Ch 8
2 days later…
*Damien’s POV*
“Hmm…maybe, I’m not sure…hmm…” Celine Ciroux the latest ‘it’ fashion designer had been saying the same thing for over half an hour. I was in a meeting with her, trying to convince her to use me as her photographer for her spring shoot, but so far I was having a hard time convincing her. She clicked through the, what I thought were excellent, photographs.
“Look over the previous files.” I said, clicking back on the large plasma. She took her glasses off and stared at me.
“Do you not have anything else? Something different…your shots are so…common.” Her English was good, but with the hint of a French accent. I glanced at my glass of water that I desperately wanted to throw at her, but I restrained myself and breathed deeply.
“Let me see if any of these other shoots are more to your taste.” I said bitterly, removing another disk from its case. She had better like these, otherwise I am done and good luck to whoever has to shoot for her. I gritted my teeth and slid the disk into the drive; she patiently waited while sipping a mug of steaming coffee.
Placing the empty disks in beside her, I sat down waiting to see her reaction as she clicked through.
Halfway through the usual ‘Hmm…maybes” She stopped and stared at a particular shot, examining it closely, before a smile drew on her face.
“This…is brilliant. It’s exactly what I want, what I’m looking for. The lighting, the feel…everything.” She clicked forward with delight. “Yes! Yes, this is perfect!” She exclaimed. I took my eyes of the cream wall I had been staring at and looked at the screen to see what she was talking about. They were the shots of that girl that I had found in the building in New York, while I was shooting the Jonas Brothers.
“Yeah, I like those…I needed something with natural light.” I replied, looking over the spectacular shot.
“This is what I want, but there’s something else… who is she?” She asked, staring closer at the beautiful girl. I scratched my head thinking…but I had no idea.
“I’m not exactly sure…I only met her that day, uh…why do you want to know?” I asked her. She looked up at me seriously and laid her glasses on the table.
“I want that girl to be the face of my spring collection. She is perfect, she has the right look, the contrast between her eyes and hair…and she’s even wearing my trench coat…which, by the way, I am wondering how she got a hold of because it’s been seen only once at a fashion show. I’ll hire you if you can get me that girl.” She stood up and handed me her business card with details for a following meeting scribbled on the back. “Set up a meeting here with her in 3 days, if you can’t by then…well, I’m sorry.” She collected her things, shook my hand and left, her nervous assistant scurrying after her.
How am I supposed to find this girl? I sank back into the chair hopelessly…there goes a great career opportunity. I thought back to that day in New York…hadn’t Nick Jonas wanted those photos…maybe he knew who she is? Well it’s worth a try.
*Alexis POV*
“Nick, you’ve said this same point as least seven times!” I told him laughing as I drew a line through his sentence on the notebook.
“See, this is why I needed you to look over it.” Nick said from his bed, where he was softly strumming one of his many guitars. I shook my head as I turned back to his speech that he was making for the ‘Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’ (JDRF) and started rewording things and fixing his spelling mistakes. His black curly handwriting was scribbled across the paper; I stared at it, trying to understand the untidy scrawl.
“You could have typed this up.” I said to him, as I added in a sentence. I felt a pillow come in contact with the back of my head and I swung around in the chair to find Nick laughing on his bed. “That is also not nice.” I told him pointing the pen at him and trying hard not to smile as I threw the pillow back.
“Hey, stop complaining…it’s a fine speech!” He said, coming over to me. “And-
“I can hardly read it.” I informed to him, holding up the paper and giving him a look.
“Well not all of us can have perfect handwriting.” He teased as he phone rang. I smiled as he rushed to the source of noise.
“Hello?” He said, as I watched him talk on the phone, Nick suddenly looked up at me in surprise, and listened harder to the phone.
“Yeah, I know her, her name’s Alexis Daniels. You want her number….uh…you can talk to her now if you want…cos she’s right here.” I raised an eyebrow at the sound of my name and mouthed ‘who is it?’ but Nick walked over with his cell phone, and covered the mouth piece.
“It’s Damien, do you remember him…he took your picture like a month ago in New York?” I nodded, remembering the friendly photographer. “Well, he wants to talk to you....here.” I took the phone from Nick surprised.
“What, why? Nick, I’m not good with phone calls to people I hardly know.” I whispered to him.
“You’ll be fine.” Nick told me, giving a reassuring smile. I swallowed and held the phone up to my ear.
“Hello?” I said quietly.
“Hi Alexis, its Damien here. Sorry to be so random, but I was in a meeting with Celine Ciroux today, uh do you know her?” Damien asked, as I tried to follow the conversation.
“Um, yep…she’s a pretty big fashion designer now.” I replied as Nick sat me down on his bed and listened.
“Yes, well she saw the shots of you in New York and told me I could only be the photographer for her spring collection if you came for a meeting in two days.” I looked at Nick who smiled at me excited.
“But why…” I started; Nick leant over so he could hear Damien more clearly.
“She wants you to be the face of her new collection.” Nick and I sat up in shock and stared at each other, I felt the phone slip through my fingers and into Nick’s outstretched hand, that guy has amazing reflexes. Nick held the phone up to his ear as he smiled.
“Damien, yeh it’s Nick.” Nick stared at me. “Yeh…she’s kinda in shock, but tell me about the meeting and we’ll be there.” I breathed in and tried to relax. Celine Ciroux wanted ME for her spring collection, I couldn’t believe it, me…she wanted me!
I watched Nick get a pen and piece of paper from his desk to write down the details.
“2.30, two days time… 27 Maxwell Avenue, room 4….New York?!” I listened to Nick repeat after Damien.
“New YORK?” I said loudly, while Nick confirmed the details and hung up. “The meeting’s in New York? How am I supposed to get to New York in 2 day’s? Without my parents knowing, cos right now I cannot deal with them.” I tried to breathe and think this out logically, but all I could do was freak out, how could this be happening to me. I try to stay out of the limelight, I’m never the centre of attention…yet here I was seeing if I can attend a meeting that would ultimately change all of that. I looked up at Nick, into those brown eyes that always made me calm and comfortable. “Nick, This is crazy, maybe I shouldn’t go.” Nick sat next to me, phone tossed to the side.
“Hey, no way are you backing down. This could be great…plus Damien’s counting on you. I’ll just book the tickets, I’m sure my dad would love to come, everything will work out. I promise.” Nick said, squeezing my hand, I smiled at him and I knew I could believe him. “Plus, I’ll be there the entire time. It’ll be fine, you’ll see.”
“Thanks Nick.” I said, turning and giving him a hug, feeling my heart flutter in my chest.
“Hey, anything for my best friend.” He said softly, causing me to pull back in astonishment. “You didn’t think you were here for some other reason right?” He said, giving me a nudge. I smiled into his chest and just hugged him tighter. Best friend? Nothing at that moment sounded better.
