-Chapter 5-Re: Look After You [Joe FF] sequel to spring break roadtrip
-Chapter 5-

Two weeks later, Kevin and Courteney finally were the last ones to go home. Nick and Danika had gone back to Baton Rouge a week earlier so they wouldn’t miss anymore school. Cherie and Joe were finally alone. Joe had decided to take some time off from the studio to focus more on Cherie and their marriage because he knew that some of their problems stemmed from him not being home enough.

Cherie was in the living room looking at a newborn outfit she’d bought 2 weeks before the accident. She hadn’t known what the sex of their baby was so she had gotten a little yellow jumper. It was the only piece of clothing their baby had had.

She was startled when Joe came into the kitchen through the back door that led to the guest house. He busied himself getting a bottle of water from the refrigerator before joining her in the living room.

“What is that?” he asked as he sat down next to her on the couch.

“I bought this for the baby 2 weeks before the accident,” she said handing the jumper to Joe.

She sighed and leaned back into Joe’s chest. He slid an arm around her and said, “I won’t let you feel guilty about this – you should’ve told me, but it is NOT your fault that we lost the baby.”

“I know…I just wish I could go back and go ahead and tell you even though I was scared.”

Suddenly Joe jumped up and held out his hand. “Do you want to go the park with me?”

“Sure…and do what?” she asked taking his hand.

Just hang out, talk, ya know –“

When they got to the park Joe got a blanket out of the back of his Prius. He took Cherie’s hand and led her over to a tree where he putt heir blanket. She sat down and leaned up against the tree and Joe laid down on the blanket next to her.

Joe played with the wedding ring on Cherie’s finger. She didn’t have an engagement ring because they’d eloped so suddenly. They’d just gotten matching rings rings with the inscription “Mon cœur est a vous” which was French for “My heart of yours”.

“What did you want to do with your life before you met me?” he asked.

“I wanted to be a writer,” she said.

He looked up at her – “I didn’t know that.”

“I always got into trouble for crazy outbursts when I was younger so I just got everything out by writing. Then when we were 16, I had written this short story and Danika and Courteney stole it and submitted it to this writers’ magazine in New Orleans and they actually published it.

“Wow,” he said, “I’d really like to read it. You should start writing again – why did you stop?”

“Well, when we met you guys everything just sorta went crazy – you swept me off my feet and then the whole Jack thing happened. All I wanted to do when I got back home was finish the last 6 weeks of school and get back to you. And then we got married in July and bought our house in our here so you could work in the studio while the guys were taking a break.”

They were silent for a while enjoying the sunshine and cool breeze.

“Maybe I will start writing again,” she said after a while. “And what about you Joe?”

“What about me?” he asked, smiling.

“What would you want to do if you weren’t a musician…doctor? Mathematician?”

He laughed, “Uh…heck no! Definitely something making people laugh…I love the sound of people laughing. To me, laughter is just pure happiness. Okay my turn.” He rolled over onto his side and propped his head up on his hand. “What is your favorite food?”

She laughed, “Um…okay random question. Let me think…probably…I don’t have an exact favorite food but I love Thai food.”

“I like hamburgers which you make me almost every weekend and I don’t thank you for enough. Tell me about your childhood.”

“Well as long as I can remember it’s always been Danika and Courteney and me…well after Court was finally born that is. But yeah it’s always been the 3 of us. None of us have any siblings so we’ve kinda been like sisters all these years.”

They sat in silence again as the wind picked up blowing Cherie’s trademark hat off. Ever since she and Joe had been together, she never went anywhere without some sort of hat. At first it was because she didn’t want to be recognized when she was out but now she had acquired a taste for hats and loved them. She had one for every occasion.

Joe jumped up and ran after it having to run about 25 ft to catch up with it. Cherie was laughing when he sat back down beside her and presented her with her hat.

“Thank you kindly, sir,” she said in a Southern Belle accent.

‘You’re very welcome my lady,” he replied taking her hand and kissing the top of it.

“So tell me,” Cherie said,” about when you were a kid.”

He lay down with his head on her lap and she played with his hair as he began a story.

“When we were little, we moved around a lot because my dad would move churches and we moved from Arizona to Texas when I was like a year old. Then Nick was born when we lived in Texas and then we moved to New Jersey and Frankie was born. Man, Kevin and I had to share a room when we were younger.”

“Oh my…neat Kevin with your not so tidy butt?” Cherie asked, laughing.

“Yeah,” he said, “and I swear he wanted to kill me every night because I would play my music so loud before we went to bed and I was so hyper.”

“Um…baby nothing has really changed…”

He tickled her legs and she squealed begging him to stop. When he finally stopped, they both realized it was getting late as the sun sank lower in the sky. They gathered up their things and Joe laced his fingers with Cherie’s as they made their way back to the car. He opened her car door but stopped her before she got in. He slowly leaned in and kissed her. It was a short kiss, but it meant the world to both of them because it was the first kiss they had shared since Joe had moved to the guest house. He leaned in closer to her ear and said, “Thanks for the date.”

