Okay guys, this is really for Ashlynn Taylor, because I love her!
This is also my 1500th post on here, so it's a celebration one-shot!
I hope you guys like it!
I got the idea from the song "Sadie Hawkins Dance" by Relient K. Check it out if you haven't heard it, k?
Okay, here you go!
Sadie Hawkins Dance
Kevin Jonas walked down the hallway in his khaki pants and button down shirt and smiled. The Sadie Hawkins dance was a week away, and he’d already been asked out by six different girls. Though he was by no means a “ladies man,” he was genuinely happy that he was so well-liked. His brothers already had dates, and thought he was crazy for turning down so many girls. But he was holding out for the one that meant the most to him.
“Hey Ashlynn.” He said as he slid into his desk. Ashlynn Taylor had been his best friend since she moved to New Jersey in the third grade, and though she had no idea, he’d been in love with her since then.
“Kevin!” she said excitedly as her eyes met his. “What’s wrong with you?”
Startled, he looked himself over quickly, just in case he got something on him without realizing it. This caused Ashlynn to crack up, making him knit his eyebrows together in confusion.
“Hun, you look fine. It’s your brain I’m worried about,” she said reassuringly.
“What’s wrong with my brain?” He asked defensively.
“Um, you had SIX different girls ask you to the dance and you turned them all down!” Ashlynn replied, rolling her eyes. “What are you waiting for, Cinderella herself to ask you?”
Looking into her eyes, he replied seriously. “Not Cinderella. But I am holding out on someone special to ask me.”
“Who?” Ashlynn asked, curious.
Kevin just rolled his eyes and faced the front. He loved her to death, but sometimes she had to be the most clueless girl he’d ever met.

Joe watched his longtime girlfriend Ashley make her way through the lunch line and grinned when she sat next to him. Though they started dating in an odd way, (her friends dared her to ask him out during an intense Truth or Dare session) he was incredibly happy with her. They made a great team when they planned their “devious deeds” (meaning good-natured pranks) and she always put a smile on his face.
“Hey!” He said once she was situated. He grabbed her hand, and she smiled at him warmly.
“So I was talking to Stanley during English.” She said, grabbing her milk and opening it.
“Yeah?” he asked, throwing his arm around her and stealing half of her sandwich.
She mock glared at him before nodding. “Yeah. I’m thinking he’d be a good date for me for the Sadie Hawkin’s dance, you think?”
He laughed then, honestly amused. She’d already asked Joe the day it was announced, but she kept saying how she’d go with another guy. Today it was Stanley, a boy who didn’t know his right from his left, and just managed to understand how to tie shoes.
“I think he’d be perfect.” He agreed, hugging her. “But what about this crazy kid named Joe Jonas? I hear he has the hots for you.”
“Nah, too much ego.”
“I DO NOT!” He bellowed, before calming down and grinning.
“But he does have a nice butt,” Ashley amended, kissing him quickly on the cheek right as Nick and Melissa sat.
“Okay, I walk up and I hear you talking about Joe’s butt.” Nick said, sliding next to Melissa. They’d just started dating, and though they weren’t officially boyfriend and girlfriend, they were the cutest couple in the world. (According to them anyway, Ashley was sure she and Joe would win if there were an actual contest.) “Do I need to leave?”
“Nope, we’re done talking about your brother’s amazing butt,” Ashley replied, feeding Joe a French fry. Melissa just giggled and Ashley struck up a conversation with her about what they were wearing to the dance.
Ashlynn sat down at their table next, seemingly deep in thought.
“What’s up Ash?” Ashley asked once she noticed that Ashlynn seemed a little distraught.
“Nothing much,” Ashlynn replied. “Just curious about something.”
“What would that be?” Joe asked, his head to the side like a curious puppy. Ashley looked at him and grinned before facing Ashlynn again.
“Just something Kevin said. Do you know if he likes anyone? Because he said he was waiting for someone special to ask him, and I’d like to know who. You know, so he’d be happy when she did ask him. I don’t know why anybody wouldn’t want to ask him, he’s amazing and—“
“Ash!” Melissa said, interrupting Ashlynn’s rambling. “You’re babbling.”
“Sorry.”
“Why don’t you ask him?” Nick said.
Ashlynn looked terrified at the thought of that. “No way! I couldn’t deal with it when he said no. And I’d rather him be with the person he wants to be.” Ashlynn didn’t add that she’d love for him to want to be with her, but she was definitely thinking it.
As one, the other occupants of the table rolled their eyes at Ashlynn’s cluelessness, right as Kevin sat down.
“What?” He asked when he received five looks when he placed his tray down. “I didn’t do anything!”
--
Before they knew it, a week had passed and it was almost time for the dance. Kevin watched almost sadly as his brothers rushed around trying to get ready. He was happy for them, but he wished that he were going to the dance too. Ashlynn had never asked him, and though he’d try to give her hints the entire week, she either didn’t notice, or didn’t want to hurt his feelings.
He didn’t remember her asking anyone else to the dance, so maybe they could hang out tonight. When Ashley and Melissa arrived, he did as directed and took pictures while his mom sighed and “ahhed” over the girl’s dresses. After they left, he called Ashlynn.
When he didn’t get a response at her house, he was confused. Maybe she was going to the dance after all? Not bothering to call her cell phone, he went to his room slightly heartbroken but wishing more than anything that whoever Ashlynn was with, she had a good time.
The knock on the door startled him, and he jumped in his chair. He’d been sitting down for about ten minutes, just thinking. When he answered it, he was surprised to see Ashlynn there. She was dressed nicely for the dance, and he wondered what she was doing here.
“Ashlynn, hey.” He said, inviting her into his room. She walked in and sat down on the edge of his bed, smiling. “What’s up?”
She looked at him stupidly for a second before laughing. “You’re not going to the dance dressed like that, are you?”
He was wearing the same khaki pants he started the week in, but with a different shirt. Confused, he looked at Ashlynn. “The dance? But I turned everybody down. I’m not going.”
“Wrong!” She said happily. “I didn’t ask you, so you didn’t turn me down. I’m hoping you won’t, because you’re my best friend, but all week when girls were asking you to the dance I couldn’t help but worry that you’d choose one of them and then start dating them and wouldn’t have time for me anymore. But I was also worried that if I asked you to the dance you’d say no, and then it would be awkward. But I didn’t want to go—“
She was cut off when his lips met hers. Kissing her gently, Kevin pulled away grinning. “You’re the girl I was waiting for. I’d love to go to the dance with you.”
Ashlynn stood and pulled him into a tight hug before grabbing his hand and running down the stairs. “Well what are we waiting for? Let’s go!”
