The Jonas tour bus rolled quietly down the highway, traveling down to their next concert. The Jonas boys were trying their best to entrain themselves. They were still an hour away from Savannah Georgia and board out of their minds.
Nick was lying on his bunk playing random notes on his guitar. Kevin was on the other side of the bus brushing up on his Guitar Hero skills. Joe and Mandy were on the couch looking at magazines.
Mandy was a girl the boys grew up with in New Jersey. She was touring with them for two weeks, but then it was back to school for her.
She was flipping through an Alloy clearance magazine, with Joe looking over her shoulder. He pointed at a shirt. “Oh! That one is cool. So is that one! You should but that one, Mandy.”
She swatted at him. “Joe, will you please stop breathing down my neck!” She pushed him over and put the magazine in between them. “There, now we can both look.”
She turned the page and they started looking at the graphic tee shirts. Joe pointed at a white shirt with faces all over it. “That’s cool. Why don’t you get that one?”
Mandy smiled. “Because it’s ugly. That’s why it’s on clearance.”
“No way, it’s awesome. That’s what I’m going to buy for my girlfriend.” He got up and grabbed a green sharpie from the table. He sat back down and started writing on his hand. Mod Faces, that’s what the shirt was called.
Mandy tossed her blond hair over her shoulders and turned the page. “Who do you go out with anyway, Joe?”
He kept writing on his hand. “As of now, no one. I’m still looking for the perfect girl.”
Mandy snickered. She was about to say something when Kevin walked in. “The perfect girl. Good luck with that.”
Joe looked up from his now green hand. “Kevin, you’re just sore that your girlfriend dumped you.”
Kevin glared at Joe and made his way towards the kitchen area of the bus. Soon they made it to Savannah and the arena where they were going to play. Joe walked off the bus and stretched with Nick, Kevin, and Mandy close behind.
Joe looked around and noticed a small group of people huddled together by the arena doors. He looked down at his watch. It was four o’ clock. He was surprised that more people weren’t there yet. In three more hours he and his brothers would be rocking out on stage.
A girl from the group looked up in Joe’s direction but then looked away. “Oh no,” Joe thought. “Fan girls.” He turned to Nick. “Sunglass me, Nick.”
Nick rolled his eyes and pulled three pairs of glasses out of his pocket. He handed a pair to Joe and Kevin, and then slipped his on. Joe put on his trademark glasses and couinted walking towards the arena. For some reason he was drawn over to the fans by the doors.
There were three girls and two guys standing in a disorganized circle. The tallest girl had short red hair. She wore a Jonas Brothers shirt with all three of their faces on the front. The other girl had longer brown hair, and she was sporting a tee-shirt and khaki pants. One of the guys had dark, almost black hair. The other had shaggy red hair.
But it was the third girl that caught Joe’s eye. She had dark brown hair that had sparks of red when the sun shone in it. He froze when he saw what she was wearing.
Nick bumped into him. “Dude, what’s wrong?” He looked in the direction Joe was looking and saw the group of fans. “Joe, they’re just fan girls, we got to go.”
He pulled on Joe’s arm. Joe kept staring through. He tried to walk towards the girl, but Kevin grabbed his other arm and directed him towards the doors. “We need to do sound check.”
They walked to the doors. Joe angrily shook his brother’s hands. He headed towards the back of the arena, when Mandy called after him.
“Hey Joe! Did you see what that girl was wearing?”
Joe spun around. “Yeah, it was that Mod Face shirt. I was going to go talk to her, until Kevin and-“he brought his fingers up and made quotations marks in the air-”your best friend dragged me away!”
Kevin took a step towards his brother. “Joe, I’m sorry but we have to do sound check, make-up, and everything else. You can talk to her later.”
Joe ran his fingers through his hair out of frustration. Nick didn’t understand at all. Joe usually bounced back from little stuff like this. “Dude, what’s the big deal?”
Joe looked at them like they were crazy. Why didn’t they understand? “What if she is my dream girl, huh?”
Kevin just rolled his eyes. “Joe, what are the chances-“
Joe held up a finger to stop Kevin. “Well, what are the chances of a girl wearing a shirt that only I like? The same shirt, mind you, I said I would buy for my girlfriend?”
