Chapter 9
When we got home, Courtney had dance practice and Britney decided to tag along. I was too worn out to come and most likely would not have gone with them anyways. After a half an hour of Courtney scampering through the house looking for her new tap shoes all was quiet. Courtney, Brittney, and my aunt were at dance, and my uncle was at work. I flopped down on the sofa in the living room and turned the big screen on. There was nothing worth watching, except Dr. Phil, and I really didn’t feel like listing to some crying lady’s story about being divorced and broke. I sighed, pressing the off switch on the remote.
I laid face up on the couch for a minute, staring at the ceiling, then I spotted the grand piano. Of course I knew it was there, but I never really had the intention to play it before. I stood up and walked over, flipping through the books in the piano stool. I finally picked a song that looked familiar “My Heart Will go On” I sat down and begin to play, I was a bit rusty but over all I sounded pretty good, that was until I got the the last verse. There were so many sharps, flats, and moves that I gave up trying, and started banding my head on the keys.
“You need a finger three on the B flat” I looked around. Who was that?
“Over here, Bailey” Nick grinned. He was standing on the sidewalk outside the large window, his face against the glass.
“Nick!?” I ran to the door to let him in. “How did you know I was here?! How did you get here!?”
He smiled “That is my grandparents’ house” He pointed to the huge mansion like home towards the top of the street “And I saw you walk in this afternoon with your cousins. Speaking of your cousins, what did they do to you?” He looked at my new hair oddly.
“Oh” I laughed. “I’ve been Courtneyfied”
“Well, let’s get to work with that song shall we?” I could tell he loved music. We both sat down at the piano bench. He demonstrated how I should play.
“So like this this” I attempted the measure again. “UURRG!!!”
“No” he laughed like this. Nick took my hand and put it on the keys. I played again, no mistakes. I looked at him breathlessly. “Thanks.” He leaned into kiss me, I instinctively pulled back.
“Sorry, I knew I shouldn’t have done that”
“No….it’s ok. It’s just….no one has ever tried to kiss me before” He kissed my cheek, than looked me in the eyes. We sat like that for a minute. Then he tried to kiss me again. I think he knew that I wouldn’t pull back this time. And I didn’t. I kissed him right back.
