My first ever go at writing a fan fic...obviously this is a work of fiction...please excuse any typos or spelling errors...

Born To Try
“Ugh Daddy are you trying to ruin my life on purpose” Sommer yelled throwing her hands in the air
“Sommer honey, I am not trying to ruin your life. 1000’s of teenage girls would give their right arm to be travelling on tour with the Jonas Brothers” Mike Scott her Father said clearly
“Then take one of them” Sommer pouted
“Sommer honey” Mike warned
“Daddy please…you move me half way around the world and then you tell me I will be living out of a bus with 3 boys, plus their parents and the rest of this band. Daddy I’m 15 I have needs” Sommer yelled
“Sommer end of discussion, you’re going and we are leaving tomorrow morning so get your packing done tonight because if it’s not you will be coming whether you have all your things or not” Mike warned his daughter
“Ugh” Sommer said with a stomp of her feet
Turning on her heel, Sommer ran up the stairs past the family that were standing in the doorway without a backwards glance.
“And that was my soon to be 15 year old daughter Sommer” Mike smiled at the Jonas family as Sommer turned her music to full volume
“Oooo Thirsty Merc…cool” Joe said with a nod of his head
“Denise, Kevin please come in take a seat “
“Mike, these are our boys Kevin who is 20, Joe is 18, Nick is 15 and Frankie is 7” Kevin said introducing his boys
“It’s very nice to meet you Mr Scott” The boys said politely
“Oh boys please its Mike and it a pleasure to meet you…Sommer and I are looking forward to the tour” Mike lied as the boys raised their eyebrows at him
“Well let’s just say I am and Sommer can be persuaded” Mike laughed as he looked up the stairs
“I am just going to get Sommer to turn down that music and get her to come and meet you all” Mike said as he got up and jogged up the stairs
Mike walked into his daughter’s bedroom, turned down the music and placed his hand on his daughters shoulder. Sommer looked up from her book and glared at her father
“Nice touch with the music honey” Mike said to his daughter
‘What can I say…it’s a great way to piss you off and it doesn’t disturb me” Sommer signed to her Dad
“Very funny” Mike signed back
“Come on, come downstairs and meet the boys…their really cute!!” Her dad teased as Sommer rolled her eyes
“Ok I’ll be down in a few” Sommer said with a smile
“Ok honey, see you soon” Mike said kissing his daughter on the forehead
“Oh and Dad” Sommer said as her father turned to look at her “Please don’t tell the boys I am deaf…I kind of want to get to know them first before I do”
“Honey, I don’t think they would care” Mike said softly
“I know…but…” Sommer trailed off
“Ok honey, I will leave it to you to tell them” Mike smiled at his beautiful daughter before walking out of the room
Walking down the stairs, Mike thought about his beautiful daughter and the hardships she had to endure in her short 15 years. Sommer was deaf and had been from the age of 6 which is why she could speak so well and no one knew she was deaf unless she told them. Her lip reading skills were phenomenal and she could feel the beats of music if she put her hands on the instrument being played or her hands on the speaker playing the music… She was ill as a child and contracted an infection which damaged her hearing…he was currently looking into different options for her and it looked like some break through surgery was coming out of Switzerland that could repair her hearing damage.
Nick glanced up the stairs as he heard light footsteps on the wood…his breath caught in his throat and his heart beat wildly in his chest…*CENSORED* she was gorgeous. She was tiny about 5ft with a slender, bordering on skinny body kitted out in fitted low rise jeans that emphasised her slender legs and a red polo shirt that sat just above her navel emphasising her bony hips. She had an exotic colouring, dark curly hair that fell to the middle of her back, model cheek bones and emerald green almond shaped eyes. Wow she was seriously stunning
Sommer came to stand by the chair her father was sitting in and rested her hand on his shoulder and stared at the family in front of her. Wow the boys were seriously cute. The one with the curly hair was hott. He had a cute face, slender frame and a mop of curly dark hair and the little one, he was a sweetie he looked about 7 or 8.
“Everyone, this is my daughter Sommer…Sommer honey this is Mr and Mrs Jonas and their boys, Nick, Joe, Kevin and Frankie” Mike introduced as Sommer stared at her father
“It is very nice to meet you all” Sommer smiled at the family looking intently at each member should one of them speak to her
“It’s very nice to meet you Sommer honey, we look forward to having you on the tour” Mrs Jonas said
“Thank you Mrs Jonas…I am sure it will be exciting” Sommer lied
“Oh honey call us Denise and Kevin” Mrs Jonas said with a smile
Mike placed his hand on his daughter’s shoulder causing her to look at him, “Honey why don’t you take the boys up stairs to the games room and get to know them. We have some stuff to sort out down here before the tour tomorrow” Mike told his daughter
“Sure Dad” Sommer smiled and turned to the boys “Come on” She gestured as she turned to go up the stairs
The boys followed Sommer up the stairs watching the swing of her ass as she took each stair. Sommer pushed open the games room door and stood aside for the boys to enter.
