Hey guys-- This is my first Garbo FF and I've already posted it on Garbo Love(garbolove.proboards82.com), but figured I'd share the love! I'd love to hear your thoughts, so please comment!! :-) -Bri
Alone In The Rain
Garbo trailed his fingers over the upturned dirt, suppressing tears of rage as he cursed the gray sky above him. How could He have done this to him? Taken his little girl away. He closed his eyes and could see her in front of him, her black hair streaming down her back, blue eyes sparkling.
“I’m getting married Daddy!” She had cried, throwing open the door with her left hand, her new diamond ring sending a rainbow of sparkles across the wall. “And he’s the one, I know it!”
He had yelled at her, asking her how she could have fallen so fast for someone she hardly knew. She had screamed in return, saying that she loved him, that it felt right, that she had known him long enough. “Four years Daddy!” He had replied that that was no time at all, that he had known her mother for ten years before they had gotten married. “I’m not you and Mom, Daddy!” She had always called him ‘Daddy’, even when she was furious at him, like she had been at that moment. He had asked her what she was thinking, jumping into a marriage like that.
“I know what I’m doing, I’m not a baby!” She had stormed through the house, calling for her mother as he had followed her. At the sight of her mother, Sierra had burst into tears, running into Rachel’s embrace. Over her daughter’s head, Rachel had glared at him, silently reprimanding him for ruining Sierra’s moment. He had mumbled an apology and slipped into his study, calling Kevin to tell him what had happened, thinking he’d understand. But instead, Kevin had gently asked what he really thought, knowing that Garbo would tell him that no man would ever be fit to marry his daughter. Garbo had said, albeit grudgingly, that of everyone he knew, Mark would be the best fit for Sierra’s bouncy personality and playful nature. Kevin had agreed, telling him that he needed to tell Sierra what he truly thought. But then Sierra had appeared at his study door, tears gone, but red streaks on her face painful reminders of what he had caused.
“I’m going Daddy, I’ll talk to you later.” The door quietly closed as she left. Smiling, Garbo realized that his daughter had never slammed a door, claiming that loud noises never accomplished anything. He had sat there in silence until Kevin’s voice pulled him out of his reverie. Several minutes later, Rachel appeared at the doorway, watching him silently as he talked to Kevin, disappointment apparent on her face. After watching him for a couple of minutes, she left, probably off to find something to do. Saying goodbye, he hung up the phone, watching the pictures on the wall, smiling thoughtfully at the memories pasted in the frames.
His cell phone rang, making him jump. The screen flashed with a single name: Sierra.
“Hi darling.” His voice was quiet, hesitant.
Her voice was clouded with tears. “Daddy.”
“Honey, I’m sure he’s wonderful, but no daddy wants to let his daughter go.” He confessed honestly.
She giggled. “You sound like Billy Ray, Daddy.”
“Well those Jonas’ have good taste in friends, what can I say?” He asked her.
He could hear her bright smile over the phone. “I love you Daddy, so much.”
“I love you too, baby girl.” He froze as there was a loud squeal from her end of the phone and then…nothing. “Sierra, honey, answer me!” He called desperately.
Rachel ran to his study as she heard his cries. “What’s wrong?” She was panicking as her husband clutched the phone to his ear, calling for his daughter.
The rain pounded down on his back as the clouds burst, sending down heavy pelts of water, making his dark clothes cling to his slim frame, the drops trailing down his face. What had he done? What had she done?
“She was engaged!” He bellowed at the sky, tears mixing with the rain. “My little girl was going to be married!”
“Daddy.” He heard her voice as clearly as if she was standing next to him. “Daddy, it’s okay, it was just my time.”
“But I wasn’t ready.” He sobbed, sinking to his knees. “I wasn’t ready to let you go.”
“And I wasn’t ready to leave, Daddy, but it was time.”
“Sierra.” The single word was enough to leave him shaking. “Sierra, my baby girl.”
“Shh, Daddy.” He could feel the wind brush his cheek, just like her lips would when she would tell him goodnight when she was little: climbing into his lap and hugging him fiercely, kissing his cheek lightly. “Daddy, do me a favor.”
“Anything, darling.” He was crazy- talking to thin air, what was he doing? But something kept him driving on.
“Don’t leave Daddy. Don’t find me. I know you’re feeling lost and lonely, but you still have Mama and Uncle Kevs and Joe, and Nick…don’t leave Daddy.”
She had pinned his emotions perfectly, an annoying knack of hers. It was true, he was feeling lost and lonely as he wept for Sierra’s lost life, alone in his world. Alone in the rain.
