In the Blink of an Eye
Prologue
A young teenage girl, about the age of fifteen, followed her parents through the airport, which was buzzing with people, even though it was only 6 am. She was taking long strides to keep up as they quickly pushed through the large crowd of people. She wondered why there would be such a large crowd at this time in the morning, but before she could stop and see what was happening, her parents called her name and she rushed to catch up.
In one hand, she was holding a large suitcase that she was rolling behind her. Her other hand was clutching a much smaller hand, one of a little girl. The little girl was jogging to keep up with her big sister, clutching her teddy bear tightly, tears in her beautiful green eyes.
Only a few hours later, once their entire luggage had been checked in, they were boarding their flight. The fifteen-year-old girl was looking out the window beside her seat, tears rolling down her cheeks. She held on tightly to the necklace that was hanging around her neck, the silver heart digging into the palm of her hand. She looked down at it, reading the inscription that was carved in cursive writing: Always Positive. It was her motto, as well as her best friend’s, who was the one who had given her the necklace the previous night. However, in this situation, she was having problems staying positive.
She was afraid of what was going to happen in the future. She had grown up in a small quiet town, very peaceful. Not much happened over there, and not many people knew of it, but she loved the calm. Now, she was moving all the way across the country, to New York, where there was always something happening. It terrified her, to think of what could happen in that big city. Worst of all, it would be almost impossible to see her friends, since she would be all the way on the other end of the country.
A young lady’s voice suddenly started speaking through the plane’s speakers, giving the usual security instructions, but the teenage girl didn’t listen, not caring much about all those instructions. She wouldn’t need them anyway, so there was no point in listening.
While the young lady spoke, lots of memories flashed before the fifteen-year-old’s eyes. She could remember all the sleepovers she had with her friends, all those lunches when they would sit outside in the shade of the trees and talk about everything, and all the times when they would be eating ice cream together at the local diner. Then, bad memories came, like the day her dad announced that they would be moving because of his job, her last day of school, and the night before she left when she invited all her friends over to say goodbye.
“Laura,” a small voice said beside her, interrupting her thoughts. She turned to look over at her little sister, who was sitting beside her. Her parents were sitting in another section, since they hadn’t been able to get seats all together. “Will I be able to make new friends where we’re going?”
“Of course you will, Izzy,” Laura responded, her voice breaking as she hugged her little sister tightly. Isabelle was shaking as she sobbed against her big sister, tears pouring down. Laura tried to stop her tears from falling, but a few still fell down as she kept on hugging Isabelle.
The plane suddenly started moving and Laura let go off her little sister, quickly wiping away her tears. She looked back out the window and whispered, “Goodbye,” before the plane started rising in the sky, and the airport slowly disappeared.
This is just the prologue to an idea that I had for a fanfic, but I'm still not sure if I should continue it.
So, tell me what you think of it. Leave some comments on what you think.
If I get enough comments, I might continue writting it, but I don't want to start writting it and not get any comments. So, if you really like it, make sure to comment to read more.
