In case you didn’t know, my name is Brooke Adelina White. I used to be the All American Girl. But those days are long gone, I’ve changed. I have long brown hair, fairly tan skin, and I’m about 5’4. I used to have the most entrancing brown eyes, but after what’s happened, they’re almost as white as snow. Or at least, that’s what people tell me. I can’t see. Yeah, yeah, I bet you’re wondering what happened to me. And if I’m going to tell you, you better sit down. A few years back I fell in love with this band, The Jonas Brothers. I had such a strong passion for them-I…it was like I was in love. Really, I WAS in love. Over the months they became more and more popular to where they were the biggest thing in the country. But that wasn’t until recently. I met them a few times when they were first starting out. They were so humble, funny, nice…everything a girl could want in a guy. But this was all of that times three. But…they forgot about me. As much as we talked, they forgot. But Joe DID recognize me, you know Joe, right? Yeah…he smiled to me every time he saw me on stage. Back when my eyes were brown…
To the point. It was a few months ago, the boys were starting their new tour with Miley Cyrus…Hannah Montana…does it really matter? Yeah, I went to one of those concerts. It was the only event they were doing in my area for the concert, so I HAD to go. I was front row somehow, and yes, I only paid 67 dollars for my ticket. It’s called a NON SCALPER SITE. Sorry…I get off track. But hey, that’s important, right? Yeah. Well anyways, the concert was amazing, and Joe caught my eyes again and smiled. Still brown.
When I saw him and Miley, I wasn’t scared. I loved him…more than ever, but I knew nothing could ever happen between us. After the concert was over and I watched him and his brothers glide off stage practically drowning in their brilliance, I went back to the once perfect black Jeep Liberty that my best friend Lilly was driving. We also brought my boyfriend, at the time we had been going out for six strong months, Spencer. He didn’t want to go at first, because he claimed it was ‘stupid.’ But I didn’t even need to beg him. He said yes right away after seeing how much I wanted him to go. I guess he really loved me, huh…
Lilly also begged her boyfriend John to come. He said yes, of course.
Yeah…loved. After we all packed into that black Jeep Liberty, it happened.
Lilly in I were in the front seat. I popped in my Jonas Brothers CD and the opening notes of SOS blasted through the car. We started screaming at the tops of our lungs as we sang. Spencer and John were in the back seat laughing at us, Spencer whispered I love you into my ear as the chorus came.
Lilly and I ripped into the chorus. "OHHHH THIS IS AN SOS. DON’T WANNA SECOND GUESS, THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE IT’S TRUE, I GAVE MY ALL FOR YO-"
We didn’t even get to finish that line. A huge 18 wheeler collided with us from the side. Spencer’s door.
It all went blank from there. I felt the car crumble under the 18 wheeler, which now ‘rested’ on top of us. I couldn’t breathe. Spencer and John were moaning in pain. Lilly was silent.
I began to cry my eyes out when I looked back and saw Spencer under circumstances I never wanted to see him in my life.
And then it went blank.
I woke up in my hospital room. Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep. I could hear my heart monitor. At least, I thought it was. I opened my eyes. It was pitch black.
I could hear everything, I could hear birds chirping outside my window, I could hear the heart monitor. But saw nothing. My first thought was that the lights were off. And then the doctor and some other woman walked into my room.
"Brooke, oh my god, you’re awake, oh my god…" I heard my mom cry. I felt her fall down to the side of my bed. The doctor stood beside her and I heard papers ruffling. She spoke of my condition and the car wreck. It was happening too fast. Concussion? Broken bones? Severe burns? Bruises?
And then mom took my hand. "Honey, open your eyes," she said. I had them closed since they walked in. So I obeyed and opened them.
I heard the doctor drop her clipboard. "Y-you’re…blind….Brooke…" mom gasped. "Isn’t she blind?"
The doctor then came closer to me. I could feel it. She gasped as well and agreed as she ran out of the room to get the other doctors.
I began to cry. It finally hit me what I had just been through.
"Lilly? John? S-S-Spencer?" I choked out.
Mom burst into harder tears and shook my hand. "Baby-I-I’m sorry…"
I’ll leave that situation there. Coming back later.
The love of my life-Gone. Best friend and her boyfriend-gone.
But that is where Joe, Nick, and Kevin came in. Literally, they did. They heard about the wreck after the concert. When I heard three sets of footsteps walk in about three hours later, I realized who they were by the sounds of their whispers.
And that’s where it all began.
