Chapter 2
“Oh, thank you for joining me, Carina. I’m hoping for a big story tonight. Our magazine hasn’t had one in awhile. You’ll let me know about anything you learn tonight, right? Oh, it’s going to be a blast!” my mom cheered, as she parked her car and we walked over to the fancy restaurant where the party was being held.
“Sure,” I agreed, but I wasn’t even considering keeping my promise. I just wanted to make it through the night, if that was possible.
I spent a good part of the first few hours of the party making small talk with a variety of celebrities, making sure to take special note of who was with who, because the PGs would want to know. Some of the people I talked to were Justin Timberlake, who said I was also bringing sexy back, Cody Linley, Brie Larson, the Sprouse boys, the incredibly talented and gorgeous Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and the one and only Hilary Presley.
Hilary Presley was a pop star princess that went through boys like girls go through clothes- fast. Magazines were even having trouble keeping up with the many loves of Hilary. I didn’t exactly care for her and her ways, but I did care that she was going with the one and only stud muffin, Nick Jonas, and surprisingly, this relationship was lasting for a long time. I wasn’t dying to make out with him or anything, but I did find him likeable from a distance.
“Come on, Carina! Go dance!” my mom encouraged, and before I could disagree, I was pushed into the crowd of wild, dancing famous people. I was moved this way and that, and then I some how ended up beneath the disco ball, the eye of the hurricane. Strobe lights flashed and music blared from speakers that surrounded the room, the noise, the dancing, it all was overwhelming and confusing. I stood there looking for a way out. I glanced at my watch and it was midnight.
“Hey, you came!” a voice said, and before I could see who had said it, my lips were pressed against his in a cinematic kiss. When he finally pulled away, a look of shock covered his face, and then we saw a camera flash. We turned in the direction of it, and there stood my mom, holding a camera, looking excited. I turned to look at who had kissed me, and it was no one other than, Nicholas Jerry Jonas. Oh, crap.
More cameras flashed and Nick pulled me through the tangle of partiers and reporters, down a hallway, and into a telephone booth.
“I am so sorry!” Nick apologized.
“It’s okay, I guess,” I replied, not really knowing yet because my head was spinning with all that had occurred in the last few minutes.
“I’m Nick, and it’s not okay, because I just dug us both into a huge celeb gossip hole and I’m going with Hilary, and… and… I don’t know,” he blurted out, slumping down to the ground.
“I’m Carina, and I know about you and Hilary and basically everything because my mom works for a magazine and she was the first one to take a picture of us.”
“Well, do you think she’ll delete those pictures?”
“No, definitely no, she was hoping for a big story to emerge and she has one and nothing is going to get in her way. Plus, a million of other people have pictures of us, so it’s pretty much hopeless.”
“I agree, and what am I going to do when Hilary finds out?”
“Actually, I don’t think she really will care, because I saw her grinding Cody earlier and she seemed to have forgotten she had you. Sorry, about that.”
“Hey, I lost one girl and got another that I know nothing about. Isn’t life great?!” he exclaimed sarcastically.
“Yeah, and my mom is going to be quizzing me all night long. Fantastic!” I grumbled.
“Where do you live? My brothers and I will gladly give you a ride home, since we are technically now an ‘item’,” he offered.
“Sure, that would be great.”
Nick texted his brothers and within minutes, they were standing outside the phone booth.
“So this is the girl, huh?” Joe asked as Nick and I came out of the booth.
“Well, yeah, sort of, if that is how you want to put it,” Nick replied, sheepishly, suddenly embarrassed about it.
“I’m Carina, and we’ll tell you the story at a later time. Right now, I’d like to leave before anything else can happen.”
“Good point,” Kevin said, and a few minutes later, we were seated in a comfy limo.
“I better call my mom and let her know where I am,” I stated, dialing her cell number quickly.
“Hello? Carina! Give me the details!” she exclaimed over the phone, so loud, all three of the boys looked at me.
“Mom, I’ve got a ride home, just wanted to let you know.”
“Are you riding with the Jonas Brothers?! Hi, boys!” she yelled, and they continued to stare.
“I gotta go, bye,” I cut her off and flipped the phone shut, before she could ask anything more.
“Wow,” was all Kevin said.
“So what are we going to do about us?” Nick asked, turning to look at me.
“We need to talk somewhere private for awhile, because this isn’t going to be easy to get out of.”
“I know. How about you come over to my house tomorrow and figure things out, because that is about as private as it’s going to get.”
“Okay, I’ll get my brother to drive me over so it won’t look suspicious. Where do you live?” I asked, and he rattled off his address. The limo stopped outside of my house, we said good bye, and I escaped into the dark quiet of my house, where my dad was asleep in the recliner and my brother was no where to be seen. Mom wasn’t home, yet. Good.
