What Won’t Be Seen
Chapter 1
If I got a dollar for every time I put this CD on repeat, god….I’d be a millionaire. Who cares if some people thinks its annoying! I’m in love. In love with….yeah my boyfriend…but three other ‘boyfriends’ too. The Jonas Brothers. You know, Nick, Kevin and Joe? Yeah I’m sure you do. Who doesn’t these days?
Well I’ve been a fan since they first started out. When I was little, my parents took me to a Broadway show. I found it extremely boring…until I got to go backstage and meet the cast.
That’s when it happened. "Nicholas, there are some people who want to meet you," a lady, I knew to be this ‘Nicholas’ boy’s mother, said. She rushed the boy over to us. He only looked a year younger than me, if that. And then his family came. Two older brothers. Both a little older than me. I felt a little sensation when I saw the second oldest…but you know, I was only…what…nine? Yeah…
So I played a round of Bad Guy verses Indian with them before my parents took me out. They exchanged phone numbers and set up a few play dates every now and then.
So a few years passed, and I hadn’t seen them in months. That’s when I found out. They got a record deal.
From that moment on, I never really saw them. I went to a few of their first concerts, and they acknowledged me with smiles from the stage. That’s it. I went to the meet and greets and to them I was just another fan. So I figured they just weren’t in my life anymore.
Later on, they switched to Hollywood. And in a matter of WEEKS, they blew up. Now EVERYONE knew their name. Swarms of eight year olds, desperate thirteen year olds, and then that’s where I fall in. The category of ‘in love sixteen year olds.’
They were everywhere! Seriously, everywhere. And now, they’re on this tour with that Miley Cyrus girl. Don't get me started, okay?
And I’m going to one of those concerts. Actually, in two weeks. I’m waiting for the tickets. They say, ‘oh, your tickets will be here in two days.’
That. Is. Bull.
I’ve been waiting two WEEKS. But hey, I’m sure there’s a perfectly GOOD reason. I got these tickets off of Ticket Master. The ACTUAL site you get the ACTUAL tickets from. Not a scalper site, cause I got these FRONT ROW seats, for 67 bucks. Really, 56, plus the pointless 11 dollar handling fee. What the hell is a handling fee anyways?
I flipped over on my blue, brown and green polka dotted bed. The CD was over. That’s one more dollar.
I could hear the wind blowing outside of my window. It’s so…fierce. The sun isn’t even out today. I guess it won’t be very productive. I’ll stay here the whole day.
I pulled over my laptop and flipped it up. No one’s on AIM.
Great.
That was my last resort.
"BROOKE GET DOWN HERE! YOU’RE GONNA LOVE THIS!" mom called up the stairs. Wow…what is it this time, mom? Let me guess. Your favorite show is on rerun? You ate chocolate? What is it this time. I don’t know.
I grunted and got up from my bed. I was so comfortable. Ugh…
I opened the door and stepped out into the world. Well….the hallway outside of my room. The white carpet was freezing. "What’s up with that!?" I mumbled to myself. "I thought TILE was supposed to be freezing…"
"What’s that hun?" mom asked, holding a white envelope.
"Nothing…" I replied as I slumped down the stairs one step at a time. The fireplace was burning in our living room. Maybe THAT’S where I’ll be lazy all day.
Mom waved the envelope in front of my face like she was teasing a child. Well, she was. A sixteen year old child…
"I have something you wanttttt…" she laughed. I tilted my head.
"What?"
And then it hit me. My. TICKETS.
"OH MY GOD NO WAY!" I snatched them from her hands. "THANK YOU SO MUCH!" I pulled her into a tight hug and kissed her cheek. "You’re amazing, mom you are thank you so much."
"Hopefully they’ll notice you this time," she laughed. Yeah…my mom is great. She can be weird sometimes, but she’s just like a teenager. She’s amazing. And I love her to death no matter how much she gets on my nerves sometimes.
I opened them. Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus featuring Jonas Bros.
Could they just not spell out brothers? Lazy, lazy, LAZY.
Four tickets and the credit ticket which I just then tossed to the counter. They were mine. I had to call Lilly.
Yeah, Lilly has been my best friend forever. I picked up our home phone and dialed. "Lilly?"
"Yeah?"
"Guess what," I said in a dead tone.
She was silent for a moment, "What?"
Another dead silence before I screamed, "WE’RE GOING TO SEE THE JONAS BROTHERS!"
"AND HANNAH MONTANA?" she screamed back.
"Shut it…" I laughed. She laughed with me.
"So…who else is going? You only got four tickets, I’ll pay you back. I am forcing John to go is that okay? He’ll pay."
I laughed and propped myself up on the gray marble counter. "I don’t know if Spencer will go…" yeah, Spencer’s my boyfriend. My amazing boyfriend. He’s a year older than me…he’s 17, a junior. I love him to death and everyone tells me he loves me the same. My friends joke around and say he’s obsessed, but it’s sweet. It makes me feel good that…well…all the girls at our school want HIM. But he wants ME. And I can’t love him any more than I already do. Well…maybe I can…
"Brooke, come on, he loves you….he’ll go. And John’s going so he’ll definitely go."
I laughed, "What does John want to check out Miley or something?"
"Shut up," she said in a serious tone. "Nah, it’s okay. But yeah…call Spencer. I love you! I gotta go though. Mom broke her coffee machine. Well…it’s unplugged…she thinks its broken."
"AGAIN?" I sighed. "Okay…love you too…bye."
I took a deep breath and stared at my little brother. He was watching MTV…he always does. Never stops. He’s like, an MTV machine. But aren’t all 13year olds MTV machines?
I dialed Spencer’s number…cell of course…and his music came on. Him and his music…I mean, I love music, it’s my passion. But THIS stuff?
"Brooke?"
"Yeah hey…"
"I’ve been calling your cell forever babe…why didn’t you pick up…."
I smiled and looked up at my bedroom door. "Off and under my bed…"
"Oh I see…well what’s up?" I could hear the smile in his voice again.
"I got those Hannah Montana and JONAS Brothers tickets in the mail this morning…"
"And…." He said.
"Lilly’s brining John can you come PLEASE! Please, please, PLEASE!!!"
He laughed, "That’s stupid…Hannah Montana and those BROTHERS….pfft…"
"SPENCER!" I laughed. "Please! I’ll do anything."
"Anything?" he laughed.
"Yeah, anything." OH crap….did I say…ANYTHING? Crap…CRAP….
"I’ll do anything for you. Yeah alright…I’ll come. 67, right?"
"Yeah…if you want…" I didn’t know he’d really want to pay for his ticket.
"Of course. Okay sorry, I have to go to the game. I’m sorry I’ll call tonight, okay?"
"Thanks so much Spencer…"
"I love you," he said.
I smiled, "I love you too…bye."
He hung up.
There. Everything was put into place. The concert was on. But…would Joe really notice me? Nick? Kevin? Could we get backstage? Maybe….I don’t know. I’ll try. I can figure out something. But in the meantime I better go be lazy. Oh…hey! Little bro is off my favorite couch. Disney, anyone?
