We’ll Make It Through
[Sequel to I’m Not Going To Write You A Love Song]
Chapter One
“’Cause you make me smile, please stay for a while now. Just take your time, wherever you go.”
-Colbie Calliat [Bubbly]
“I miss you.” I said to Kevin over the phone. I was in St. Louis while he was in Los Angeles, and since that night he came to my house, in tears, we had been going out. He had to be in LA as of right now, but we were making it work.
“I miss you more,” he replied in that sweet voice of his.
I sighed. “Kev, don’t start that again,” I warned him, trying not to smile, even if he couldn’t see me.
“What, you didn’t like being on the phone with me for three hours?”
I laughed. “Of course I did, but I have a huge paper due tomorrow, and I’m nowhere near being done.” I looked around the dorm room I shared with my best friend, Ashlee. There were books scattered around me on my bed, my laptop directly in front of me. I scrolled through the comments on my MySpace, giggling, because at least half of them were from Kevin.
“I’ll let you go, but first, I have a surprise,” he teased.
My head jerked up. “What kind of surprise?”
I could tell he had a smirk on his face. “Well…” he started. “You know your winter break is two weeks away.”
I nodded. My break was two weeks away, beginning on the 12th of December, so I didn’t see how that was a surprise. “Yes…”
“I was wondering,” he said. “If you would like to come to LA.”
I gasped. “Kev, I would love to!” I practically screamed.
“Ow, my ear,” he joked.
I grinned. “I’m sorry, babe, but that would be amazing! A whole…wait, how long would I stay?”
“As long as you would like,” he replied.
I laughed. “Well, my break ends January 17th, so I guess until then! If you can handle me that long,” I kidded.
He laughed, causing me to melt. “I could be with you forever.”
I blushed. “I’ll go, but there’s one condition.”
He sighed. “Go on…”
“Ashlee has to come, too,” I stated. Ashlee was still with Joe, and as far as I knew, things would not go over well if she wasn’t invited.
“Of course!” he replied. “Joe has been bugging me ever since I told him I was inviting you, so he should be calling her tonight.”
I laughed. “You’re an amazing brother,” I told him. “And boyfriend.” I lay back, resting my head on my pillow, and took the picture frame on my bedside table into my hand. It was the picture of Kevin and I from the first day I met him.
“I love you, Syd,” he said softly from his end of the phone.
I sighed and shut my eyes, picturing Kevin right in front of me as I hugged the frame to my chest. “I love you, too.”
Our little moment quickly ended when Ashlee burst through the dorm room door.
“SYDNEY!” she screamed.
I rolled my eyes. “I’m guessing Joe just called her,” I said to Kevin.
He laughed. “That he did. I’ll let you go talk to her. Call me tomorrow, okay?”
“Of course,” I breathed into the phone at his kindness. “I love you.”
“Love you, too,” he replied, hanging up.
“Oh, my God, Syd!” Ashlee shouted from where she was hanging up her coat in the closet we shared. “We’re going to LA!”
I jumped up and hugged her. “I know!”
“There’s so much to do before we go,” she exclaimed, pacing the room back and forth. “Get some new clothes, buy Joe a present, get a mani-pedi…” she rambled on an incredibly long list. I tuned her out and began working on my 12-page paper, but I only got so far, thanks to my phone.
One new text.
I removed my hands from the keyboard and clicked “Read”.
I miss you already. –Kev
I smiled and quickly replied.
Goodnight, Kevin. Xoxo –Sydney
A few milliseconds later, my phone vibrated again.
Sweet dreams, baby. –Kev
I sighed. I would definitely have sweet dreams tonight.