She smiled and got into the car.

It had been over a month since Joe had moved into the guest house and they had been going on “dates” regularly. They were both seeing real progress in their communication. Joe had called Danika and Courteney and asked their opinions on what kind of ring she would want. He had decided that he wanted to ask her to marry him again in front of their family since Thanksgiving was nearing. Then he wanted to give her the wedding ceremony she’d never had. They had both advised him to get a princess cut Sapphire solitaire. He now had the ring hidden away in suitcase.

Cherie was packing her things to fly to Nashville for Thanksgiving at Kevin’s house. Everyone was having Thanksgiving there that year and she and Danika would be staying at Courteney’s apartment that was close to his house.

As she was looking in the closet for a couple of outfits to take, Joe waltzed into the room and threw himself facedown in the middle of the bed with a big sigh.

“And what’s the matter with you?” Cherie asked.

“I hate packing,” was his muffled reply as his face was still pushed into the comforter.

Suddenly his head turned and he asked, “So what are you doing tonight?”

“I don’t know,” she said popping her head out of the closet to look at him, “What am I doing tonight?”

“Well tonight your husband is going to take you to your favorite Thai restaurant.”

She ran out of the closet and looked down at him as he laid on his back. She leaned down and gave him an upside down kiss.

“Somehow I knew you’d like that,” he said smiling up at her.

It was almost 6 so they decided to go ahea dna go eat. They didn’t know what they would be doing after so Cherie just wore a pair of dark skinny jeans, a pair of yellow pointy toed flats, a sleeveless red tunic that tied around the waist, and of course her favorite gray hat with her strawberry blond hair down and wavy. Joe had on a pair of skinny jeans, white sneakers, and an olive green button up shirt.

After the waitress took their orders, Joe excused himself to go to the bathroom. Suddenly, the table began to vibrate and they song “Cry Me a River” rang out from Joe’s phone. Cherie picked it up and read the caller id. It said “A.J. Michalka”. She knew A.J. was one of Joe’s ex-girlfriends and wondered why she would be calling.

Re: -Chapter 5-Re: Look After You [Joe FF] sequel to spring break roadtrip
Hey guys! Double post today! I've been busy! I hope you like it and I might write more tonight but I can't promise anything because I've gotta work.

-Chapter 6-

The caller id on Joe’s phone “A.J. Michalka”

“Hello?” Cherie answered.

“Uh…do I have the right phone number? Is this Joe’s phone?” A.J. asked.

“Yeah,” Cherie said, “he’s in the restroom right now – I’m Cherie.”

“Oh Cherie!” A.J. exclaimed, “Joe’s wife. How are you? I don’t believe that we’ve met.”

Joe walked out of the bathroom then and asked, “Who is it?”

“Joe just got back so I’ll give him the phone,” Cherie told A.J. “It was nice talking to you.”

She handed the phone to Joe.

“Hello?” he said.

“Joseph!” A.J. yelled into the phone.

“A.J., hi…wow I haven’t heard from you in a while. How are things? How’s Aly?” he asked.

“She’s great and we are amazing! I just wanted to tell you that we’re in LA and we’re doing a small show at a little club downtown tonight. You and Cherie should stop by if you’re not doing anything tonight.”

Well I’ll run that by her and we’ll call you in a bit and let you know. We’re at Thai Spice right now.”

“Okay, have a good dinner,” she replied before they both hung up.

“So what were you going to run by me?” Cherie asked taking a drink of her iced tea.

“Well, she and Aly are having a small concert tonight downtown and we haven’t seen each other in a while and she asked if we wanted to go hang out.”

“Oh, well that sounds like fun,” Cherie said.

After they finished eating, they drove downtown to the club. They stood outside for a little while so Joe could sign some autographs and some fans stopped by to give their condolences about the baby and Cherie’s accident. So far, the fans hadn’t really said anything to their faces but the girls tonight seemed genuine about their concern for Cherie and it really touched her.

Once inside, they headed backstage. First, they saw Aly who was picking over the food that was set up backstage.

“Joe!” she squealed as soon as she saw them and ran over to hug him. Then, she hugged Cherie and said, “You must be Cherie! We were so sorry to hear about your accident but I’m so glad you’re okay. You look great! Oh and I’m Aly!”

Cherie laughed at her nonstop chatter. “Yes, I’m Cherie and thank you – that was really tough but when you’re a Jonas you’ve got a pretty great support system.”

Cherie smiled up at Joe and put an arm around his waist.

Just then, A.J. came in from the stage and saw them.

“Joseph Jonas!” she yelled. She quickly walked over and pulled Joe into a tight hug. Their hug went on a little too long for Cherie’s liking and after Joe pulled away, A.J. kissed his cheek.

