Ch 1
I watched him from the back of the room. His golden brown eyes, the perfect jaw line, amazing light brown hair that hung over his eyes, plus a body to die for. He was absolutely gorgeous; everyone wanted to be with him. But I didn’t want to be near him... even though he was my brother. My one and only older brother Liam. Sure, he was gorgeous, a famous model, every girl wanted him, but they didn’t know him…not like I did. He had an ego the size of earth; he was obnoxious, stubborn and hated anyone that could take his spotlight. He always had to be in control, I was getting annoyed just watching him, thinking about our fight yesterday…right before we’d come to New York for his shoot.
I wasn’t supposed to be here; nope…I didn’t want to be here, not with him. But both of my parents had to go away on business trips, dad to France, mum to Canada. They were the type of parents that thought giving you lavish gifts and money replaced the love that they weren’t there to give. But I didn’t see that love every time they bought me a tiffany bracelet, and then left to another country. Liam got angry that I had to come with him; I got angry that I was forced to join him in New York, but in the end we both had to leave L.A. and get on that plane. I watched him smile at the cameras, sure he would smile at the photo shoot…but he wouldn’t smile at me.
I couldn’t stay in the same room as him, I needed to get out.
I escaped to the wardrobe and makeup room where my brother’s stylist Leanne was.
“Hey Lee, how’s it going?” I asked giving her a tired smile.
“Hey beautiful! Its going pretty well I’d say.” She said with a grin fixing up the pile of clothes at the side of the room. I liked Leanne, she was different, had her own style and a bright personality, plus she was just as crazy about my brother as me.
“Is he throwing a fit out there yet?” She asked with a raised eyebrow. I laughed; she knew how Liam acted too well.
“Not yet, but I’m not going to stick around to find out. I might explore the building a bit.” I said, taking a seat in one of the make up chairs, twirling it around to face her. Her short red hair bounced as she lifted all the clothes onto a table.
“Cool, but first I have a pressie for you!” She said smiling. I watched her as she disappeared around a stack of clothes before producing a bag.
“What’s this?” I asked as she came over to me with the large bag.
“Well, I was at a fashion show the other day, backstage of course, and I was able to snag some unreleased clothes, so this is for you!” She said with a smile, and held the bag out in front of me, bouncing it up and down in excitement.
“No Way!” I exclaimed as I grabbed the bag and opened it. Inside was a gorgeous bright yellow trench coat. I jumped up and pulled it out hugging it to my chest, before hugging Leanne.
“Thanks so much! It’s gorgeous.” I said as I pulled it over my white knit top and dark blue skinny jeans.
“Hey, as soon as I saw it I thought of you.” She said. “Now just a little blush and lip gloss and you should be out there instead of you brother.” I gave a small smile. I didn’t like it when people tried to tell me how beautiful I was, or that I should be out there instead. I just stood silently as Lee rushed around and quickly applied some blush and lip gloss on me. I laughed as she jumped back.
“Ta-da! You are complete, and free to explore.” She said with a nod. I grabbed my book from the makeup table and gave a wave before walking out into the hallway.
The only good thing about this shoot was the location, aside from it being set in gorgeous New York we were shooting in an amazing old building. I walked down the hall and took the stairs up to the next level. I walked around quietly, apparently there were two other shoots going on in the building. I enjoyed the silence and the crisp cool temperature of winter in New York, which made the building a bit chilly…but I just walked on and opened doors every now and then and peered in. I heard some noise at the end of the hallway on the second floor and a large oak door; I pressed my ear to the door to listen in.
“Alright, boys finish getting ready…we’ll start shooting soon.” I heard a voice say on the other side of the thick door. Probably another photo shoot, hopefully with models nicer than my brother. I took a step back and turned around facing another large oak door on the opposite side of the wall. This time when I pressed my ear to the side there was silence. Satisfied that there was no one in there, I pushed the heavy door open and curiously stepped inside.
