Haha, so I realized I kinda suck at serious, disaster stories. Good thing this is a short-fic.
Enjoy!
Chapter Two
When Kevin came to, he realized three things. One, he had no idea what was happening, two, his head felt like it would explode, and three, the girl he’d saved previously was curled against his chest. The third realization was by far the most pleasant, but not extremely comforting when the other situations were added back to his thoughts.
He gently moved, not intending to stir the girl, but that’s exactly what happened, and he smiled as she blinked at him, confused and the same time a little embarrassed at the position she found herself in.
“Hey,” he said, his voice resounding in the building. “Are you okay?”
The girl couldn’t help but smile as the words she’d spoken to him however long ago were repeated to her. “I’m fine.” She managed to say, while pulling herself away from him.
Kevin found himself missing the contact they had, but shrugged it off. “So you know my name,” he recalled, “but what’s yours?”
“Mel…Melissa.” She replied, looking dazed.
“Melissa.” He repeated. “I wish I could have met you in better circumstances, but I’ll take what I can get.”
She smiled at him, before standing to look at the wreckage they were trapped in. He heard her gasp and stood quickly to see what was wrong. Though his head pained him, the damage he saw made him forget his pain and his eyes widened at the sight before them.
Apart from the small area they were in, nothing was left standing. To top it off, it appeared that nobody was even alive.
“Kevin?” He heard Melissa’s voice ask faintly.
Though he was frightened, one look at her proved that she was on the verge of fainting. Knowing he had to be strong for the both of them he forced himself to ask bravely. “Yes?”
“What’s going on?” She had tears in her eyes and he found himself wanting to hold her. This person he barely knew.
“I think it’s the end of the world.” He honestly said, before breaking down himself. He wondered about his family, his life. He didn’t care about morals then, he rushed over to Melissa and took her in his arms, holding her as they both broke down, wondering what would become of them.