She stuck her hand out to Cherie and said, “Hi, I’m A.J.” while still looking at Joe.

“A.J. this is my wife, Cherie,” Joe said.

“Aly! It’s time to go on stage!” A.J. said ignoring Joe’s introduction.

“Hope you enjoy the concert!” Aly said to them as she followed A.J. onto the stage.

“Um…what was that all about?” Cherie asked Joe, “she was a little rude.”

“Oh, she was probably just preoccupied with the show. It’s always a little tense right before you go on stage, ya know,” Joe replied.

They watched the concert from backstage and when it was over, Aly and A.J. were exhausted. They all sat around talking for a while. A.J. only talked to Aly and Joe and never once talked to Cherie. Cherie couldn’t understand what her problem was. Cherie’s cell phone rang and she used that as an excuse to leave the room. She went into the bathroom to answer the call from Danika.

“Hey Dan,” she said, answering her phone.

“Hey girl, what are you up to?” Danika asked.

“Well it turns out that Aly and A.J. Michalka are in town and they were doing a small concert and invited us.”

“Oh, that’s cool…wait, didn’t Joe date one of them last year?”

“Yeah, he dated A.J. but they broke up around Christmas time last year. She is acting really weird though. She ignores me and only talks to Joe and Aly. She is acting like I’m not even sitting there. I really want to leave.”

“You should tell Joe you want to leave then. I’m sure he notices the weirdness too. Hey listen, I’ll let you get back to them but call me later and let me know what happens. And I’ll see you in a couple of days!”

“Okay girl,” Cherie said.

They hung up and Cherie turned to go back to the group.

When Cherie got her phone call, Aly also got called away by a crew member with a question leaving Joe and A.J. alone.

“So how long have you and Cherie been together?” A.J. asked him.

“Uh…about 8 months now I guess,” he replied.

“Wow,” A.J. said, ‘You didn’t waste any time did you?”

“Well, when you know it’s right, you just know,” Joe smiled.

A.J. moved surprising Joe by sitting down in his lap. He tensed up and said, “A.J….”

She cut him off and whispered into his ear, “Are you sure she isn’t just a rebound from me?”

At that moment, Cherie emerged from the bathroom, taking in the scene before her.

As soon as Joe saw her, he stood up holding his hands in the air. A.J. fell off of his lap onto the floor.

“Cherie, this isn’t what it looks like,” Joe said, urgently.

“No,” Cherie said, shaking her head, “I can’t do this right now.”

She ran out of the club with Joe on her heels. She already had her keys out and was in their car with the car in reverse by the time he got there.

“Cherie wait!” he yelled as the paparazzi cameras flashed around him. The fans on the street stared just as he did as Cherie continued down the street in his Prius.

He went back inside full of anger toward A.J. who he found backstage sitting on the couch.

“What do you think you were doing?” he yelled angrily.

“I was just asking you a simple friendly question,” she said, smiling at him. “Joe, we were so good together, you can’t deny that. The only reason we broke up was because of our schedules.”

“Um…as I recall,” Joe replied sarcastically, “is that we broke up because you couldn’t keep your lips from falling on…who’s was it again? Let’s see…Zac Efron, Jesse McCartney…Kevin? Whatever – you are nothing to me now. I tried to be friends with you but you may very well have just cost me my marriage.”

Joe pulled out his cell phone and tried to call Cherie. It rang once and went straight to voice mail. He left her a message.

“Baby, please pick up your phone. I’m so sorry, it wasn’t what it looked like. She just sat on my lap and it surprised me and you walked out when it had just happened…before I had time to react. Please baby you have to believe me. I love you.” He hung up and then called for a cab to drive him home.

When Cherie got home, she was sure her makeup was streaked from crying but she didn’t take the time to fix it. She threw the rest of her clothes and toiletries into her suitcase and drove to the airport. She bought a red-eye flight to Nashville that was leaving in 20 minutes. Once she boarded, she finally looked at her phone.

Fifteen missed calls from Joe – and just as many messages. There were also about ten messages…the last of which wondering where she was.

She ignored them all and called Courteney.

“What a jerk!” Courteney exclaimed when she had told her the whole story. “Well don’t worry about a thing. Just call me when you get to the airport and I’ll come get you.”

Cherie then, settled in for the 4 hour flight to Nashville.

Re: -Chapter 5-Re: Look After You [Joe FF] sequel to spring break roadtrip
Ok guys...first of all..on a side note - I have NOTHING against A.J. Michalka...I just needed an antagonist and she happened to fit the bill. So no hard feelings? Hope you like the new chapter!

-Chapter 7-

When Cherie landed in Nashville, she was just as upset as when she left LA. She called Courteney when she entered the airport and Courteney was there within 20 minutes. She burst into tears whenever she and Courteney were finally in the car. She looked down at her phone and saw that there were 10 more missed calls from Joe.

