PROLOGUE
"Come on Nick," Joe coaxed. "You know you'll probly never see her again anyways. And we can make fun of it afterwards like we did with Kev's date." A fan magazine had asked Nick to participate in a contest where the winner would get to go on a date with him.
"Exactly!" was Nick's response. "I don't want to hurt a girl like that!"
"You're being to sensitive," Kevin walked in the room. "And I'm the one with that reputation. I even did that contest!" he pointed out. "You wouldn't be hurting her, you would be making her life so good that if she died the next day she wouldn't care."
"Shut up," Nick snapped.
"He's got a point though," Joe told him. "And if you really don't want to dissappoint a girl then you'd do the contest so she could meet you in person. You know only realy fans sign up for those things."
NICK'S POINT
"Fine! I'll do the stupid contest!" I yelled at Kevin and Joe. My ears were tired of listening to their lectures and trying to convince me. God! This is my life. What if I don't want to go on a blind date with some crazed fan!?!
"Hello?" says a voice on the other end of the phone.
"Hi. This is Nick Jonas. I'm calling to let you know that I am willing to do the contest for JONAS Magazine."
"Great! We'll give you a call as soon as we have a winner."
"Sure."
"Have a nice day!"
WHATEVER! The point is I DON'T want to do this stupid contest. And I'm not being selfish. I just don't want some girl to get her hopes too high. As I walk back to my room, Kevin and Joe come up on either side of me.
"So watcha gonna wear?" Joe teases.
"Maybe straighten your hair," Kevin laughs.
"SHUT UP! I am so sick of you guys! Just because you both think it's funny to go on blind dates with crazed fans and then make fun of them afterwards does NOT mean I do too!" Can't they ever just leave me alone and let me make my own decisions?
JOE'S POINT
"Ppfhahahahahaha!" Kevin high fives me. "HA! Nick is such a whiner. It's just one litle blind date with some random star struck teen girl!"
"I think he's taking it a LITTLE too seriously," I agreed.
"A LITTLE!?!"
We had just talked Nick int agreeing to be part of a contest where the winner would get to go on a date with him. I could tell he really didn't want to do it. I know he'll get over it though and we'll be laughing about it later.
"Okay. Maybe a LOT," I told Kevin. "But cut him some slack. This is his first time going solo. He doesn't know what it's like."
"You still gotta admit it's funny."
"Never said it wasn't."
"The date's only a week away. Let's go help him out. He's gonna need all the help he can possibly get!"
KEVIN'S POINT
Nick glares at us as we walk into our room. We all share a big room about the size of an average living room.
"Look, we're not going to apologize cuz we're not sorry, but we WILL offer to help you." Joe tries to explain. I swear he can be worse than Frankie sometimes.
"Then you might as well leave cuz I don't want your help."
"Don't be a brat," I snapped at him. "We're just trying to help and give you and give you some tips." Nick didn't respond.
"Good. The less you talk the more you learn. First, what you wear is the most important," Joe begins.
"It sets the whole mood. Fancy. Casual. Romantic. I don't care. What you wear tells the girl how you feel." I add.
"Second,"Joe continues. "pick out your outfit two days before at least because the flowers you buy the girl MUST match your outfit."
"Joe's got a point." I say. "Also, make restraunt reservations at least a week before to assure you will have seating."
"Which means that you need to decide today," Joe points out.
"Lastly, the way you act has an affect on the girl for the rest of her life. If you act like a gentleman, she will always hold a place and a story for you. Act like you don't care and she will remember you as the worst date of her life."
"Oh...and you have to kiss her."
Nick’s Point
“WHAT!?!?!” I scream. “No one said ANYTHING about having to KISS the girl!”
“Calm DOWN!” Joe yells back. “It’s sorta an unspoken rule.”
“Sorry little bro,” Kevin tries to calm me down. “Just relax. It’s not that big of a deal.”
RELAX!?! NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL!?! Not that big of a deal would be kissing Miley who by the way SUCKS at kissing.