“Holy crap”
“Wow, sweet set up”
“*CENSORED*”
“Cool, room” Frankie said jumping up and down in the door way
“Please go in, make yourself at home” Sommer said
The boys flopped down on the couch and the little one flopped down in one of the beanbags
“Would you like something to eat or drink? I have water, coke regular and diet, orange and apple juice, fruit, nuts, lollies, chocolate and muesli bars ” Sommer asked the boys
“Yeah coke will be great thanks” Kevin and Joe nodded
“I'll have water thanks” Nick added
“I'll have coke too” Frankie said
“Ugh I don’t think so” Sommer shook her head “Aren’t you too young to be drinking coke?” Sommer said
“Yeah he is” Joe said looking at his brother “He will have apple juice thanks Sommer”
“Sure” Sommer said busying herself with organising the drinks
“So Sommer you’re not that excited about going on tour with us huh!” Joe said as Sommer had her back to him
“Sommer” Joe said again and still no answer as Joe looked at his brother and shrugged
“Sorry did you say something” Sommer asked turning around to look at the boys
“Umm yeah we were just commenting on the fact that you don’t seem to happy about joining us on tour” Kevin said
“Yeah well…I kind of wanted to go to high school…I mean it’s just…anyway I am sure it will be great” Sommer smiled slightly
“Yeah it will be, you will have fun we promise” Nick smiled
“So Sommer, how old are you?” Kevin asked
“I will be 15 in December” Sommer smiled
“Yes” Nick cheered as everyone looked at him
“What…that means I am no longer the baby” Nick smiled “So I guess you and I will be sharing a tutor then Sommer”
“I guess so…” Sommer shrugged
“So Sommer what do you like to do when you are not touring with us” Joe laughed
“Ummm I like to surf, do yoga, read, photography, hang with my friends” Sommer smiled
“Yoga huh…So I’m guessing your pretty flexible” Joe said with a raise of his eyebrows and Sommer laughed at him
“Wouldn’t you like to know” Sommer flirted
“Is that an offer?” Joe smooched
“You wish” Sommer laughed as Joe pretended to pout
“Boys, time to go” Mr Jonas yelled up the stairs
“Coming” The four boys called back as they got up and left the room, Sommer hot on their heels
"So we will see you tomorrow Sommer…sleep well because it will be your last good sleep for the next year” Joe and Kevin laughed as they walked out the door
“Don’t pay any attention to them” Nick smiled as he followed his brothers
“We will pick you up tomorrow at 5am Mike” Kevin Snr said
“Great thanks see you then” Mike said closing the door behind them
“Ok baby girl, you heard the man….5am off to bed you go” Mike said steering his daughter towards the stairs
"Actually Daddy…I didn’t so much hear him as I read him” Sommer laughed as she looked back at her dad roll his eyes at her
“Sweet dreams baby girl”
“Night daddy” Sommer smiled as she jogged up the stairs
Sommer sat on the bottom step of the stairs and pulled her ugg boots on as her dad sat next to her
“Are you sure you want to wear your pj’s sweetie” Mike signed
“Yep, I plan on going back to bed when we get on the bus” Sommer signed back
“Honey I think you should get to know the boys a bit more first” Mike signed
“Daddy I have a whole year…I’m sure I will cope not living in the boys pockets for the first day” Sommer smiled
“Right well, the bus is here lets go chickadee” Mike laughed as he pulled Sommer off the bottom step
Nick pressed his nose up to the bus window and watched Sommer walk out the front door with her dad; she was still dressed in her pj’s. She had long pastel striped pants on, teamed with a pastel green singlet, her long hair was caught up in a ponytail, ugg boots on her feet and glasses perched on her nose.
