Chapter 4
Hollywood here we come.
-Jonas Brothers
[Hollywood]
Dinner conversation was filled with stories. Kevin was in the middle of telling my mom about one of their concerts where the fans broke into their dressing room, when I felt someone’s eyes on me. I looked up at Joe and saw him staring back at me.
I blushed and then resumed poking at my food.
Once everyone was about done eating Mr. Jonas cleared his throat causing everyone to look up at him. “Okay kids, we have a surprise for you guys,” He looked over at my mom, and then to Denise. “So we are going to spend another week up here at the cabin, and then…” He stopped for dramatic effect then continued saying, “Haley is going to come back to LA and live with us,”
“What!” Nick said. “That’s awesome!”
“Seriously?” Kevin said with a smile on his face.
Me and Joe were silent though. Joe was too busy smiling. But my mouth was wide open. Life hadn’t been the same since the boys moved away. But now I was going to move to LA with them.
“Wow,” I finally got out.
“So are you excited?” my mom asked.
“More than you could ever know!” I said.
Me and Kevin started to clear the table when Frankie turned to me and asked, “Haley will you take me out on the jet ski?”
“If it’s okay with you’re mom,” I said looking up at Denise.
Denise smiled and said, “Be sure to wear your life jacket,”
Frankie was up and out of his seat in a second. I put the dishes I was holding in the sink. Me and Frankie walked down to the water and got onto the Yamaha.
“Are you ready?” I asked. He bobbed his head up and down and then I took of at 40 MPH onto the lake.
When we got back, we were both soaked. I hadn’t taken the time to change into my bathing suit so my Bermuda shorts and tank top were drenched.
Joe was sitting on the dock waiting for us.
“Missed me?” I asked as I tied up the jet ski.
“Terribly,” Joe said with a smile. “So I was thinking a fire in the pit tonight. Just like old times,”
“Sounds great. Let me go change into something… dry, and then I’ll be back to help you set it up,” I said and then got up and jogged up to the cabin.
When I came back out Kevin and Joe were bringing wood over to the fire pit. Nick brought out a stack of newspapers. I was wearing a pair of skinny jeans and an FOX thermal.
“Do you guys need help?” I asked as the three boys tried to make a teepee out of the wood.
“No,” Joe said. “We are men. And men can light fire, and put up tents and do other manly things,”
“Okay,” I said. “If you say so,”
Twenty minutes later all the boys had done was light a couple of pieces of newspaper on fire. “Can I help now?” I asked.
“Fine,” Kevin grunted.
I got up and walked away. Less than a minute later I reappeared with a tank of gasoline. I put a splash of it onto the pile of logs then threw a match onto the wood. A giant flame appeared that slowly faded into a comfortable fire.
“Cheater” Joe said under his breath.