“What if I don’t WANT to kiss a girl I don’t even know!?!” I scream even louder.
“CHILL, Nick! That’s why you get to know her before you kiss her.” Kevin once again tries (but fails) to comfort me. How could they do this to me?
Joe’s Point
Nick is such a whiner! I mean seriously, why does kissing a girl have to be such a big deal?
Kevin’s Point
HA! Nick is totally FREAKED!
Nick’s Point
I just got a call from the manager of the contest.
“SOOO?” Joe asks.
“So what?” is my response.
“Tell us who it is!” Kevin walks in to our bedroom.
“Fine. Her name is Maddi. She lives in Nebraska.”
“Ooohh!” Joe teases. “A hottie from Nebraska!” I really wish he would shut up. I don’t even want to meet her. Much less go on a DATE with her!
“Now the deets,” Kevin continues.
“Where are you going, what are you wearing and what color are the flowers?” Joe joins in.
“I DON’T KNOW!”
“Let’s start with the basics.” Kevin tries to help. “Fancy or casual?”
“Casual.”
“Black or blue?”
“Blue.”
“White or purple?”
“Purple.”
“Okay. So it’s gonna be casual, you’ll wear blue skinny jeans and a white collared polo and you’ll bring her 6 purple roses specially ordered.”
“One last thing.” Joe reminds us.
“What?”
“When are you gonna kiss her?”
AHHHHHH! WHY do they have to keep bringing up that little part?! It’s bad enough having to hear about it. Much less PLAN IT OUT! Seriously
Kevin's Point
Nick FINALLY decided on the date. It's about time too. Only 3 days to go. Dang. Even I had more time than this. Still. Serves him right. And he'll get over it. Joe and I did our best. He's gonna wear his white polo, blue skinny jeans, bring her 6 purple roses and I'll drive them to KJ'S.
Joe's Point
"So? Have you decided yet?" I pressed Nick.
"Decide what?" he answered obviously.
"I know you're not that stupid. When are you gonna kiss her?"
"Stop reminding me."
"It's gonna happen whether you want it to or not, so you might as well decide."
"I think I'll decide this one on my own then."
"Okay then." I swear he can be such a pain in the ass sometimes.
Nick's Point
Why does everyone have to keep reminding me about tomorrow's date? It's disastrous enough already. First, I don't even want to go, Second, I don't want to hurt her. Last, I DONT WANT TO KISS HER. Anyway, you have to admit that kissing IS a big step in a relationship. And to kiss a girl and then leave her is just about the worst thing you can do.
The Date
"Maddi Nelson?"
"Yep. And of course you're Nick Jonas," Maddi said, graciously taking the flowers.
"Look," Nick began, "I don't want to ruin our whole night, but it will ruin mine if I don't tell you this. I'm supposed to kiss you tonight, but to me that is a big step in a relationship. I don't want to hurt you by kissing you and then leavin you."
"Yeah, the contest manager told me. I wanted to back down but I didn't because I really wanted to meet you. Your music is awesome and you seem like a really sensitive guy." Maddi explained.
"Thanks. And you seem like a really awesome girl. So shall we start the date?"
"Let's," she replied.
"Where do you want to begin?"
"I don't care. Do you wanna eat first and then hang out?"
"Cool with me."
As the night goes on, Nick and Maddi get to know eachother like brother and sister. After eating they take a walk in Memorial Park and lay down side by side in the grass.
"Do you believe in falling in love?" Nick asks Maddi.
"It depends."
"I didn't."
"Until when?"
"Until tonight."
The Date Part Two
Nick rolls to face Maddi. Feeling his gaze he does the same.
"Tonight, I fell in love with you. You didn't care that I didn't want to kiss you. You understood that I didn't want to hurt you. And there's something about you that I just can't explain," Nick told Maddi.
"Tonight I fell in love with you. You were honest right from the start. You didn't want to hurt me and I can see how you feel in your eyes," Maddi responded. Nick leaned in for the kiss. Their lips touched. Thy lay there on the grass kissing passionately.
