Chapter 4
"With you I lose myself. Without you I find myself wanting to become lost again."
--Unknown
He stared at me, intensely, he must have been thinking about something. At the sound of my voice he snapped out of it."Nothing." He rubbed his eyes then looked back up at me, smiling. "So Natalie, as long as we're pretty much stuck down here, why don't you tell me about yourself?"
"What do you want to know?"
"Anything. Where are you from?"
"Naperville, a suburb about 45 minutes away from Chicago." I laughed. I decided to keep going and help him out. " I am on the swim team, I have an older brother and a younger brother. Two cats. A bazillion fish."
He tipped his head in acknowlegement. "Good to know."
"My turn. So you guys are in Chicago to be on Oprah?"
"Yeah. Well, we taped it earlier this week. The rest of this week we've just been site seeing and stuff like that." He looked away and messed with something on the ground. When he looked back up he had a funny look on his face. "Favorite color."
"At the moment? Sea green." I lifted my chin. "Favorite movie?"
"August Rush. Favorite actor?"
"Don't have one. Favorite TV show?"
"Lost" He smirked at me and raised and eyebrow, challenging me. " Favorite Jonas Brother?"
I smiled wickedly at him. "Joe." I giggled as he took off his hat and chucked it, hitting me in the face. I took it and put it on my head. "You're not getting it back. It's mine now." I grabbed his sunglasses and put them on. "How do I look?" I pushed the glasses down so I could see over them and struck a pose.
"Like a sick, homeless puppy." He smiled at me, an innocent smile.
"Haha very funny." I sat back against the wall and pushed the glasses back up on my face. "Favorite girl from Naperville, Nick?"
"Emily." He laughed
"Hey, you don't even know what she looks like!" I tried to sound hurt, but I was overcome by laughter.
"Most embarrasing moment." He ran his hands through his hair.
"Don't make fun of me. Okay." I looked at him seriously. "
"I'll try. It depends on what they are though. I can't promise anything."
"It's a toss up between the time I was waitressing for the valentines dinner at my church and set the bread basket on fire and the time I accidently got stuck in an airplane bathroom because I didn't see the sign that said pull and I thought you were supposed to push."
Nick's laughter echoed down the halls. My laughter joined his. "That's pretty bad, I'm not going to lie to you."
"Yeah, well, thats life." My laughter subsided and I looked him in the eyes, still wearing his glasses. "Best moment ever."
"You're going to think I'm crazy." He was looking me straight in the eye, his face completely serious. I took off his glasses and my heart stopped beating.
"No I won't." At my words he hesitated, giving me a questioning look. Then he continued.
"When I saw you at the meet and greet after our concert here. When you touched my hand." His beautiful face held complete honestly. His eyes held vulernablitiy. It was hard for him, I could tell. For once in my life I was speechless. I just sat there, staring at him in disbelief.
He did not just say that. It was way too good to be true. I must have made it up in my head. He couldn't have said that. He just couldn't have----could he?
