Hey guys. I had nothing better to do tonight, so i typed a chapter! Lucky for all you readers! Enjoy!
Chapter 4
Joe’s P.O.V.
I had felt a storm coming on all night. There was a bad feeling nagging at the back of my mind the whole night. All heck broke loose when I saw the boy with reddish brown curly hair wandering around.
I went to warn Kevin to keep an eye out. The last thing we needed is for Gabby to break down again. Not after she finally healed.
I had gone to get a coke, when I saw Gabby burst into tears and start to run away. I had started after her, when I saw the boy run towards her too. But he never got the chance to reach her, Kevin got to him first. I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but Kevin didn’t look too happy.
I stopped running and looked around. I heard sobs coming from the park benches and I had no doubt how they were from. I ran over to see Gabby crying into her hands. My heart almost broke to see her like that. I sat down and wrapped my arms around her. She tried to push me away. I didn’t take it personally though. No doubt she thought it was him.
“Why him?” She asked, sobbing.
I held her closer and gently rocked her back and forth in an effort to try and calm her. “I know. Shh…it’s going to be ok.”
“Why now? Why Sean?” At the mention of his name, she sobbed even harder burying her head into my chest. Intend of sadness, I felt surge anger flair up at the mention of the name Sean.
Sean was Gabby’s ex-boyfriend. She had fallen madly in love with him. Really she would have given the world to that boy if she could. It was her bit of rebellion. He was a rebel that no one, including me and my brothers, approved of. But they did have a good thing going for a while. That is until he left. He didn’t even tell goodbye. His family and he just moved out of town, without a backwards glance.
Gabby was crushed. I remember all the late night phone therapy sessions we had with her. How many times I and Kevin held her until the early morning hours, until she had cried herself to sleep. She finally made her peace though. I can remember me, Kevin, Janessa, and Chelsea standing with her as she threw his class ring into the lake, letting go of him forever. But now he was back.
Her sobs came to a slow stop, but I just held her unsure of what condition she was in. She took a deep breath and pulled back. Her eyes were red and wet from fresh tears.
“Are you ok?” I asked as softly as I could.
She shook her head yes, but her eyes said otherwise. “Why do you think he’s here for?”
I sighed. “Honestly?”
She raised her eyebrows. “Of course.”
“I think he might have wanted to talk to you. When you ran off, he took off after you.” I saw her worried look and hugged her again. “Don’t worry. I’m not letting him anywhere near you. If he even tries to say a word to you, he’ll find out why they call me Danger.”
She laughed softly and buried her face into my shoulder.
Nick’s P.O.V.
I had no clue what was going on. One minute Gabby and Frankie are deeply involved in a game of Frisbee, then the next minute Gabby’s in tears and Kevin’s threatening some guy.
Fearing the worst, I ran towards where I saw Joe running. I was greeted with the sight of Joe and Gabby sitting on the beach. I felt a pang of jealously when I saw that Joe had his arms around her. I wanted nothing more than to be Joe right then. I quickly shook that thought out of my head. Everyone knew Joe and Kevin were like big brothers to her.
I looked at Joe, trying to figure out what the heck was going on. He mouthed *Sean*. Oh. That explains it. I knew the guy Kevin was threatening looked familiar. I bent on my knees so that I’d be eye level with her. “Hey, you ok? Do you need me to beat him up or something?”
She smiled slightly as she pulled back enough from Joe to meet my gaze. “No offense, Nick. But he would more than likely kill you. Thank you though.”
I smiled. I looked up to see Joe watching me. He nodded slightly in her direction and I knew instantly what he meant. I nodded eagerly, as Joe bent his head to whisper in her ear. “Hey, I’m going to check on Kevin. You going to be ok?”
She sniffed. “Yeah.” Joe stood up and I quickly took his place. She looked at me then Joe’s retreating figure and just shrugged. I looked over at the trees, in deep thought. I heard a small sniffle, and turned to see a quiet tear roll down her cheek. I pulled her to me. She snuggled against me, sighing contently. I can’t help but smile as I held her close. Her breathing evened, and I knew she was asleep. I suddenly hated Sean. Which for me was odd. But I couldn’t understand why he would leave someone as wonderful as the sleeping girl in my arms.