Kevin looked defeated. He turned to Mandy for support, but she was too busy trying not to laugh. He turned to Nick but he wasn’t much help either. Kevin shook his head. “Fine, whatever go! You have ten minutes, and then I’m coming after you.”
Joe beamed and broke out into a run towards the door, fixing his hair the whole way. He burst through the doors, ready to meet the girl with the Mod shirt.
The sunlight hit Joe as he ran through the arena doors. He looked around franticly for the girl with the Mod shirt. He looked over to his and saw her. He smiled and stared walking towards the group. He noticed they were all smiling back, as he came closer. But then he stopped. They weren’t smiling at him, they were laughing!
He realized what an idiot he must have looked liked. He just ran over of the arena at full speed and now was walking towards a girl he didn’t even know. “Maybe Kevin was right.” He thought. But he shook the thought out of his mind. This was no time to be a pessimist!
After what seemed like forever, Joe finally made it over to the group. He tried to look at the whole group, but only ended up looking at the girl with the Mod shirt. He flashed her a Jonas smile. The sure fire way to win a girl over. “Hey.”
The girl giggled. “Hey yourself. Where’s the fire?”
“In front of me.”
The girl blinked in surprise and started to blush. Joe, himself was even surprised. He didn’t expect that to come out. In an attempt to recover himself, he stuck his hand out. “Joe Jonas.”
The girl smiled and took his hand. “Cheyenne Johnston.”
Joe marveled at how soft her hand her hand was. He never wanted to let go. “I usually give my fans a hug.” It was a statement, but there was a hidden question behind the words.
The girl’s eyes sparked. “Oh, well in that case why break tradition?” She hesitated stepping forward and gave him a hug. Joe noticed she was uncertain of how close to get to him. So he pulled her a fraction of an inch closer to him. That was all the convening she needed. She came closer and even squeezed a little. Joe smiled and squeezed back. The hug itself lasted less then three seconds, but to Joe it seemed like a lifetime.
They pulled apart and Joe noticed the guy with dark hair was tense. He was eyeing Joe, carefully watching him.
“Cheyenne, that’s a pretty name.” Joe said looking into her eyes. He noticed she has blue eyes with specks of green here and there.
She started blushing again. “Thanks.” The tall girl beside them cleared her throat, trying to make a point. Cheyenne looked at her sheepishly. “Sorry. This is Marie,” she said pointing at each of her friends, “Then Renee, Ryan, and Noah.”
Joe shook all their hands hurrdily, wanting to talk more to Cheyenne before his time ran out. As if on cue, the arena doors flew open and Kevin stepped out. “Joe! Time’s up!” He glared at Kevin then turned back to Cheyenne.
“Hey listen, I have some meet and greet passes I can give out. If you’re interested.”
Cheyenne’s eyes lit up. “Sure, yeah…thanks.”
Joe smiled. “Great, awesome.” He glanced over and saw Kevin heading over to them. “Sweet, so we’ll need one, two, three, four, and five. Five, awesome!” He was so happy, he was actually giddy, and he was rambling. As Kevin got closer and closer, Joe talked faster and faster. “Awesome, can’t wait. It’s going to be cool. Well got to go. Sound check. Bye!” He winked at Cheyenne and headed back to the arena, with Kevin right behind him.
The doors closed behind them and Joe shouted out in joy. “Yes!” Every head turned to look at him, but Joe didn’t care. As far as he was concerned, he was the happiest person alive. What Joe didn’t know was that he was the second happiest person alive.
Cheyenne Johnston was outside, still shocked that Joe Jonas talked to her. Randomly came out, talked and flirted with her. She could still feel the warmth of his hug. How good he smelled. Plus he gave her meet and greet passes! What was this world coming to?
Ryan was staring at her. Cheyenne sighed and shook her head at him.”Ryan, he’s gone now you can go out of bodyguard mode now.”
He looked annoyed and ran his hand through his dark hair. “What was that all about, anyway?” She just shrugged, still glowing. She had grown up all of them, and even when they were younger Ryan was always the protector.
“He likes you, Chey.” Marie said with a smile. Renee put an arm around her. “Joe Jonas likes you.” She said in a sing song voice.
