Here's a new chapter! It gets a little more interesting. Enjoy! :D
Chapter 2
I wanted to sleep on the plane so bad since I didn’t much of it the night before. I blamed the huge amount of excitement I had for that. I once again pulled out my iPod and set it on shuffle. I didn’t feel like changing it every four minutes to a different particular song. I leaned back in my seat and prepared myself for take off. It always made me nervous when taking off or coming in. I remember the last time I came to New York City years ago it looked like the plane was going to crash into a big body of water. Gladly, that was right next to the runway but it still scared the life out of me.
I couldn’t help but think of the young boy I met in the airport. Frankie... Why did that name and face seem so familiar? I wondered about this until my train of thought was broken by the flight attendant asking me if I wanted anything. I nodded and asked for water and peanuts. Those little sugary toasted things are potentially addicting.
I drank about half of my water bottle and munched down on my peanuts. Then there was an announcement that there was a movie coming on soon. I decided to take advantage of that and save myself from my random thoughts. I put the weird looking airplane headphones on and quickly learned that it was The Family Stone. A feel good movie, I was down for it. My mom and I had seen it for what felt like a million times. She had developed a bit of a crush on Dermot Mulroney from this film and from when he was in The Wedding Date. It was okay though since I never minded watching them. I watched the movie for about half an hour and thankfully found a way to drift into a nap.

“We will be arriving into the airport in approximately five minutes. The weather outside is bright and sunny with a temperature within the mid- seventies. Please assure that your seat belt is secured correctly as we land and thank you for flying with us today,” said the captain over the intercom.
I opened one eye forgetting where I was for a few seconds and then remembered and scooted up out of the slouch position I was in. Looking around I noticed I wasn’t the only one that was able to catch some sleep. I glanced out the window and was blinded by the sun. The captain wasn’t kidding when he said it was bright and sunny. I scanned the view from my window and was in awe of how complex the building structures were across the water from me. Nope, New York City hadn’t changed a bit since I last saw it. Good ol’ New York, New York.
Walking off the plane I pulled my phone out of the side pocket of my purse and pressed the red button to turn it on. After a few seconds it showed I had a missed call. It was from Nicole. She had left me a voice message saying that they were stuck in traffic and had no idea when they were going to arrive to pick me up. Great, that’s all I needed, to be stuck in the airport waiting for who knows how long. I was here in New York City and all I could see so far was the inside of one of its airports. And that was probably all I was going to see for a while. Just grand...
When I came through the gate I almost leaped for joy as I saw a glowing green and white Starbucks sign off to my left. I rushed over and got in line to get some coffee. The aroma was just so sweet it made crave it even more. I ordered my usual and quickly grabbed a small table in the corner. Ah, caramel macchiato, my favorite. Somehow the song Java Jive by Manhattan Transfer came to mind. (Check out the song, it’s catchy! :D)
For the middle of the day there weren’t as many people in airport as I expected. It was kind of, empty, which was odd. Right as I made that observation, there was a wave of people with flashing cameras grouped around what looked like six people going by. I wasn’t able to make out their faces or who they were but they must have been close to celebrity status to get that kind of attention. People around me noticed it also and started whispering amongst themselves. I was tempted to ask if anyone knew who it was but I blew it off and went on with my business.
I slowly sipped my coffee trying to make it last longer waiting for Nicole. Ten minutes turned into twenty and thirty turned into an hour. I was growing impatient of sitting in one place for so long so I got up and headed for the bathroom before going to look for some decent books or magazines. I swung the door open and saw someone standing behind it. She was wearing dark clothing and was also decked out in a hat and sunglasses that hid her face. After coming back to the sinks I watched that same girl beside me not letting her notice that I was. She didn’t really notice I was there until I came out. Soon I figured out it wasn’t a she, it was a he.
I didn’t want to say anything to make it awkward. Needless to say, the person next to me did.
“Um, I hate to bug you about this but, aren’t you in the wrong bathroom?” he said messing with the front pieces of his hair and removing his sunglasses and smiling. It was obvious he was about to laugh at my supposed mistake. I still couldn’t see his face. I looked at him confused and walked over to the door shaking my head.
“Nope, I think I’m right but I don’t know about you,” I said pointing to the sign that indicated it was the women’s bathroom. I was holding in my laughter as the guy’s face sunk and he dashed out the door. Talk about your random event of the day.
“Wait! You left your-,” I shouted after him. I stopped myself learning it was useless seeing as the guy was long gone. Walking back to the counter and I shut off the water of the sink the guy was using before disappearing and picked up the white sunglasses off the counter he left. They were pretty nice sunglasses seeing the brand of them. I’m sure I wouldn’t want them stolen if I was him so I sought out to find anyone or any place that could help me find the owner.
A few minutes later I tried to find any sort of lost and found in the airport. I walked up and down, through and around the airport but the more I did this, the more confused I got. I was also trying to see if I could recognize anyone that resembled the guy in the bathroom, which was hopeless. I soon figured there wasn’t any sort of lost and found place and came back to a magazine stand with a bookstore close by. What else was I supposed to do now?
I flipped through some magazines soon growing bored of them and walked toward the bookstore. I liked to read. I used to not like it but the more I matured the more my respect for books grew. I slipped a book off of a stand and flipped it over to read the back. As I did that my phone rang, it was Nicole. Gah, it was about time after waiting for an hour and a half! What an impatient person I was.
Just to let everyone know, I won't be able to post again until next weekend. I'm going on a band trip and won't be back until Wednesday evening so I imagine the earliest I can post again is Friday afternoon. Sorry for the inconvience! Thanks! I hope everyone liked the chapter! :D
