Chapter 1
[Reunited and it feels so… AWKWARD!]
[Haley’s POV]
We were driving up to the cabin and I could feel a swarm of butterflies fluttering in my stomach. My mom continued to talk about how my the Jonas boys became so successful, but on the inside they were still just the three boys down the block.
I wanted to believe her. After all I hadn’t seen them in a little over two years. And my mom had been the one to see the whole Jonas clan on one of her business trips a month ago. According to her, Nick had grown into a man, acquiring muscles, height and a beautiful smile. Kevin was still obsessed with his guitar, playing it every free second he had. And Joe, well Joe was the same sugar-high, act-then-think and he had always been.
We pulled into a cobblestone driveway, but were stopped at a gate. My mom rolled down her window and pressed a small black button on a pole then talked into the intercom.
“Its us!” she said in her high spirited voice.
There was an annoyingly high BEEP and then the gates opened, revealing a beautiful lakeside cabin.
“Mom since when have they had that gate around the cabin?” I asked, confused at the newly put up security.
“They just put it up, you know to keep crazy fans from coming. It’s just an extra precaution,”
I shrugged, maybe things were going to be different.
“Here we are,” my mom said, parking the car.
I sat in the car just one extra moment, trying to prepare myself for this reunion. I opened the door and the warm Californian air surrounded me. I breathed it in deeply. It was different than back home, but somehow it intrigued me.
I nervously walked up the steps and joined my mom at the front door.
An vaguely familiar boy, well man now, opened the door. He wore an oversized scarf around his neck, which I found odd since it was beautiful weather outside, and not cold at all.
“Mrs. Jacobs!” he said and hugged my mom loosely.
“Kevin,” my mom responded.
Before he even noticed me there was another person calling my mom’s name. “Diane!” called Mrs. Jonas, appearing from behind Kevin.
“Oh, Densie, I was just admiring your amazing gardening,” my mom said, gesturing to the colorful flowerbeds.
The two women went on to talk in a small conversation. I stood there awkwardly, until I noticed that Kevin was still in the doorway, looking at me with a confused expression.
“Haley?” he asked quietly.
“Kevy,” I said with a smile.
“HALEY!” Kevin said, now sure that it was me. He immediately picked me up in a bear hug, pulling me inches off the ground.
Once he set me down we resumed silence. Just looking at each other, at a loss for words. He looked so different. His hair was a total mop top, but he made it work. He wore the most stylish skinny jeans. And he was no longer the scrawny boy that I used to know, but had filled out with muscle and mass. One thing remained the same though, his eyes.
He seemed to be pretty interested in me too. His eyes scanned me, looking over the clothes, hair and skin.
“You look so… different,” he said.
It was true. Since I had seen the boys I had become obsessed with the gym, got some style, and learned how to style my hair. Resulting in a much toned body, better clothes [including a closet full of skinny jeans], and rocker straight locks.
I gave him a questioning look, as to ask if that was a compliment, or a well disguised insult.
“No, I mean that in a good way,” Kevin said.
I smiled. He was still the same old Kevin I knew and loved.