Cheyenne shrugged of her friend’s arm. “No, he doesn’t. Maybe he just wanted to meet some of the fans.” That’s what she kept telling her-self as the outside of the arena filled up. She reminded her-self even more as they found they’re seats. She almost screamed it to her-self at the very thought of the Jonas Brothers running out on stage.
“Too bad we’re over on Nick’s side, huh Cheyenne?”Noah said. She stuck her tongue out at him and leaned back in her seat. In all honesty, she was disappointed that they weren’t in the middle where Joe would be. Nick was cool and all, but he hadn’t just flirted with her earlier.
Backstage, the Jonas boys were in lockdown. Every show they would go into a room and hyped up for forty-five minutes. No one could come into the room, no one could go out. Joe tried to focus on the show, but his thoughts kept returning to Cheyenne. Nick saw that he was distracted.
“Joe, dude, focus! We go on in less than three minutes.”
Kevin, trying to reach maximum hyperness, jogged to the door. He slapped the back of Joe’s head as he past.
Joe rubbed his head and followed his brothers. “They’re right.” He thought. “Focus, focus, focus!” He heard the rest of the band start up and felt a surge of energy. “Huh, maybe focusing won’t be that hard after all.” He thought as he ran out on stage.
Cheyenne’s heart practically stopped when she heard the familiar chanting that signed the start of the concert.
“We’re the kids, we’re the kids, we’re the kids of the future.”
She was on her feet in an incsent, and joined the hundreds of other girls in scarming. She heard her name being called and looking insectivly towards Joe, who was running out on stage. A chorus of laughter erupted beside her. She rolled her eyes and looked over to her friends.
Marie giggled as she fished through her oversized bag. “Sorry, Chey. It’s just me.” She said while passing a pair of blue sunglasses towards her. Renee laughed as she put on her own pair. She pressed a button and they flashed red lights. Noah and Ryan laughed as Marie and Cheyenne put on their own glasses.
“Total guys magnets.” Noah remarked trying to catch his breath.
Marie leaned over and gave him a playful push. “You’re just jealous that you don’t have sexy flashing glasses like us.”
Ryan looked the girls over. “Yeah, the hotness is almost too much to handle.”
Cheyenne was about to answer, when Nick walked up to a mic stand up on stage.
“Hey, I’m Nick!” Joe quickly scanned the crowd. “I’m Joe.” Kevin grabbed his guitar and walked over to Joe. “I’m Kevin, and we’re the Jonas Brothers!”
Deafening noise filled the whole arena. Ryan and Noah covered their ears, while the girls screamed right along with everyone else. Cheyenne jumped up and down with joy. “I can’t believe we got front row seats!” She yelled over to Renee trying to be heard over the noise.
“I know it’s awesome!” Renee yelled back. Soon the opening notes of S.O.S filled the arena. After that, they Goodnight and Goodbye, they played song after song feeding off the intense energy the crowd was giving off.
Up on stage, Joe scanned the crowd, looking for Cheyenne. His heart ached when they started singing Inseparable. He wanted nothing more than to sing it to her. Suddenly a flash of blue light caught his eyes. He looked over at Nick, wondering if maybe he was flashing. Nope, wasn’t Nick. Joe looked into the crowd and saw the source of the light.
“Cheyenne!” He yelled out happily. Thankfully for him no else heard him, but Nick and Kevin. He ran over to her and held out his hand to her.
She looked up at him, her eyes wide. Was Joe Jonas really there, offering his hand to her? She was certain she’d faint.
Joe looked down at her, suddenly worried. He was sure that she’d take his hand, now she was hesitating. But she smiled and grabbed his hand. He smiled back and pulled her up on the stage with him.
“Love your glasses.” He whispered in her ear. She blushed slightly and quickly pulled them off. “That was a complement, silly girl.” He said while taking the glasses out of her hand and putting them on his face. She laughed, pressing the button to turn them on. He looked like a three year old standing there beaming, wearing Cheyenne’s glasses.
He sang his part if the song looking into Cheyenne’s eyes. She danced with him and flirted with all three of the boys. She couldn’t help but notice the flash of jealously in Joe’s eyes, when she’d flirt with his brothers. The song ended and Joe pulled Cheyenne into a hug. She walked back to her seat, floating in a happy daze.
