“Hey Boston” he said watching her tuck the stray hairs behind her ear that were falling from her cap.

She tilted her head, giving a half smile response, flushing with embarassment. “Hey”

“So, you got a name?” he asked watching the smile tugging at the corners of her mouth slowly curve upward.

“Yeah, I’m Niki” she said, extending out her hand.

Taking it, he responded, “Hey Niki, I’m Joe. What brings you here?”

Finally releasing from his tight grip, her eyes flickered downward.

“Oh, just vacationing. You?” she reciprocated.

“Same. Taking a break. Who are you here with?” Joe asked, as he watched her head tilt upwards, exposing the sun reflecting off the specs in her hazel eyes. She wasn’t wearing any makeup, but it made her more beautiful. Joe loved a girl who was confident and gorgeous enough to step out without any manufactured help.

“Just me” she said softly. “And my book”

He laughed, causing her to expose the smile that he had admired in the elevator.

“What about you” she asked, starting them into more conversation.

“Family. My parents and my brothers, and their girlfriends.” He scoffed.

Niki laughed. “What about yours?” she questioned, feeling slightly embarassed by her fowardness.

“Pssh, I’m a ladies man.” He said throwing his shoulders forward.

“Righhht” she dragged out, making fun of him.

The two bickered back and forth, tossing jokes around, and making light conversation. When Niki cracked open her book again, he got the hint and told her he was going to lay out and soak up the rays, if she didn’t mind. She shook her head, giving him the okay, and began to dive deep into the novel craddled in her hands. Finally getting bored, she tabbed the page she had stopped at, put the book by her side, and lay back to get some color.

When the sun started to fade, Joe sat up and looked at Niki.

“Wanna grab some dinner with me tonight?” he asked, praying she would say okay.

“Why not” she said with a smile playing on her face, “Just let me go change?”

After setting a meeting time, Niki ran back to her room to take a quick refreshing shower. Washing the sand from earlier off of her body, she stepped out of the shower and wrapped the towel around herself. She stood in front of the hotel closet, finger to her chin, thinking hard. She hadn’t expected to go to dinner with anyone, so she didn’t have many fancy things. She knew she had to keep it casual, afterall it was what she had packed.

“WAIT!” she hollered out to herself.

Skipping over to her bag, she remembered a simple black top she packed for dinner. But she hadn’t unpacked it because the thought of her dressed up and eating alone made her stomach flip. Pulling it out she smiled with satisfaction and quickly got dressed. She hadn’t brought heels, but she did bring some black patent flats  that matched her top perfectly. Throwing on a denim skirt, she put some light eyeshadow and eyeliner on, ran a comb through her hair, and stood back giving herself a lookover in the mirror. Content, she flew out the door, not wanting to be late, and over to the elevator. When she reached the lobby floor, the doors opened and Joe stood before her.

His eyes grew big and his smile grew wide.

“Niki, wow” was all he could stutter out.

Reaching out his hand, she took it as the butterflies in her stomach fluttered furiously. The two made their way over to the simple restaurant extending out onto the beach from the resort. Joe had made reservations earlier and they were seated in a romantic booth, next to the window, with a view of the moon reflecting off the ocean.

As the appetizers came out, the two of them began talking, Joe asked Niki about her childhood, and what she was doing with her life. She wasn’t too sure herself, but told him as much as she could. There was something about his effort that kept tugging at her heart strings.

“What about you Joe” she asked after she finished telling him how she ended up where she was.

“Well, I’m a rockstar” he said, leaning back in his chairs and crossing his arms.

Niki didn’t care how embarassed she was about to be, but even though she tried to fight back the laughter with all her might, she spewed her water all over him when she let out a roaring laugh.

“Seriously” he said a little hurt.

“I know, I know.” She laughed, “I’m the Queen of England too.” Her eyes welling up from tears of laughter.

Before he could get another word out, a stick thin, beach blonde girl sauntered her way over to their table. Her orange tan was glowing and Niki swore she saw her butt hanging from under her micro mini denim skirt.

