Ok, heres the next part, its a little longer! So enjoy!
It felt pretty cool to be in the spot where everyone else wanted to be. Katie even smiled to me as though my abnormal height had saved the day.
The song selection was okay. I had heard S.O.S. too many times, and it didn’t help that it had been the first song those Jonas Brothers played. Then it was Kids of the Future, which was, of course, another song I had heard more than I wanted. But it was what happed right after that which made this concert the most memorable experience of my life.
The next song that the Jonas Brothers played was Pushing Me Away, a new song that my sister was totally in love with, while I on the other hand, only moved by the swaying and pushing of the other girls around me. The song was better than their previous songs, and I could tell, by the way Katie started dancing all crazily. I was soooo wishing I wasn’t here.
I decided to keep myself occupied by looking at the whole crew on the stage. The drummer looked like he was enjoying his time up there on the stage. Well, practically everyone on that stage looked like they were having the time of their lives. Then the crowd seemed to fall silent.
And just as soon as the crowd grew silent, the rising sound of girls’ screams filled the air. Brighter lights were dancing across the field now, and I noticed there was one girl right in front of me with a short ponytail, jumping up and down, her little sequin purse hitting my ribs.
“It’s me! It’s me!!” the girl yelled. Then I noticed why she was the only one jumping up and down.
On the stage was the lighted silhouette of Joe Jonas (a.k.a. DJ Danger). He was looking right at the girl in front of me. Or was it me he was looking at? It was so impossible to tell, because I was right next to that girl, yet everything seemed to think she was the one Joe was looking at.
My heart must have skipped a beat. His brilliant brown eyes glistened with all of the stage lights shining on him, and from the camera shots from all of the girls.
“Scarlett, it’s you!” I heard Katie sigh, “Joe Jonas is looking at you!!”
There was no way on earth this could be happening though. I didn’t like the Jonas Brothers, so there was no way they could ever like me. I bent down to Katie’s height.
“No, it’s the girl in front of us. I’m sure.”
Then the music stopped.
“Um…excuse me, but could the lady in the yellow sundress please come up on the stage with Joe Jonas. It seems that you have caught his eye!”
Well, that’s what Nick Jonas said. I looked around. Who had a yellow sundress? I looked at the girl in front of me. Was she wearing a white dress that looked yellow? I couldn’t tell. I felt someone shove me really hard.
“I told you Joe was looking at you! Now go!!” Katie urged me. She was the one who shoved me. I smiled weakly to her as I made my way to the gates blocking the stage, where I was hoisted up by sweaty looking bodyguards, and where I clasped my hand with Joe’s.
“Hey um, what’s your name?” Joe asked politely. I was sitting on a stool now, looking down at my yellow sundress. The view was so amazing from up here. I could see that the ridiculously large field was filled to the top with adoring fans. I couldn’t even see my tent from here!
“Um…I’m Scarlett,” I smiled weakly, my fingers trembling ever since Joe had touched them. Nick and Kevin were smiling my way. But perhaps they though I was just another silly fan.
“Everybody, this is Scarlett! The girl in the yellow sundress!!” Joe shouted. Hoards of fans screamed, and for a minute there, I felt alone. I looked down at Katie. She seemed to be happy for me. Though I didn’t know why. I didn’t like the Jonas Brothers. She did. She should’ve been picked.
After the song that was played for me (and believe me, I felt completely horrified at the fact that I was being sung to in front of thousands of people), I didn’t feel shaky anymore. In fact, I felt kind of glad that I went to this concert after all.
Then Joe Jonas came up to me, and grabbed the opposite hand he grabbed to pull me up stage. Then he whispered softly in my ear.
“It didn’t look like you were having fun, so I decided to make this the best night you’ve ever had. Meet me backstage after the concert. I’ll be waiting.”
Then all three of the Jonas Brothers led me to the edge of the stage, where the sweaty bodyguards gently set me back down on the ground, where I rushed back to Katie. She was jumping up and down. The girl in front of her (the one with the short ponytail) was crying.
“You did it! I’m so happy for you, Scarlett!” Katie exclaimed. I never knew she could ever be happy for me. But after a few minutes, we joked about the girl in front of us, how she thought she was the one Joe had picked.
And throughout the entire concert, Joe was still only looking at one person. Me.
After the concert, Katie and I looked at each other. I had already told her about my plans to meet Joe backstage, so we knew we had to only book it to our campsite. We sprinted down the field, trying to search beyond all of the lights as to where our tent was. Then we saw mom waving her glistening pan.
“Oh my gosh girls, I totally heard what happened!!” mom squealed, and our campground neighbors came running out of their RV. I guess they had been socializing with mom during the concert.
“Yeah, we heard about how you, Scarlett, got to sit up on stage with Joe!” said one of campground neighbors, who had a stuffy southern accent.
“Mom,” Katie blurted out, “Scarlett has to meet Joe Jonas backstage soon. He asked her, and-and, she has to hurry!”
“Ooh, well then! You have to hurry, Scarlett! Here, take my sweater. Good luck…and run!!”
Believe me, I ran. I ran as fast, or faster, than when Katie and I were running back to our tent. Was Joe actually going to let me backstage with him? Or was he just going to turn me down for another crazy, obsessed fan? I could only find out. Although, my hope seemed to die down as I saw a huge bodyguard outside of the door.
“Um…I’m here for Joe Jonas,” I tried to say with full confidence. The bodyguard sort of kept his serious face for a moment before a small smile cracked from his face.
“Oh, you’re that Scarlett girl, aren’t you?” the guard smiled, starting to unlock the door, “you know, I think Joe really likes you.”
I sure hoped so. I wasn’t going backstage to meet some guy who, I don’t know, hated me. That wouldn’t be right. It’d be a waste of my time.
“Ah, there you are, Scarlett! Come on, I have something I want to show you,” Joe smiled widely, as he zipped up a letterman jacket, probably one his father had given him recently. I looked down at my mother’s large, overly-worn high school sweatshirt. It sort of resembled Joe’s jacket, in a way.
Joe then grabbed my hand (this must’ve been the millionth time) and he started running, running, and running some more, farther away from the stage, the concert, everything. Then he started talking to me.
“I always pick out a place to call my own, with every concert I go to. There’s always a place in the quiet, where I can just get away from people. This is only my second time coming here, but I remember coming back here like it was just yesterday.”
My heart leapt. This was his ‘secret’ place? And he was showing it to me? He had hardly met me, except on stage. But this was just weird.
