HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ERICA!!!
Erica double checked her make-up, running her fore-finger underneath her lower lip to catch misplaced lipgloss, then fixed a cluster of stray hairs. She tugged on her tightly fitted tee and cast another look into the mirror. She smirked, winked, and grabbed her purse on the way out of her downtown city apartment. Before she even reached the doors leading outside to L.A., her cell phone rang in her purse. She saw the caller I.D. and smiled, picking it up.
“Well hey there, stranger,” she purred as the doors opened before her. The sun immediately beamed down on her face, so Erica slid her designer shades to the bridge of her nose as she began to strut down the sidewalk.
“I know, I know. It’s been a while. But hey, at least I’m calling!” The voice said, a joking tone in his voice.
“I’m aware…but you still owe me, mister,” Erica teased, her lips in a playful smile as she hailed a cab.
“That’s so true. How about lunch…in one hour? On the pier?” He suggested. Erica thought about it, then stepped into the cab.
“I’d love to,” she said before hanging up, sticking her cell phone into the pocket of Chanel tote.
Exactly an hour and thirteen minutes later, Erica arrived at the pier, purposefully late. She had deliberately taken her time in the boutique, just so she could make her entrance onto the pier. She hated being the first one at anything, adamant that people turn to look at her as she entered, not the other way around.
Her face lit up when she saw the handsome guy waiting at their favorite table, positioned so it looked out onto the ocean. She casually made her way to the table, making sure she caught his eye. With just a sway of her hips, his attention snapped towards her, a brilliant smile filling up his face. He pushed his chair back as he approached, welcoming her with a warm hug and a soft kiss.
“I’ve missed you,” he murmured into her hair as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
“Aw, Kevin,” she cooed, “I’ve missed you, too. But you’re back now, and that’s all that matters,” she said, smiling up at him. He nodded, letting go of her to let her take a seat across from him. She sat down and took off her sunglasses, her hazel eyes glistening by the light of the sun. Kevin admired her, everything about her. The way she smoothed down her perfect brown hair, how with just a small flick of her head, her bangs moved out of her eyes, and made his heart flutter. Erica caught him staring and smiled at him, leaning in on the table.
“You’re perfect,” she muttered, searching his face. Kevin blushed, and shook his head.
“I think you’re mistaken. Surely you are mistaken,” he murmured before inching towards her face, covering her lips with his in a light, breathless kiss. He pulled back as the waiter loomed over the table, waiting for their attention. They refused the menus the waiter held out for them, already knowing what they wanted. The two of them both ordered their usual—Kevin a chicken cutlet sandwich with a side of a garden salad, light on the dressing, while Erica ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and a side of fries. They both ordered diet cokes before the waiter left them to catch up with each other.
Erica bit her bottom lip as she folded her hands in front of her and listened to Kevin talk about touring. His eyes sparkled when he mentioned being on stage, and the amazing experience he shared with his brothers.
“I can’t wait for you to meet them, Erica. Honestly, they would love you,” Kevin gushed, the side of his foot teasing Erica’s calf. She shuddered under the simple gesture and offered a smile.
“I can’t wait either, Kevin, I’m just…..” she trailed off, looking down, playing with her beaded bracelet. Kevin reached across the tiny glass table to take her hand in his. His thumb brushed over her four fingers as he said, “I know…you don’t want to move too fast. I understand, Erica. And I’ll go as slow as you feel comfortable with, just for you,” he said, the compassion in his voice. Erica smiled at him and he lightly and affectionately squeezed her hand. They both sat back and talked some more about the times missed. Their food came, and the two continued to catch up, laughing and chatting between bites. When the food was devoured and the check was paid, Kevin once again took Erica into his arms.
“Call me later?” She asked into his chest. She inhaled deeply, taking in the scent of his cologne and the salty smell of the ocean, mixed together in a beautiful way. Kevin kissed the top of her head.
“Of course,” he said before pulling back. Erica smiled as she turned on her heel, before crossing the street. Kevin watched her walk away, mesmerized by the girl who had quickly taken his heart captive. Erica fought the urge to turn around, to watch him as she walked away, knowing she still had an audience. Casually she hailed a cab as her phone rang. She fished for it, curious as to whom it could be. She laughed when she saw the name attached to the text message.
Hey there, gorgeous. Want to meet up tonight? Erica smiled as her fingers furiously typed back a response. Reading it over, she nodded, satisfied with it.
Of course. I have been missing a little danger in my life lately! ;)