“Oh… my… gosh” she said catching her breath. “Joe Jonas! Can I like… totally get your autograph?”

Nodding his head, he agreed as the fan girl pulled out a pen, and he quickly scribbled his name on a napkin. The girl squealed when he handed it to her, and her eyes shot to Niki, back to Joe, then to Niki again.

“Is that you’re girlfriend” she said smacking obnoxiously on her gum.

“No, that’s Niki” he smiled. “She’s from Boston”

Being polite, Niki smiled at the girl who rolled her eyes in response. Smacking her gum some more, she turned on her heels and left the two alone.

“You weren’t kidding” she said, her jaw still glued to the table.

“Told you” he said winking back.

So she questioned how his fame came about, and he told her everything. From his brothers and broadway, to Nick being offered a contract, to it turning into a group project. From there they signed on with a record label but ended up getting dropped. Niki nodded her head after every comment, intrigued by the way his life formed, stuffing pasta in her mouth and chewing slowly in admiration as he spoke. He continued with how they were picked up and from there everything just skyrocketed. Niki laughed when he told her about Hannah Montana, she was a huge fan, even at her older age.

She went off quoting her favorite lines like a 10 year old, Joe laughed, and watched the way her lips moved, and light from the candle shimmered in her hair.

After dinner, Joe walked her back to her room. They stood close to eachother, as another awkward silence wrapped around their bodies in the air. She smiled, glancing down at her toes as she wiggled them nervously again. Putting his finger gently under her chin and tilting her head upward to meet his gaze, she felt her heart beat out of her chest. Her lips trembled as he leaned forward and brushed his against hers. She let herself get lost in the kiss, leaning in to kiss him back, her lips tingling from the sensation of the connection they shared. When he finally released, he stepped back, his cheeks burning red.

“Hanging tomorrow?” he asked her.

Before she could respond, her mouth unable to move from the numb sensation taking over them, he winked and answered for her.

“K. Good. I’ll see you at the pool in the morning”

The next morning, she woke up early, making sure she had plenty of time to get ready. But she realized there wasn’t much to do. She was a simple girl, so after throwing on her swim suit, lathering up in suntan lotion, and picking out a clean towel. She slid her feet into her well worn sandals, threw her hair up in a messy bun, and grabbed her beaten up Red Sox cap.

She skipped down the hallway, finding the elevator, and dashed towards the pool. Once she hit the doors, she slowed down, and slowly strutted outdoors making sure she looked calm and collected.

Joe had been out earlier with his brother, Kevin, and his girlfriend. The three of them relaxed in some nearby lounge chairs, soaking up the rays. Kevin had already started burning, and Joe was eager to slap a hand onto his brothers red arms. As he lifted his hand and Kevin began to shout, he stopped midair as he caught a glimpse of Niki.

She was slowly walking over, her eyes scanning the pool and all the chairs. He watched the breeze tangle in her hair, her eyes sparkling, and he could feel her lips on his from the night before. Not able to hold it any longer, he jumped up flailing his arms around and started to holler.

“Niki! Niki! Over here!” as everyone turned to stare at him.

She saw him looking rediculous and laughed to herself. Making her way over she was greeted with a tight hug, and two strangers standing before her.

“Niki, this is Kev” he said as Kevin reached out to shake her hand.

“Joe, she’s prettier than you made her out to be” Ray cut in.

“RAY!” he screamed, his face flushed and burried in his hands.

“I’m just kidding Joe. I’m Ray, Kevin’s girlfriend, it’s nice to meet you. And he spoke highly of you. I just like teasing him” she said pulling her into a friendly hug.

When she released Joe punched her in the arm which she allowed, but Joe was stunned when she pushed him into the pool in return. Screaming out at her, everyone laughed and a mischevious grin grew on his face as he climbed out. Niki noticed and her eyes grew big as she drapped her towel over the chair Joe had been laying on.

“Joe…” she said nervously.