The concert ended way too soon and the group headed backstage. They almost made it, before Big Rob stopped them. “Passes please?”
All eyes were on Cheyenne. “Um, Joe…Joe Jonas said he’s get some for us.”
“Name?”
“Cheyenne. Cheyenne Johnston.” It sounded more like a question, rather than an answer.
The Burly man pulled a list out of his back pocket and looked it over. “Nope, there’s no Cheyenne Johnston on here.”
“Oh.” She was crushed. She just has looked it too, because the man smiled at her gently.
“I’m sorry miss. Sometimes Joe forgets, that’s all.”
She hurrdily wiped away a tear that crept out of the corner of her eye. “It’s cool. Thank you.” She turned on her heels and started to storm off.
“Wait! Cheyenne!”
Cheyenne stopped. She wasn’t sure if she was happy or mad to hear that sweet voice. She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned. Standing there was a grinning Joe. “Hey babe. Sorry about that. I was going to call Big Rob so he’d let you guys through, but you beat me to it.” He winked at her and she melted. Who could be mad at that? She smiled back at him as he wrapped an arm around her leading them inside the building. He led them into a room where Nick and Kevin were waiting for Joe and company to come back.
Ryan had gone into bodyguard mode ever since Joe out his arm around Cheyenne. Now he tensed even more as they walked into the room. Mostly because there were three girls with them, and three extremely popular handsome rock stars as well. He looked around hopelessly ad they hung out and talked. Kevin had been watching Renee the whole time. Nick had also been talking to Marie nonstop. Soon the group broke into couples.
Joe and Cheyenne sat on the floor talking, unaware of anyone else in the room. Kevin and Renee were standing by the door, talking and flirting. Nick and Marie sat on the couch. They would talk, then blush out of embarrassment, then talk some more.
Poor Ryan and Noah were left alone, standing in a corner, watching the love fest.
“This is so gross. Look at them.” Noah whispered over at Ryan.
“I know. Look at Joe, he practically in Chey’s lap.” Ryan whispered back.
Noah looked over and saw about two feet between the two, but decided to keep quiet. He knew better then to miss with Ryan when he was in bodyguard mode.
Over on the floor, Joe was having one of the best nights of his life. Cheyenne was more wonderful then he had thought. She was funny, loved music and reading, and could tolerate him. Which was always a plus. They talked about bands, movies, books, anything and everything that came to mind. But for Joe the night had to end too soon.
Over by the door, Renee gasped. “It’s nine-thirty already! We’ve got to go.”
Cheyenne moaned. “A half an hour more? Pretty please?”
Renee looked from Cheyenne back to Kevin, torn. She sighed. “Sorry, we’ve got to go.”
Ryan and Noah jumped to their feet and headed out the doors, throwing goodbyes over their shoulders. Joe sighed and looked over at Cheyenne, who looked as bummed as he was. “Hey do you have a phone?”
“Yeah.” She said, while reaching into her pocket. She pulled out it out and handed the Razor to him. He grinned as he flipped it open and started pushing buttons. Soon he flipped in closed and handed the phone back to her, grinning for ear to ear.
They both got to their feet, joining the others in saying goodbye. They watched Kevin hug Renee and Nick play with Marie’s phone.
Joe turned to Cheyenne. “This was fun. We’ll have to get together, next time we come down.”
Her eyebrows rose. “Next time?”
“We leave tonight.”
She frowned slightly. “Oh.”
Joe couldn’t stand it any longer. He grabbed her shoulders and pulled her into a tight hug. He was bombarded by emotions as she hugged back. It took everything he had not to kiss her, as he took in her sent. “It’s too soon to kiss her.” He thought to himself. “It wouldn’t be right.”
They pulled apart, both on slight natural high. Cheyenne sighed and joined Renee and Marie by the doors. She smiled sadly at Joe and walked out of the room.
The boys sat on the tour bus, each zoned out, waiting to arrive at the next city. Joe sat staring out the window, watching the outside world go by in a blur. He sighed loudly for the umpteenth time since they left Savannah.
Mandy looked up for her book. “Joe! What’s your problem?” He turned from the window and gave her a pitiful look. “Oh nothing.” He said, sighing again.
Nick lifted his head off the couch and opened one eye. “Well, can you get over it? I’m trying to sleep.”