“Just let it out,” Courteney said soothingly as she drove back to her apartment. “And don’t worry about Kevin telling Joe that you’re here. I will threaten him within an inch of his life if he tells him.”

Cherie gave a weak smile. “Listen, I thought we were doing really well. He hasn’t moved back into the house yet but things were great. I mean, we were just talking all the time and telling each other our feelings. How could he do this to me? She comes back to him and I get dropped like a hot potato. I can’t compare to her.”

Courteney pulled into the apartment complex and stopped suddenly turning to look at Cherie. “Now you stop that right now. You are so much better than she is. If he didn’t think so would he be calling you so much to say he was sorry? Or would he be trying to make your marriage work? – You think about that. And don’t even think about moping around on Thanksgiving because we are going to have a great time and you and Joe will work things out somehow – but he has some explaining to do definitely.”

“Thanks,” Cherie said hugging Courteney.

“All right, now let’s get inside and go to sleep because we’ve got a busy day tomorrow making the house look all Thanksgiving festive!”

-The Next Day- (LA)

Joe hadn’t slept a wink the night before because he was too worried about where Cherie was. He knew that she’s either gone to Courteney’s in Nashville or Danika’s in Baton Rouge. Now he just had to figure out which one.

First he called Danika.

“Hey,” he said when she answered.

“Joe…what do you want?” she asked.

“I wanted to see if Cherie was with you. I’ve been trying to call her all night and she won’t pick up her phone.”

“Well what did you do to her?” Danika asked even though she knew Cherie was in Nashville.

“I didn’t do anything,” Joe said, exasperated.

“Well if you didn’t do anything then why did she leave?” she asked, loving to make Joe squirm.

“Is she there or not, Dan?”

“Not.”

He hung up and quickly called Courteney.

“Hey…” he said timidly when Courteney answered the phone.

When there was a long pause, Courteney asked, “What’s the matter…cat got your tongue? Oh wait…that’s A.J. Michalka.”

“That was low,” he said softly.

“Yeah well letting your ex-girlfriend sitn on your lap in front of your wife that you’re just dating is low – and really doesn’t make that much sense if you’re not intimate with the situation. Remind me never to talk about this outside of our family.”

“Well is she there?” he asked, tired of the conversation going in circles.

“Nope,” was her curt lie.

“Wait a minute, she’s got to be either there or at Danika’s and I’ve already called her and Cherie isn’t there.”

“Oh really? Well then maybe you should go look for her.”

She hung up on Joe.

He said down on the couch staring at the phone and silently cursing his wife’s best friends. He then smacked his own forehead when he realized he should have been calling his brothers instead of them.

He called Nick first.

“Hey man, do you happen to know where Cherie is? There’s been some sort of misunderstanding and I sorta need to explain,” Joe told Nick.

“Does this misunderstanding involve A.J. Michalka?” Nick asked.

“Can’t girls freaking keep things to themselves?” Joe yelled into the phone.

“Um..nope I don’t think they can. But seriously dude, she isn’t here.”

“Okay thanks man,” Joe said before hanging up.

Joe then called Kevin.

“Hey Joe, what’s up man?” Kevin said answering his phone.

“Hey Kev…have you by any chance seen Cherie?”

“Umm…I cannot confirm or deny if in fact she is or isn’t here.”

“Meaning Courteney told you not to tell me,” Joe translated.

“I cannot confirm or deny if in fa - ” Kevin started.

“Okay fine I get it!” Joe interrupted. “So she’s there and you’re not supposed to tell me.”

“So when should I expect you?” Kevin asked, laughing.

“This afternoon…I’m heading to the airport after I throw the rest of my stuff in my suitcase”

They hung up and Joe packed the rest of his things. He drove to the airport and boarded a plan to Nashville.

After Joe got off the plane, he rented a car and his first stop was Courteney’s apartment. He rang the buzzer to her apartment from the outside of the buildling and a voice came through the speaker.

“Hello?”

“Courteney…it’s me. Is she up there?”

“If by ‘me’ you mean a lying cheating piece of crap...then, hey Joe, how’s it going?”

“Okay, funny funny…laugh it up. Can I just see my wife please?”

Courteney looked out her window and saw him standing out on the street. Cherie moved over to next to her and saw him too. Tears formed in her eyes. She loved him and wanted to forgive him but she was so hurt about seeing him so close to A.J. She felt like she could never live up to A.J. and that Joe was just settling for second best.

She went over to the microphone and said, “Joe, go back home – or to Kevin’s. I can’t talk to you right now.”

Hearing Cherie’s voice made his heart beat a little bit faster.

“Oh baby, please let me come up…let me explain everything to you.”