It was a large brightly lit room, with wooden floorboards and it was completely empty. It seemed like a dance studio or something, with mirrors on one side of the wall, windows on the other. I didn’t look at the mirrors but walked straight over to the other side of the room, where the large windows were and a long wooden bench was next to it. Breathing in I sat down at the corner of the room, leaning against the wall and stretching my legs out on the bench at the window. I looked out of the frosted window into the bustling streets below. But I stopped watching the people as I stared at my reflection in the cold glass. I stared into my eyes…it was one part of me that I thought was the worst…my eyes, they were strange. I’d heard people say that I am beautiful, exquisite…something different. I’d also heard far too often how I wasn’t anything special and how my looks were something to hide, and not be proud of. Of course those comments came from my brother, I knew I shouldn’t take it to heart, but hearing it so often left me thinking and wondering if he was right. It made me feel small, crushed and empty. I sighed, shook the thoughts away and opened my novel, Twilight, and continued reading it. Reading and writing was something that I loved doing, it let me escape from reality and delve deep into another world. I settled down and let my mind wander into the lives of vampires and werewolves.
*Damien POV*
“Hey guys, I’ll be ready in about ten minutes…I just need to test the light, something isn’t right with the camera.” I peered through the lens of the camera, people were rushing everywhere making sure things were perfect and in place. “Uh, I’m gonna go out in the hall and see if it makes any difference, hopefully its nothing.” I said to everyone. They all nodded and went back to work, the great thing about being the photographer was that everyone listened to you, and took you’re word for it. Fortunately today I wasn’t shooting some spoilt model or diva, they guys were pretty cool and they had a wicked sense of style. I stepped out into the hall and looked around, it was poorly lit, I couldn’t test anything in here. I stared around wondering where I could gain some potential light without having to walk too far. The answer was right in front of me, a large oak door similar to the one I had just exited from was right across the hall, natural light escaped from the crack underneath the door. I walked over to the door and tugged it open before quietly wandering inside.
I walked in at first oblivious that there was anyone else inside, but as my gaze scanned the room I noticed her. It was hard not to…she was stunning. I lifted my camera up and began to shoot her…I couldn’t help it. She was concentrating so hard on her novel that she didn’t even notice me clicking away and staring at her, now that is being focused. Aside from the light shining in from the windows across her light skin, I tried to capture her natural beauty, which wasn’t difficult. She didn’t look that old, around 15, but she was amazing. She was sitting against the wall, her legs stretched out in front of her, long black hair waved down her back and her side fringe swept over the right side of her perfectly structured face. Her nose, lips, cheeks…everything looked angelic and perfect…she peered up at the window, and stared at her reflection and then looked down upset, but the shock came when she finally noticed me and looked up.
It was her eyes.
They were beautiful, almond shaped, with long, thick black lashes, but it was the colour that amazed me. They were blue. Not the regular pretty, dark and deep blue that every model out there had. Her eyes were the lightest blue possible, like ice but lighter. The contrast amazed me. She just stared at me as I took one last picture.
“I am so sorry…” I said walking closer to her. She gave a small smile and shrugged.
“Its ok...you’re a photographer I’m gathering.” She said her voice sweet and a bit quiet. I watched as she put her book down, swung her legs around and looked at me. I ran my fingers through my hair and smiled.
“Yeh, I am…and you’re a model I’m guessing?” I said and watched as she laughed and shook her head.
“Nope not me…my brother.” She said and smiled. I was shocked, she’s not a model…well she should be.
“Really? Wow…I know this may be a little weird, but I think the photos I just took of you will look great, and might actually be some of my best work…so could I use them in my portfolio?” I said, quickly watching as she just smiled at my awkwardness.
“Sure…do what ever you want with them.” She said and she tapped her fingers against the wooden bench.
“Thanks, and again, sorry for being so intrusive.”
“It’s fine.” She replied and she looked around the room.
“So, what’s your—” I began.
“Damien! Where are you they’re ready!” I heard Jean calling me.
“Uh, I have to go. Nice meeting you.” I said, raising my hand in goodbye.
“You too.” She said politely and watched me as I gave a smile and ran back to the shoot.
