“You ready for lockdown?” Joe asked Kevin and Nick. It was a few minutes before 7, and the show started at 8. We were all backstage at their concert in NYC, talking about nothing really. How amazing our fans were, what are interests were. I learned a lot more about the boys than I had in the 1 year I had obsessed over them.
“Yup. Come on Nick, let’s go,” Kevin said as he picked himself up.
“Ok. See you later Em,” Nick said. He smiled at me before turning off into a room a few doors down. I leaned back in the couch I was on and pulled out my cell. Unlike most celebrities, I didn’t have an iphone. I had an LG ENV. And I loved it.
I scrolled down my contact list to Ashley. She was the second on my list, 1 behind my older college sister Ann. Ashley was my only true best friend. I didn’t have many friends in school, so moving to LA wasn’t all that devastating for me. I was discovered by accident, really. There was a karaoke competition at my school, and a scout was there looking for a singer on some new TV show. He saw I was good, Disney soon saw me after, and within 3 months I had an album. It was amazing. We moved to LA one month after the album released. Ashley was our new neighbor, with her parents and little brother Will. Ashley was 16, one year older than me. She had starred in a few commercials and was working on a big movie when I met her. We got along really well, and we’ve been best friends ever since.
I clicked call and listened to the ringing of the phone. After maybe one ring, Ashley picked up.
“Ok, now I need deets. NOW!” she literally yelled into the phone. I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Well, yes, I am on tour and there is one more show left. Oh, which reminds me, you willing to come out to NY tomorrow?”
“Well, duh! Nothing to do out here in boring old LA.”
“Ok, good, my mom said she already had some tickets set up and you were heading out around 8 tomorrow morning. So get packing!”
“Thanks for the heads up....So how’s this tour been? I haven’t heard anything!”
“It is amazing! Usually about 4,000 people show up, and last night there had to be at least 5,000. And that is a lot for me!”
“That is so cool! And next time I go anywhere without a cell phone, bring me back and glue it to my hand.”
“You know I will. Now it’s my turn to ask questions. How was Australia?!”
“Woah, girl. I’m not done. Have you had any special guests, how many dates are there, how many times did you go shopping. Oh, and please tell me you saw some cute boys!”
“Well, a group called Blank opened for us, there were about 30 some dates, I only shopped 15 times, and no, there weren’t any guys along the way.”
“Wow, I can’t believe you are on tour!”
“I know. It’s been so much fun!”
“But it would’ve been better with me, right?”
“Of course.”
“That’s what I thought....So what’s going on tonight?”
“Actually, I’m at a show.”
“But I thought you said there was one more date tomorrow?”
“It’s not exactly my concert...”
“Well, whose is it...”
“Just some band.”
“Who?”
“I told you, a band!”
“Well, what band!”
“A boy band.”
“Tell me!! You are killing me here!”
Before I say anything, let me point out Ashley is also a huge Jonas Brothers fan. And I mean huge.
“Ok, ok, I’m backstage at a Jonas Brothers concert.”
After that, I pretty much went deaf. I really couldn’t make out anything she said, except “Jonas!” “OMJ!” and “Seriously?!”
For a second, I almost screamed with her. I mean, I was backstage at a Jonas Brothers concert.
From there she asked even more questions. Finally she stopped, and we talked about everything we missed. An hour passed by too soon.
“Yo, we are ready to go!” Joe ran into the room.
“Um, Ash, I kinda have to go, so I’ll talk to you later.”
“Oh, ditch your best friend for a Jonas concert.”
“I’ll talk to you later.”
“Sees yas tomorrow.”
“Sure thing,” I said and clicked end on my phone.
“And Emma, my girl, we are going to bring you out on stage later on. You don’t have to sing or anything, I just figured our adoring fans might like it,” Joe said.
“Sure, it’s fine with me.”
“Ok, we’ll have you come on out after ‘A Little Bit Longer’. Join us for ‘S.O.S.’, I know you’re familiar with it,” Joe said with a wink.
“I believe I am. Good luck and have fun,” I said.
“I know we will!” Joe bounded onto the platform under the stage. It was amazing how this stage, the one I sang on last night, could be turned into something so amazing.
“See ya later,” Kevin said as he grabbed his guitar. I nodded at Nick as he too went to his position. The crowd was already pumped, chanting “Jonas! Jonas!”
“One day, when I came home, at lunch time, I heard a funny noise...”
