Ch 6
I felt the dream slip away from my mind, as I began to wake up. I slowly opened my eyes, comfortably sinking into the large pillows. If I remembered correctly Nick had brought me up last night. I might have blushed except that it was too great a moment to be humiliating. He was so strong, yet he held me so gently, behind the superstar image he really was a sweet guy. I looked to my right in the dim room and saw an clock flash 10.03 brightly in red. Rubbing my eyes I pulled the warm covers back and slipped out of bed landing on the soft cream carpet. Smoothing out the creases in Nick’s clothes I picked up my purse and walked into the hall over to the bathroom door. I hid a quick yawn before pushing the handle down and opening it.
My mouth suddenly snapped open, as a shirtless Nick turned around hearing the door open.
“Oh my…I am SO sorry!” I said quickly, now feeling my cheeks burn bright. Nick rushed to pull a shirt over his toned body, while my eyes tried to focus on the floor, but already my head was feeling dizzy.
“Hey, it’s no problem.” Nick laughed to himself, his wet curls sending droplets onto his green t-shirt.
“I should have knocked. I am so stupid! I can’t believe I just did that!” I mumbled, finding it hard to bring myself to look at him.
“Don’t worry its nothing. Did you sleep well?” He asked trying to shift the conversation. I nodded numbly as I backed up to the door.
“I’ll come back, you should-I..how-right.” I said not even understanding what I was trying to say, I walked out closing the door behind me. Trying to think I leant on the wall next to the door and breathed deeply. Before I could pull my mind back into shape Nick had opened the door and stepped out next to me.
“Alex, I’m done. It’s cool,” He laughed as I gave a tiny smile. “It was nothing, we’re friends, its fine. Go and freshen up, my mum made breakfast downstairs. So come down when you’re ready.” Finally I just smiled at him, and timidly nodded. I went and pushed the bathroom door open once again as I heard Nick call out from behind me.
“Oh and Good morning.” He said a smile on his face.
“Good morning Nick.” I replied, now laughing over the moment before. I watched him walk into his room before shutting the door.
I walked over to the mirror, studying my reflection and cringing. My hair was sticking up at odd angles, and frizzing out, while I still looked half asleep. I laughed, and splashed water on my face, before running a brush through my hair. I couldn’t be bothered with makeup now, but I pulled and elastic around my hair into a ponytail, then stared straight into my crystal blue eyes. My mind was completely absorbed into my looks, I know it sounds self centred, but it was all I saw when I looked in that mirror. My eyes, the eyes that I hated, the colour that was so light I found it scary to look at.
I pulled away from the mirror when a knock on the door came. Joe stuck his head in.
“Hey, uh mind if I grab my watch.” He asked pointing on the bench.
“Nope, I’m going downstairs anyway.” I said. Joe smiled and came in as I walked out.
“At least he knocked.” I said, rolling my eyes at myself.
Breakfast was as great as dinner, friendly, funny and nice. I had gotten over walking in on Nick this morning and was comfortably eating choc chip pancakes next to him. While Frankie sat to my left and kept asking me questions.
“Did you know that I can play wiffle ball better than Joe.” Frankie said proudly.
“That isn’t hard to imagine.” Nick smiled. Joe looked at both of them, faking hurt.
“Oh now that just isn’t nice. I am a superb wiffle ball player!” Joe said taking a sip of OJ.
“Too bad he can’t actually play.” Kevin said, making everyone laugh at Joe. Denise and Paul tried to hide their snickers behind their newspapers and coffee, but it was still noticeable.
“My own parents laughing. I’m shocked!” Joe said. Before anyone could reply the doorbell rang, sending loud dings through the house. It couldn’t be my mother, she wasn’t supposed to be here till 11, it couldn’t be more that 10.35
“What’s the time?” I asked suddenly. Nick looked at his watch.
“Uh, around twenty to 11.” He replied. She was early; my punctual business mother had come early. Why! I pushed my chair back and briskly walked to the door.