His requests were met with silence. Finally after waiting for 20 minutes, he got back into the rental car. Cherie looked down from the window at him. For one split second he looked up at the window and their eyes met. She quickly moved away from the window and flopped down on the couch.

“Ugh.,” she groaned. “Why does everything have to be so difficult?”

“Pain lets us know that we’re alive, right?” Courteney asked.

“Thanks a lot, Court,” she said, rolling her eyes.

Joe drove to Kevin’s house and was immediately met by his brother who was lounging on the front porch.

“It’s about time you got here,” Kevin said giving Joe a hug.

“Well I had to make a little pit stop to see my girl even though she didn’t want to see me. At least I know where she is now.”

They went inside so Joe could put his things in a guest bedroom. When he was done, he went back downstairs where Kevin was cooking dinner.

“Who are you cooking for?” Joe asked popping one of the carrots from the counter into his mouth.

“This is actually a meal for you and Courteney to eat tonight. – if you two can last that long without killing each other. I figured I’d take Cherie out to that new sushi place in town.”

“And tell me why we are switching girls? Kevin, I thought you were against the whole sharing thing,” Joe said smiling.

“Well, I figured I out to at least try to help your sorry butt…seeing as I know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of unwanted A.J. attention.”

“Well hopefully it will work…thank you so much man,” Joe said patting Kevin on the back.

When Courteney told Cherie that Kevin would be taking her out that night, she just rolled her eyes.

Courteney laughed, “He just wants to tell you a few things – that’s all.”

The girls got ready for their “dates” and went over to Kevin’s.

Re: -Chapter 5-Re: Look After You [Joe FF] sequel to spring break roadtrip
Ok so once again...I have nothing against A.J. Michalka - I'm sure she's very nice - just not in my story lol. And the poem/lyrics in this chapter are from a song called "One Way or Another" by Kate Voegele. Thanks for the comment beautiful_dreamer! I'm glad you like it! Enjoy!

-Chapter 8-

While Courteney and Cherie were getting ready for their “dates”, Courteney came across a piece of paper by Cherie’s suitcase. She read it.

You think I'm so dramatic, just imagining again
You come to her defense, insisting that she's innocent

Well excuse me for wanting to be the one and only lock to fit your key
You believe there's nothing up her sleeve, but baby just wait and see
You say that love is blind, well I say open up your eyes
She's a mastermind, she'd cheat and lie to get you to love her
Who's the victim if it doesn't make a difference now?
I'll be gone one way or another.

“Cherie, what’s this?” Courteney asked, holding it up.

“Just something I wrote on the plane on the way here,” Cherie said, trying to get her hair to lay flat.

“I didn’t know you’d started writing again…I love it!” Courteney said, joining her in the bathroom. “Do you mind if I borrow it? Or maybe we could work on it this weekend? I’ve got this melody in my head and I love what you wrote. I’m trying to get some material together to start my cd hopefully..cross your fingers!”

“Yeah! I think that’s the best thing I’ve written in a long time…let’s work on it tonight…I’ll work on some more words and you get us a melody,” Cherie said, smiling at Courteney.

“Sweet!” Courteney squealed.

When they arrived at Kevin’s house, Cherie was so nervous. This was the first time she would be face to face with Joe after the incident with A.J. They got out of the car and Cherie felt like her feet wouldn’t move. Courteney went around to her side and took her hand.

“Don’t worry,” she told Cherie, “you’ll only have to see him for a second. And don’t forget, Nick and Danika will be here tonight – and we can talk everything out.”

Courteney led Cherie to the door. Joe was looking out the window at her and his heart sped up. When Courteney opened the door, Joe was standing in front of them.

“Hey,” Joe said as they walked in. “I’ve missed you so much,” he said, moving to hug her.

She tensed up, nervous from being so close to him.

“Joe,” Kevin said coming into the foyer and hugging Courteney. “Stop horning in on my date.”

Cherie let out the breath she’d been holding as Joe backed away a little.

“Well, hope you kids like the dinner I made,” Kevin said to Courteney and Joe. “We’ll see you in a while.”

Courteney waved to Kevin and Cherie while Joe stared silently as they closed the door behind them.

“Well that was refreshing,” Courteney joked, walking into the dining room. “Cherie not saying a word. I don’t think that’s ever happened before.”

“Well hopefully what Kevin tells her will help out and she will forgive me,” Joe said following her.

“Look Joe, I know we’ve given you a hard time for the past few months – most of it deserving – but Danika and I really do love you and we know that you and Cherie are right for each other. I think that maybe sometimes your selfish tendencies come out because you’re not used to having someone else to answer to. It’s just going to take some time – and a lot of graveling – to make sure that she knows how much she means to you.”

He hugged Courteney and said, “Thanks Courteney, that really means a lot to me.”

“Okay now that we’ve got that settled,” she said, “let’s grab some of this food and go see what movies Kevin is hiding in the den.”