“Heyyy Niki” he mumbled out as he crept closer to her.

Pulling her into a giant soaking hug he let out an evil laugh as she screamed.

“JooooOOOOee!!” directly into his ear.

Still tight in his grip, she pushed him forward and the two of them fell back into the deep end of the pool together. Emerging from the surface of the water, still holding on to her, Joe pulled her in and fiercly placed a kiss on her lips. When he let go, she was left stunned and out of breath. Swimming away, she remained where she was and watched as he threw his muscular arms into the water. When she finally came-to, she climbed out and grabbed a towel.

“Let’s do the beach” he said throwing all of her stuff into a bag and tugging on her arm.

Before she had a chance to answer him, she found her toes digging deep into the sand with her sandals in her hand. Joe layed out a giant blanket and threw her things down. Smiling, he stretched his arms above head and lay out to take a nap beneath the beaming rays. Following his lead, she too decided to lay out. Instead of napping, she opted to grab her book from the previous day, get comfortable on her stomach, and with a book in one hand, she let her other hand play with the curls that were slowly drying on Joe’s head.

The days slowly lulled by, and Niki was indulging herself in every minute of it. Every second of everyday for the rest of the week was spent with Joe. He was at her room when she was ready to start the day, he was with her hand in hand during each and every elevator ride, and they always shared a blanket on the beach.

When their last night was upon them, Joe crept up to Niki’s room and demanded that he spend it with her. So the two of them rolled into her tiny bed, and he scratched her back until he heard the soft and steady breathing that indicated she had finally fallen asleep. Draping his arm over her, he too fell asleep within moments.

The sun came in strong through the curtains the next morning, and Niki whined when the warmth heated up her face. Joe was sitting up, a tray in his lap adorned with plates of goodies.

“I ordered breakfast” he whispered as she rubbed her eyes.

“You’re too perfect” she whispered back as she placed a soft kiss on his cheek.

For the next hour the two of them sat in silence as they munched on the flavorful items Joe had sent up to the room. When he shot a look at the clock, he groaned, and told her it was time for him to leave. Not wanting to see him go for the last time, she offered to help him pack. He refused, telling her that it was unnecessary and she asked if it was okay to say goodbye in the lobby. Kissing the tip of her nose, he nodded, then walked out of the room.

The rest of the morning was slow, she dragged herself into the shower, and threw on some jeans, and the tshirt Joe had let her borrow a few days before. The scent of his cologne was still woven through the fabric and she smiled inhaling the memories from the week.

When it was time, she shuffled over to the elevator and was graced with the presence of her favorite boy.

“Hey stranger” she said stepping inside.

“I’m running late” he said smiling back, “but now I know it was perfect timing”

Pulling her into a tight embrace, they waited for the bell to ding and they stepped off. Over by the doors, his family had been waiting with their bags circled around them. They stood still, holding both of her hands he watched as a single tear drifted down her face.

“This has been the best week of my life” she started, trying hard to hold back the rest of he tears.

“Mine too” he said through a whimper.

Niki glanced over his shoulder and watched another curly haired boy and a girl clinging to his arm walk in their direction. Tapping Joe on the shoulder he spoke.

“Joe we need to go” he said in his soft voice.

Turning around Joe gave them his best puppy dog eyes.

“Hey Erica” he said when he saw her attatched to his brothers side. “Nick, I’ll be there in a minute”

Nodding their heads, the both walked off back towards the group.

Letting out a heavy sigh, he turned back to face Niki.

“I hate to leave you” he said pulling her in, and letting her head rest on his chest.

“When am I ever going to see you again?” she cried.

Putting his hands on her shoulders and pushing her outward , he looked dead into her eyes.

“I’ll look for you in Boston” and placed a deep, passionate kiss on her lips.

Their mouths met and Niki felt a tingle run through her spine, her knees felt weak and she threw her arms around him.

“See you in Boston” she whispered into his ear, placing a final kiss on his cheek, and watched as he turned and left the lobby.