“Alexis what is it?” He said, running behind me. A chill ran down my body from the cold tiles.
“No what, but whom. It’s my mother.” I said, coming to a halt in front of the door. I peered down at myself. Nick’s clothes, my hair hardly done, no makeup.
“Aren’t you going to get it?” Nick asked to me pointing at the door. I turned to Nick, talking quietly.
“Nick, I’m in your clothes…my hairs not done. I have no makeup on! My mother is a perfectionist, who wants a daughter always looking her best and she has no idea that I was over at a guy’s house. I’m assuming she thought you were a girl, actually I knew she thought you were a girl.” I rambled, my eyed darting over the door handle.
“You never told her who you were staying with.” He asked surprised. I shook my head at nick, making my hair hang even looser.
“She was busy, her mind a zillion miles away. I just said I was staying with a friend.” I said.
“Well, it’s a bit late now, come on. It’ll be fine, if your mum is anything like you, this should be great.” Nick said and he pulled the door open. Too bad she’s nothing like me, I thought to myself.
“Well it’s about time. I thought I was going to have to burn the door down. Honey, what are you wearing, you look dreadful.” My mum’s eyes finally strayed past me and onto Nick. Nick looked like he was in shock, I couldn’t blame him. He was probably expecting some nice mother who stays at home and takes care of her children, not minding what she looked like and certainly not caring if her daughter wasn’t looking absolutely perfect. Instead my mother stood there, light brown hair twisted into sleek bun at her neck, at 5’7 her Jimmy Choo’s adding to her height and her crisp Chanel Suit hugging her body.
“And you are?” My mum asked, her eyebrow rose. Nick recovered and held a hand out.
“Nick Jonas, I’m Alexis’ friend.” My mother shook his hand, though clicked her tongue at me.
“Alexis, you didn’t feel inclined to mention you were staying at a male friend’s house?”
“Uh…no.” I replied softly, my mum’s hazel eyes were sharp, but she didn’t say anything else as the rest of the Jonas family filed in.
“This is Denise and Paul Jonas, and Kevin, Joe and Frankie. You might know the Jonas Brothers mum, uh…SOS…” My mum gave me a blank look. “The band.” I said with a sigh. Suddenly she snapped into a business mode, as if this was no more than a business meeting with some high profile clients. She shook everyone’s hands and plastered a smile on her face.
“Honey, you had better put some appropriate clothes on, and fix your hair. We have to leave now.” She said, taking a glance at her watch.
“But, it’s barely 11.” I said back, my arms wrapped around myself.
“Yes, we need to go, so move it!” I turned around and ran up the stairs, my face flushed. I heard my mum behind my back.
“I’m sorry; I don’t know what gets into her sometimes.” I shook my head and closed the guest room door, where Denise had left my now clean and dry clothes at the end of the bed. I pulled on my clothes quickly then rushed to the bathroom, brushing my hair and leaving it out, then quickly put some lip gloss on. She was probably talking them down like crazy.
I finally finished rushing around upstairs and hoped that I looked good enough for my mother. I walked down the stairs and gave Nick a smile; he smiled back then tilted his head towards my mum. I looked at her; she was explaining something about the stock market to Denise and Paul, who really looked like they couldn’t care less, but was too polite to stop her.
“Alright mum, I’m ready we can go. Thanks so much Mr and Mrs Jonas for letting me stay.” I said to them, giving them hugs.
“It was no trouble at all, come back anytime.” Denise replied, giving a warm smile.
“Nice meeting you all.” My mum said and she ushered me out.
“Bye!” I said, turning around and giving a wave to them, I wanted to say bye to Nick, but I felt my mum push me forward.
“Bye.” He said back, he stepped forward to give me a hug, but my mother grabbed my arm and pushed my through the front door, closing it behind her.
I climbed into my mum’s car and slid into the leather interior.
“Well, I guess they seem nice enough.” My mum said reversing from the drive way.