-Kevin and Cherie-

After they were seated at Kevin’s favorite sushi restaurant, he sat back in his seat and starred at Cherie.

“Okay, I’ll bite,” she said. “What ‘things’ do you have to tell me?”

“First, you tell me why you and Joe are fighting…” he said.

“Okay why are you asking me when you clearly already know?” she asked, annoyed.

“Because I want to hear it in your own words,” he replied.

Just then, their food came. Picking up her chopsticks, Cherie began, “Okay well basically, I went into the bathroom and when I came back out, A.J. was sitting on Joe’s lap whispering something into this ear. And Joe jumped up, said nothing was going on, and tried to explain. A.J just stood there smiling at me. I wouldn’t have thought anything about it except that earlier he had been defending her when I told him I thought she was being rude to me. He has a history with her, Kevin – a recent history.”

Kevin reached over and placed his hand over Cherie’s on the table. “Cherie, let me tell you something that happened to me. I know firsthand what happened to Joe. While he was dating A.J. she had come to visit us on tour. She’d come onto the tour bus while I was there by myself. Everything happened so fast, but all of a sudden she pushed me up against the side of a bunk and started kissing me…then Joe walked in. By that time, though, he’d forgiven her so many times for cheating that it was the last straw and he finally broke up with her.”

“Well that doesn’t tell me that he wasn’t in love with her still and wanting her back,” Cherie said.

“Cherie! Listen to me here,” Kevin said, raising his voice. “The boy has been moping around my house all last night and today! And he was trilled at the prospect of seeing you today even though it was only for a second. And girl, he flew across the country to try to find you and made it through talking to two tough girls just to find out where you were.”

“He’s pretty amazing,” Cherie agreed. “I knew he hadn’t really cheated, Kevin. I’m just so scared. I hate being on the rocks with our marriage. It kinda shook me and told me how real our problems were when I saw them together. I mean, he could’ve easily said yes to her advances. He lives in the guest house. How would I have known if he was gone?”

“That’s just it,” Kevin replied. “He didn’t say yes. He chose you. He loves you, Cherie, and he will do anything to get you back.”

Cherie smiled. “There’s that smile we’ve been missing,” Kevin said. “Now let’s pay the check and go pick up Nick and Danika at the airport. Then we can get you back to Joe.”

They picked up Nick and Danika on their way home. The girls sat in the back seat chattering away as the guys talked up front.

“Um…so why were you out with Cherie?” Nick asked, confused. “Are we sharing girls now?”

Kevin rolled his eyes as they pulled into the driveway.

Cherie’s heart beat wildly once again as she walked up the steps of Kevin’s porch. This time, though, she was on a mission. She was looking for her husband. The others stayed back as she walked through the house and found Courteney and Joe watching a movie. She stood in the doorway until they noticed her. Courteney paused the movie as Joe and Cherie silently held each other’s gaze. She excused herself so they could be alone.

Without a word, Cherie crossed the room and climbed onto Joe’s lap. In no time, her lips covered his in the kiss that they’d been waiting for. She pulled back after a minute, catching her break and resting her forehead against his.

“I’m so sorry baby,” Joe said, staring into her eyes.

“Me too,” she replied. “I love you. Let’s not let anything come between us again. And by the way…when we get home your stuff better make its way back to our room..pronto!”

He laughed, wrapping his arms around her and hugging her to him.

“It’s been lonely without you,” she whispered in his ear.

“Finally,” Nick said, walking into the den. “I’ve been listening and that should’ve happened before Danika and I got here.”

He flopped down on the couch next to Joe and Cherie.

They both laughed and Joe reached over to mess with Nick’s mop of curly hair.

The other joined them for the rest of the movie and when it was over, the girls decided it was time to go back to Courteney’s.

“Guys,” Cherie said as Courteney and Danika gathered up their things, “do you think that maybe…”

“Girl, stay with your husband,” Danika said, laughing.

“Yes stay,” Courteney agreed, “but you better have your butt up in the morning to help me cook before all of our parents get here or I’ll go up there and wake you two up myself!”

They all laughed and Courteney and Danika kissed Kevin and Nick goodnight before leaving. The Jonas parents and Frankie would be arriving sometime in the middle of the night because they’d decided to drive. The girls’ parents, however, would be there at about 10 AM.

Re: -Chapter 5-Re: Look After You [Joe FF] sequel to spring break roadtrip
Modified By Courteney on 3/31/2008 5:18:41 PM)

This is the end of this story - but there will be a sequel to this to continue the story of Nick and Danika. So be looking for that in the near future! I'll post a link at the bottom of this thread once I start the next one. Hope you like the ending!

-Chapter 9-

The next morning, the sun shone through the window of the guest bedroom that held Cherie and Joe. Her eyes fluttered open and she saw Joe sleeping peacefully on his side facing her. She moved closer to him trying to stay under the warm covers. As she closed the distance between them, she felt his arms wrap around her as he pulled her closer. Without opening his eyes, he leaned in and kissed her, then nuzzled her neck.