“Oooo Nick’s got a crush, Nick’s got a crush” Joe said in a sing song voice
“Piss off Joe” Nick said chucking a pillow at his older brother
“Oooo Nick’s in love” Joe smirked as Kevin walked in to see what all the commotion was about
“What’s going on?” Kevin asked as Nick flew off the couch and hurled himself at Joe
Laughing and wrestling, Joe explained to Kevin that Nick was in Looove with Sommer
“Boys come on” Denise Jonas yelled towards the back off the bus
“Coming Mum” Kevin yelled back
Kevin, Nick and Joe walked into the main living area of the bus and launched themselves onto the couch next to Sommer, knocking her off onto her ass. Sommer glared up at the boys
“Oops” Joe laughed as he held his hand out for Sommer to take
Sommer rolled her eyes and placed her hand in Joe’s and allowed him to pull her to her feet
“Welcome to the mad house Sommer” Kevin Snr smiled
“Ok all group meeting before we start his tour…there are some things we need to share” Denise smiled to everyone
“Ok I will start, boys be respective of Sommer, give her space, make sure you knock before you enter a room should she be undressing or in her underwear and remember she is an only child and is not used to the constant bugging of siblings so be nice” Denise warned the boys
“Nick your turn, you need to fill the new members of our team in about your condition” Denise said to her youngest boy
“Ummm” Nick blushed as he turned to Sommer and Mike “I have diabetes, I watch my diet, wear this Omnipod which helps to regulate my blood sugar and gives me a regulated dose of insulin. We pretty much have it under control…but ummm there are times when I have blood sugar lows and stuff” Nick shrugged
“Sure, just make sure you let Dad and I know the signs so we know what we are looking for when you have an episode” Sommer shrugged as every one looked at her amazed that she wasn’t really fazed by it or asking annoying and personal questions
“Ummm yeah, I kind of get spaced out and sweat and become really lethargic when I have a low and really mean and sarcastic when my sugar is too high” Nick informed Sommer
“Ok so what do we do to help if you are like this?” Sommer asked
“Ummm get me some orange juice as that works fast, and I snap out of it and can give myself some insulin or if it’s high just water and rest” Nick explained
“Sure we can do that” Sommer smiled at Nick
“Ok Sommer your turn” Mike said to his daughter as she glared at him “Do it or I will” he added
“Ugh fine…I’m deaf” Sommer said to everyone
“You’re what?” Joe said in confusion
“Deaf…means I can’t hear” Sommer said with a smirk
“I know what it means” Joe said “But you speak and know what we are saying and…” Joe trailed off
“Yeah well I have only been deaf since I was 6 so I was already speaking before and I lip read really well so yeah” Sommer shrugged
“So can you like hear nothing at all?” Nick asked
“Yep nothing at all, so if you want to speak to me and I am not facing you, you have to touch me to get my attention and speak clearly and one at a time or I can’t understand” Sommer explained
“So like do you know sign language?” Kevin asked
“I sure do…my Dad and I used it all the time to argue in public, right Dad” Sommer spoke as she signed along with it
“Sure honey” Mike signed back
“Wow mum is a sign language teacher” Kevin said
“What language do you use honey?” Denise asked
“Auslan, it’s an Australian version of traditional sign” Sommer said
“I don’t know that, you will have to teach me some” Denise smiled
“Wow, so like you can’t watch movies or listen to music and talk on the phone and stuff” Joe said in awe
“No I can, I watch movies and tv with subtitles, I text instead of calling on the phone and I can feel the beat of music if I put my hands on the speakers or on the instrument that is being played” Sommer shrugged
“You seem pretty cool with it all” Kevin said
“My lot in life…others have it much worse than I do” Sommer smiled as the boys look at her in admiration
“Ok now it’s my turn” The boys Dad said
“Sure Dad, what’s your piece of news” Joe laughed
“We have three buses this tour, you boys, Sommer on this one, the rest of the band on the other bus and the adults and Frankie are in the third bus” Kevin Snr said
“Cool”
“Ureal”
“We love you” The boys chorused
“There are rules and Kevin and Joe I expect you two to look after Nick and Sommer and make sure they do the right thing and keep up with their school work and such. Sommer and Nick, if you abuse it we will switch back and split you up with the adults. Do you all understand?” Kevin Snr said
“We understand Dad, we won’t blow it” Kevin nodded in understanding
“Ok then…we will leave you to it. Sommer and Nick your school work starts tomorrow. Have fun and behave” Denise said to the group
“Sure mum” Nick nodded in agreement
“Ok honey, be good and be nice to the boys” Mike signed to his daughter
“Of course Daddy” Sommer signed back
Mike got up and kissed his daughter on the forehead before following the Jonas’ out and onto the other bus
“Yes…parent free zone” Joe yelled jumping up and down on the couch “Let’s party”
“Can someone please show me where I will be sleeping?” Sommer asked
“Yeah I will, follow me” Nick said standing up and picking up Sommer’s sports bag that held all of her essentials for the bus
“I would say keep it down…but hey I can’t hear you anyway so party as hard as you like” Sommer smiled as she took off after Nick
“Man she is cool….and Nick is so into her” Joe said as he sat down on the couch
“Give the kid a break, he’s only just met her…you know he likes to take it slow so don’t pressure him” Kevin warned Joe
“Yeah yeah, a little push in the right direction never hurt anyone” Joe smiled wickedly
“This is you…you are just under me so if you need anything just holler” Nick said opening the curtain on the bus bunk for Sommer
“Hey its great thanks Nick” Sommer smiled as Nick set her bag down on the bunk
“These draws here are for all your stuff and there is a draw in the bathroom with your name on it for all your make-up and stuff and a wardrobe in the back lounge” Nick said
“Cool, thanks Nick. I’m just going to catch up on some sleep ok…I’ve only been here in the states for 3 days and it is really starting to catch up with me” Sommer explained
“Sure sweet dreams and we will try and keep the noise down” Nick smiled
“No need, can’t hear remember” Sommer laughed
“Oh yeah I forgot, sorry” Nick blushed
“Don’t be…it’s kind of nice” Sommer smiled and laid her hand on Nick’s arm
“Sure sleep well” Nick said leaning in and placing a kiss on Sommer’s cheek with a blush before turning and leaving her alone.
Sommer busied herself with putting away her things before snuggling down in her bunk and closing the curtain behind her for a few hours of well deserved sleep.
