Okay! Chapter one of
If We All Took Time to Breathe
“Oh MAN!” Bre groaned, pulling the pillow over her head. “This seriously SUCKS!”
I nodded from my spot on the bed next to her. I wanted to scream into a pillow, but the boys were in the room next door and it might freak them out.
When we last left off, this promised to be a really fun summer reunion. We were supposed to have a full three months with the boys before they went back on tour. But now, plans changed.
The boys had just gotten a call from their agent this morning, and the tour was starting up in just a few days, rather than a few months. He was vague on why, but it didn’t change the fact that they were leaving. Again.
I know that it’s different this time, but it still SUCKS. It was only the second week of May, and they had to leave in two days! We were all excited because we had a really early break for college, and we’d have a lot more time together. But noooo…
Delaney balled up a piece of paper and tried to make a basket in the trash can with a sigh. “Ugh.”
We had been as cheerful and supportive as we could be in front of the guys. After all, going on tour was big, and they seemed excited. I don’t think we fooled them for a second, but we saved our griping for when they went back to their room to get ready for dinner.
I glanced around the room. “Soo…do you guys really wanna stay here for the rest of the summer?”
“Heck no!” Bre groaned. “It’d suck without the guys!” she sighed. “I guess we head home once they leave.”
Delaney tried to be optimistic. “We can still salvage this summer! Maybe a roadtrip!” she brightened. “We can go to one of their concerts, if they have one near us!”
Bre and I nodded, somewhat happier, but not really.
My phone suddenly went off in my pocket and I jumped, startled. I forgot I had put it on vibrate. Bre laughed at the look on my face as I flipped it open.
“Hello?”
“Hi sweetie!”
“Mrs. Jonas!” I smiled into the receiver. “How are you?”
“I’m great, honey, thanks.” She paused. “So, I’m assuming you heard about the boy’s earlier departure date…”
I frowned, even thought she couldn’t see it. “Yes.”
She sighed. “I’m sorry your summer had to be cut short.”
“No, it’s alright. We’re happy for them!”
There was a touch of amusement in her voice. “Well, you see, I just worry about Frankie and Nick. They are missing out on school, and I can only do so much home-schooling.”
I was confused. She continued. “That’s why, I was thinking it’d be handy to have someone on the bus with us to teach them an hour or so a day…someone who is an education major, and has a free summer…”
My eyes widened significantly and I could hardly dare to believe what she was implying. “Mrs…Jonas…”
“How would you and Breanna and Delaney like to come with us on tour?”
My jaw dropped and I was literally speechless for a good minute. Bre nudged me, a confused look on her face. I regained my composure and had to keep myself from screaming. “Mrs. Jonas, you have seriously made my LIFE! Thank you! We would love to!”
“Alrighty, Faith. I’ll let you break the news to the boys,” she laughed.
“Thank you again! Bye!”
I hung up and met the perplexed faces of Bre and Delaney.
“Girls…” I said slowly, a broad grin spreading over my face. “…We’re going on tour this summer.”
And, taking in their shocked expressions as the news sunk in, I leapt off the bed and ran next door. I banged open the door.
Joe, Nick, and Kevin looked up, startled. Kevin was pulling out some half-packed suitcases. Joe was flipping through the channels on the TV with Nick sitting on the bed next to him. I took a running jump onto the bed, practically tackling Joe, to his complete shock.
“Faith, wha--?”
“I LOVE YOUR MOTHER!”
Kevin let the suitcase fall to the ground with a thunk. “…Um, what?”
I looked up from my position half on top of Joe with a huge grin on my face. Nick was looking a little scared.
“Your mom just hired a new tutor for Nick and Frankie while on tour…” I smiled impishly.
Joe didn’t get it. “…Uh, that’s great…?”
Rolling my eyes, I pulled myself off the bed and walked to the window. “Now, who do you know who is studying to be a teacher, whose free time this summer just opened up big time?”
There was silence behind me, then a great collective “OHHHH!”
Joe jumped off the bed and hugged me. “That’s great!”
“You’re coming on tour with us?” Nick asked excitedly, leaning forward.
“Yup! And Bre and Delaney!” I said happily.
“That’s fantastic!” Kevin cheered, kicking the suitcase back under the bed.
Hope ya'll liked it. It's pretty long cause I'm not gonna be back on till around 2 or so, and then I've gotta write some more. This story is going to have a bit more drama in it, I'm kinda excited!!