“Good morning baby,” he said with a yawn.

“Good morning husband,” she replied smiling because he never once opened his eyes. Joe wasn’t a morning person and didn’t ever want to be awake enough to open his eyes unless he absolutely had to get up. Cherie grabbed Joe’s arm and looked at his watch – it was 7:15.

She grimaced – she was supposed to be downstairs 15 minutes ago helping to cook the Thanksgiving meal. Suddenly there was a knock at the door before it was flung open and Courteney ran in. She jumped onto the bed as Joe groaned.

“Leave me alone!” he whined when Courteney started bouncing on the bed.

“Wake up lovebirds! We have so much stuff to do! And I need Cherie, now!” Courteney yelled. She grabbed Cherie’s hand to pull her out of bed but Joe grabbed her around the waist refusing to let go.

“No, she’s mine!” he protested. “And I just got her back last night!”

“I don’t care. I saw her first and she was mind first anyway!”

“Actually, I saw her first,” Danika said from the doorway as Cherie squealed. “You weren’t born yet.”

“Ugh, whatever, I’m giving you two 5 minutes and then get ready for a tussle!” she threatened before flicking Joe’s arm and then running out of the room dragging Danika along with her.

“Uhhh…your friends are super weird…” Joe said lying back down and pulling Cherie with him. She snuggled up to his chest and sighed at how good it felt to be back in his arms after so long.

Before long, they heard small footsteps coming into the room and they opened their eyes. Frankie stood in their doorway staring.

“Frank the Tank!” Joe yelled sitting up and holding out his arms.

Frankie jumped up onto the bed and bounded into Joe’s arms. After he hugged Joe, he threw his arms around Cherie’s neck.

“Guess what Cherie!” Frankie said.

“What’s that?” Cherie asked.

“Mommy let me bring my new game!”

“What new game do you have?” she asked, kissing the top of his head.

“Rock Band!” he announced.

“Rock Band??” Joe shouted jumping out of bed and throwing a shirt on with his pajama pants.

“Did someone say Rock Band?” Nick asked, suddenly appearing in the doorway.

Cherie laughed at all the boys’ enthusiasm. “Yes, we said Rock Band – you boys go set it up so I can get dressed.”

All three of them cheered and Joe pick Cherie up, swung her around, and kissed her before running out of the room to go downstairs with Nick and Frankie. Cherie shook her head, laughing as she got dressed.

When she got downstairs, Mrs. Jonas was sitting at the bar drinking a cup of coffee. Cherie went over and hugged her.

“Mrs. Jonas! I’ve missed you so much!” Cherie said.

“How many times do I have to tell you girls to call me Mom or at least Denise. You’re making me feel old!” she said, laughing.

“Finally, she’s up!” Courteney said loudly to Danika in the kitchen.

“Hey!” Cherie said, walking into the kitchen and grabbing an apron. “I needed some extra cuddle time with my husband. Is that too much to ask?”

I guess not,” Danika said, making a disgusted face.

“What can I do ladies?” Mrs. Jonas asked from the bar.

“Mom! I already told you to park your tush right there!” Courteney said. “And I won’t tell you again! You are not lifting a finger. Now you better behave or I’ll send you into the den with the boys!” she threatened.

They all laughed as they could hear the music from the Rock Band game coming from the den.

Cherie was in charge of the turkey and she set about stuffing it and basting it. She was making lemon and herb turkey. Danika was in charge of the sides and Courteney was in charge of the desserts. She’s made her pumpkin pies and chocolate pie the night before so she was helping Danika with the sides and making bread.

After a while, Courteney looked over at the oven and realized that it was almost 9:30. Their parents would be arriving at the airport soon.

“Kevin!” she yelled toward the den. When she didn’t get an answer, she wiped her hands on her apron and walked over to the den. She found every guy in the house sitting in the den either playing or watching Rock Band. Kevin was playing the bass guitar, Frankie was playing drums, Nick was playing guitar, and Joe was singing. Mr. Jonas was sitting on the couch with his eyes glued to the monitor. The sight of all of them was hysterical.

“Kevin…” Courteney repeated.

When he didn’t as much as flinch, she went up to him, put her arms around his waist, and kissed the side of his neck up to his ear. He began to squirm – that was his weak spot.

“Baby,” he whined, “I’m trying to play a game here…you’re distracting me!”

“Well good, because it’s time for you to go pick up our parents. It’s 9:30,’ she told him.

Just then, their game ended, thankfully. Kevin and Joe decided to go get the girls’ parents while Nick, Frankie and Mr. Jonas started another game.

Joe and Kevin waited at the airport for about 15 minutes before they spotted Cherie’s parents come out of the terminal first followed by Courteney’s parents and then Danika’s. Joe hugged his in-laws and all the moms and then shook hands with the dads as did Kevin.