“They are, they’re probably one of the nicest families I know. Even though I wouldn’t have had to stay over if Liam had taken me home.” I said, staring out of the window, the houses passing quickly.
“You’re brother forgot, it’s an easy mistake to make, your so quiet no one ever notices you.” My mother laughed.
“Well, then I’m glad that I got left behind, because now I’m friends with the Jonas family…I bet they wouldn’t forget me.” I ended quietly.
“You know, friends like these are exactly what you need Alexis.” My neck whipped around and I stared at her.
“They are?” I said surprised at my mum, finally my mum was coming to her senses.
“Yes, they are just the right contacts you would want to have; they know all the right people and can get you to all the right places. I think you should get to know them better. What’s the young ones name? Nathan?”
“Nick.” I replied dryly.
“Right, stay in contact with him.” She said, and ran through a red light.
I couldn’t believe it; all she wanted was for me to be friends with them so I could…use them. She didn’t care that they were the most generous and loving family, but all she knew was they had money and connections and that was good enough. I bit my tongue, knowing an argument was not what I needed right now.
I saw my mum glance at the car clock.
“What is the rush mum, you just ran a red and you are focused more on the clock than on the road.” I said to her.
“Well, I have to catch a flight in two hours.” She said. I slowly looked over at her. She was leaving again? She had just got back a few days ago.
“You’re leaving…again! You got back THREE days ago?” I tried to keep the anger out of my voice, but it was hard. She was never around, never there when I needed her. Again, she was leaving me without a second thought.
“Don’t speak to me like that! Business doesn’t stop Alex and I need to close a deal in Germany.” She said, her voice clipped.
“How long are you gone this time?” I asked her, tears forming in my eyes, but she couldn’t even tell that I was upset.
“No longer than a week or two.” She said, keeping her tone light. I shook my head, a few tears slid down my cheeks. I hated this life, seeing my parents for two or three days a month, having a brother that didn’t want me to exist. All I wanted was for someone to be there and actually want to be there. Was that too much to ask for?
*Nick Jonas POV*
I watched Alexis’ car leave from the window, her eyes stared at her hands as she drove off. I couldn’t believe it; Alex was nothing like her mum! I could hardly see the resemblance and there was nothing in the personality that sounded like her. All I wanted to do was reach out and give her a goodbye hug, but of course her mum practically shoved her out the door. Maybe I should call her or something? I walked into my room and picked my cell phone up from my bed. As I went to press a number my thumb hovered over the keypad. What’s her number? I rubbed my hand over my face, mentally slapping myself. There goes the perfect girl. Sure her family may be questionable, but she was already a great friend, who I had no way of contacting! I walked over to my desk, stopping as I saw ‘Twilight’ and ‘Eclipse’ piled on top of each other. I walked right over and breathed in; Alexis’ picture was lying on the top. I picked it up and turned it over, as if expecting something to be there. In sweet, cursive writing was:
Hey Nick,
I’ll make this quick, cos everyone’s waiting for me downstairs. I just wanted to say thanks for being a great friend even if we have only known each other for two days! I left you the books, come over if you want the second one. Anyway, call me or e-mail me! Talk soon, hopefully… and seriously, thanks.

Her number and e-mail was written there, I smiled to myself and quickly punched her details into my phone, calling her number. My stomach churned as I waited to hear her sweet voice.
“Hello?” I heard a sniffle as her soft voice sent chills through me. Something wasn’t right though.
“Hey, it’s Nick. I got your note…are you alright?” I asked, concerned. I lay on my bed and waited for her to reply. I heard her breathe deeply and sniffle again.
“I dunno. It’s just my family I want to talk to them tell them how I feel, but it seems that everyone is leaving or doesn’t care.” She said, giving a small melodic laugh.
“Well, I’m all ears. So, whatever you need to say. I’m here and listening.”
So, now I am gonna try to write the one shot I so eagerly wanted to type hours ago but was told I wasn't allowed to until I posted here..hehe. RIGHT so comment, bump, LOVE JB and stay cooool!
