to do a thing about it!” Kyle looked at him shocked, while everybody laughed. “And Zoey. I wanna thank you for your point of view. It must’ve been difficult for you to grow up middle class in a suburban home. Must be tough!” He said sarcastically.
“Anything else?” I asked him.
“Yeah. Go to the office. You’re pissing me off.” He said pointing towards the door.
“What? Mr. Morgan-” I started.
“Later!” He shouted walking away from my desk.
I picked up my things and started walking towards the door. While I was picking up my backpack, I threw it over my shoulder harshly, intending to hit Kyle’s face. I hit his face while he was laughing and he immediately stopped. He looked over at the teacher, shocked. Mr. Morgan said nothing.
“Good morning Zoey. How lovely to see you… again.” Mrs. Clark said to me as I walked in.
“Always a pleasure, Mrs. Clark,” I beamed, sitting in a chair.
“Speaking your mind yet again?”
I nodded, still smiling. “Of course!”
“Listen, Zoey,” she started. I looked at her and she said, “People see you as…” she couldn’t find the word.
“Tempestuous?” I offered.
“Heinous b-itch is the term used most often.” I smiled and nodded my head, pleased. “You might wanna work on that.” She added. “Thank you.”
“No, thank you,” I laughed, leaving the room.

“Who’s that guy?” I asked Chris. This guy just looked at Ashley, and I knew he was checking her out.
“Kyle Peterson.” Chris said. “The coolest guy in the school.”
“Coolest?” I asked him.
“Alright. He’s one of the coolest guys. Point is, every girl loves him.”
I saw Ashley start smiling when he came over to her. He put his arm around her shoulders and began to flirt with her. I started to glare at them, wishing I was the one talking to her. “I don’t like him,” I said to myself. But I must’ve said it out loud since Chris started laughing at me.

I walked over to my car with my friend, Kelly. We got stopped by Kyle who said some stupid remark. I was so tired, I just let him have it. I rolled my eyes and hit his shoulder, walking the rest of the way to my car. I saw him stop by Ashley and her friend Kayla. They smiled and got in the back of his car. I sighed and shook my head. “He’s disgusting.” Kelly laughed and told me to drive.
I started the car and got cut off by some guy on a bike. I honked at him and yelled out my window, “Move!” He waved his hand quickly and nodded looking down. He moved out of the way quickly and I left.
“You okay?” Nick asked Chris. Nick was laughing at Chris.
“Yeah. Yeah, just a minor encounter with the shrew.” He nodded pointing his head at the car that was leaving, “That’s your girlfriends sister.”
“Wait, that’s Ashley’s sister?” Nick asked.
“Yup, that’s her. I gotta go. Peace,” Chris said. Nick nodded and said goodbye to his friend.