Joe sighed even louder. “I’ll try.”
Kevin rolled his eyes and looked up from his phone. “Joseph, just call her! Text her! Do something! You’re driving us crazy!”
Joe sadly turned back to the window. “I can’t” Kevin shook his head and continued texting. Nick grinned and opened one eye. “Oh man, this should be good. Why can’t you call or text her, Joe?”
Joe let out another sigh. “I don’t have her number.” Everyone groaned, knowing that the next eight hours was going to be complete madness.
Later that night, Renee pulled into her driveway after dropping Ryan and Noah off at their houses. Cheyenne and Marie were spending the night at Renee’s apartment. Renee put the car in park and pulled out her phone. “Wow! Ten new texts.”
Marie leaned over the front seat. “Wonder who they’re from.”
Cheyenne smiled. “It couldn’t be from Kevin, could it?” She asked sarcastically. Renee flipped open her phone and blushed. Cheyenne smiled victoriously. “Yup, it’s Kevin.” They all got out of the car and walked into the apartment. They weren’t that far into the door, when Cheyenne collapsed sleepily on the couch.
“I’m going to bed.” Marie said in-between yawns. Renee followed her up the stairs. “Same here. Night Chey!”
“Night.” She called after them. She curled up into a ball on the couch and pulled out her pink and black Razor.
New Contacts
“Huh, that’s weird. I didn’t add anybody.” She thought to herself as opened up her contact list. She scrolled down the list and laughed to herself.
Joe Jonas, Jonas Joe, Danger, DJ Danger, Your fav. Rocker, #1 rock star, hardcore tambourine player…
The list went on and on. With a laugh, Cheyenne went down to Danger and hit call.
“Hello?” A groggy voice answered.
“Hey, is this DJ Danger or Joe? Or is this hardcore tambourine player?”
A sleepy chuckle came through the line. “I guess you finally opened your phone. Um, give me a second.” Random bumps and noises could be heard through the line, many of which were followed by “Ouch’s!” There was a content sigh as the background finally fell into silence.
“Ok, I’m back. This is Cheyenne right?”
“Yeah, it’s me. Did I wake you?”
“Kind of. Everyone was in the living room, we must have fallen asleep. I had to crawl over Nick and Mandy to get away. Now I’m in my bunk. How are you?”
“Good. Um…who’s Mandy?”
“Best friend from Jersey.”
Understanding dawned on her. “Oh! Like the song!”
Joe laughed. “Yeah, the one from the song. Nothing romantic or anything. She’s just chilin with us for a bit.”
Cheyenne sighed with relief. Joe laughed again. “Are you relived?” Her face grew hot with embarrassment. “Oh, you heard that?”
“Yeah.” He said, still laughing. “It was cute though. Hey, what time is it?”
She jumped of the couch and walked into the kitchen. “Um, 12:50.”
“Oh crap!”
“What’s wrong?
“We have a radio interview in exactly six and a half hours.”
“Then go to bed!”
There was a long pause on the other end. “But I’m talking to you.” He said in a confused tone.
“Joe, you have a phone right?”
“Yeah…”
“And on this phone, you can call people, right?”
Joe realized where this was going and laughed. “Yes.”
“Then call me back whenever you want.”
“One problem, though. I don’t have your number.”
“Err, that’s not good. Let me give it to you.” Joe sat up in his bunk, and managed to hit his head on the ceiling. “Ow!”
“Joe? Are you ok?” He leaned over out of his bunk to reach a pen. But suddenly he lost his balance and fell, hitting the carpet with a thud. With a slight moan, he reached across the carpet and grabbed his green sharpie. “Ok, give me the number before I manage to kill myself.”
Cheyenne laughed and gave him her number. He wrote it on his hand, by his Mod face shirt notes that hadn’t washed off yet.
“Hey, get some sleep ok?”
Joe chuckled, but it sounded more like a yawn choked with laughter. “Ok, night.”
“Night, Danger.”
He hit the end call button on his iPhone and pushed it away from him. He lay there, trying to get up. To a least go somewhere a bit more comfortable. He fell asleep, trying to convince himself.
Now comment lots and lots. In the words of one of my friends "Comment like there's no tomorow!"