They had take two cars to fit everyone so Joe asked Mr. and Mrs.Le Grenoille if they wanted to ride with him which they gladly accepted and Courteney and Danika’s parents rode with Kevin.

In the car, Joe nervously fidgeted in his seat.

“Well, what’s the matter honey?” Cherie’s mother asked.

“I just want you guys to know that everything with A.J. was a misunderstanding and I love Cherie with all of my heart and I would never do anything to hurt her. She’s my life,” Joe told them.

“That’s good and that’s the way it should be,” Cherie’s dad said. “We knew it had to have been a misunderstanding when Cherie told us what had happened but it’s hard seeing your little girl hurt like that.”

I know, sir,” Joe replied. “And believe me; everything is under control except for one thing. When we get back to LA next week, I’m going to be moving back into our house. But before I do, I want a brand new start.”

“What did you have in mind?” Cherie’s mom questioned.

“Well,” Joe started, “I have this engagement ring…she never got one before because we eloped and we just never got around to getting one. And I wanted to do it right this time by asking your permission and tell you that I love your daughter with everything that is in me.”

Both of Cherie’s parents had tears in their eyes. Her dad put a hand on Joe’s shoulder and said, “Joe, we are so proud to call you our son in law. We couldn’t ask for anyone better. Of course you have our blessing.”

They pulled into the driveway behind Kevin’s car and everyone went inside. There was a frenzy of hugs as everyone said hi to one another. Then, the mothers settled down in the living room to talk about the upcoming wedding of Courteney and Kevin which would probably be the next time they would be all together.

The fathers joined the boys in the den to watch and play Rock Band while Courteney, Danika, and Cherie finished making the Thanksgiving dinner.

While the turkey was still cooking, the girls took a break and challenged the boys to Rock Band. Danika took the drums, Cherie took the guitar and Courteney sang. They picked the song “Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi. When they were done, the boys played on the same instruments as before making 500 points less than the girls.

“That’s not fair!” Frankie yelled. “Kevin messed up too much! You guys can have him!”

“You little…” Kevin said, lunging at Frankie. This started a wrestling match on the den floor with all of the Jonas boys.

Then, Courteney’s mom came in and said the turkey was done.

They set all of the food out on the tables and everyone sat down. The big dining room table held the parents and the second table set up seated everyone else.

Mr. Jonas prayed and then they began eating.

“In the middle of the mea, Joe suddenly stood up and said “Can I have everyone’s attention?” while he hit the side of his wine glass with his fork. The glass shattered onto the table. Everyone looked around at each other and burst into laughter.

“Dude, that was priceless,” Nick said, trying to catch his breath from laughing so much. Joe glared at him and everyone got quiet again.

“As I was saying,” Joe began, “Cherie and I have been through a rough couple of months and I just want to thank all of you guys for sticking by us. And thank you to Kevin, Nick, Court, and Dan for sticking your noses where they didn’t belong.”

Everyone laughed.

“But on a serious note,” Joe continued, “I wanted to do something before I officially move back in – something I should’ve done before we got married.”

Cherie gave Joe a confused look as he bent down next to her chair. He reached into his pocket and then she realized he was down on one knee. She held her breath nervously looking at him.

He took her hand and said, “Cherie, I love you so much and I want to give you everything you’ve ever wanted. I never got to give you the wedding you always wanted in front of your friends and family so…” he opened the box to reveal the one carat blue sapphire princess cut solitaire, “Will you marry me again?”

Tears spilled over her eyes as she nodded quickly. “Yes!” she whispered.

He pulled her to him and kissed her passionately, hugging her tightly.

“I love you so much, Joe,” She whispered into his ear.

-Epilogue-

After Joe’s impromptu proposal, the following Sunday, before everyone went home, he turned Kevin’s back yard into flower central. There were white daisies everywhere. The mothers and the girls had taken Cherie shopping for a wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses. They decided to go with a black and white theme and the girls each picked out a little black dress they would wear over again.

Cherie’s wedding dress was a Vera Wang original they had found in a bridal store downtown. It was strapless and had a lace overlay. It was a ballroom gown and her veil was shoulder length not quite covering her hair.

Mr. Jonas officiated the renewing of their vows. Joe felt the tears slide down his face as he watched Cherie’s dad walk her down the aisle.

They wrote their own vows and after Cherie said hers, Joe began.

“Cherie, the first time we got married, we knew we loved each other but we knew it was very impulsive. I stand before you now and I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you – I’m sure…that I’m going to spend the rest of my life with you. What’s mind if yours to make your own. So you can look after me – and I’ll love after you.

They stared into each other’s eyes for a moment, then sealed their promise with a kiss.

*Note* During Joe's vows, it's part of the song "Look After You" by the Fray.
