Circulating in Jocelyn’s mind;
I looked around all the new students, struggling out there during the paddle-out. Leaning against my surfboard I searched off the whole coast line. I noticed Adelaide had taken Nick aside, I wondered why. I really didn’t have too much time to ponder about that, seeing one of the eldest seemed to be a real larrikin goofing around as it seemed he was pretending to be drowning. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes as I got in the water with my board, paddling over there.
“You ‘right mate?” I questioned as I tugged at his hand, pulling him up.
As his head rose up from the water, he grinned foolishly. “Oh yeah, I’m fine.” He said as he climbed back up on his board, grinning in triumph.
I had to admit I was a little agitated, I didn’t really have time to deal with blokes fooling around while the other ankle biters may actually need my help.
“Alright mate, just give it another burl. You’ll do fine.” I assured him calmly, keeping my cool as he friskily nodded his head, shaking his head around so the water from his hair flew around everywhere. This bloke had spunk, though he acted like a real dill. “Burl?” Joe asked raising an eyebrow.
“Another shot, try whatever you blokes call it.” I replied with a shrug searching the rest of the waters to see how the rest of the lot were doing.
The sweetheart of the group, Delia seemed to be having a lot of fun as she paddled out there by herself. For a little kid like herself she was doing ace!
The bubbly little Brooke was truly the spirit of the group. She was swimming along side Kevin, who was helping her back on her board. At least one of these Jonas boys was putting a little effort in helping us Sheila’s out.
Both Adelaide and I weren’t familiar with their music, as it seemed they were very famous in the back of bourke, there in America. It was a little exciting to be teaching blokes as famous as this lot, but I wasn’t going to let my little excitement get the best of me. I had to focus, I was here to teach – not to play .. well not too much.
My eyes then shot towards the youngest bloke out there, who was striving to climb back onto his board but kept falling back in the water. Poor lil ankle biter. I dove in the water from my board, swiftly swimming over to him as I wrapped my arm around him firmly, placing him back on the board. “You alright ankle biter?” I asked as he appeared to be a little scared and spitting the dummy over his little slip up. “Ah don’t spit the dummy mate, this is your first burl it’ll turn out alright. Frankie looked up with a little hopeful smile etched on his face as I patted his back. “Atta boy. Now go get ‘em tiger.” I encouraged as Frankie nodded placing himself on the board, lying on his stomach as he started to paddle towards Delia, maybe the little ankle biters could teach each other something.
I got out of the water, packing up some of the things. “Alright mates. Time to get out now!” I called out to the water seeing heads turn around as they started to slowly, but surely paddle back to the coast. I subtly glanced over to Adelaide who seemed to be having a nice conversation with the spunky bloke. While I continued packing up the sack Adelaide jogged on over. "What was that about?" I questioned arching an eyebrow out of curiosity.
"Just seeing why he's lagging behind. I invited him and the others to the roast tonight." Adelaide replied avidly.
"You sure its a good idea to get snagged with the lot of him?" I asked vigilantly, we really weren’t supposed to be dating our students.
"I know." I heard her reply as I stood up straight, I felt a faint strain in my back from having bent over for a while. “What about that dag out there then?” Adelaide asked as she lightly elbowed me in the side. I raised an eyebrow looking out to the line-up, seeing the spunky dill chase his little brother around. “Joe?” I questioned stifling a laugh. “Well you gotta admit, we should be rapt. The view isn’t that bad.” Adelaide remarked in a hush tone as the students approached, I chuckled with a nod. “Too right, mate.” I quickly responded before turning towards the students.
“Right mates, not bad for a first time out there. Some of you really got some skills.” I said openly towards all of them, winking at Frankie who seemed as happy as a Larry. “Well ooroo mates. Until tomorrow.” Adelaide said with a wave. Then Joe walked on over, with a little apologetic smile etched on his face. “Uh .. look I wanna say sorry for acting like such a douche out there. I saw how you helped little Frank out there.” He started to apoligize. “I shouldn’t misuse that..” He added in a muttering tone as he looked up. “That’s alright mate, no drama. How ‘bout you come over to the bush bully tonight?” I suggested with a shrug, seeing as Adelaide invited Nick I thought I’d also invite someone. The bloke looked a little confused as he nodded. “Alright..” He responded cautiously. “It’s a campfire mate.” I clarified as he seemed to comprehend that noun. “See you at seven mate.”
I walked over to Adelaide who had gone over to the spot they were setting up the bush bully. “You asked him, didn’t you?” Adelaide asked with a smirk spreading across her face. I casually shrugged. “What’s the harm? He’s just another bloke.”
“A bloke we’re teaching.” Adelaide corrected.
“No drama, he’s a dill anyways.” I said shrugging as Adelaide stifled a laugh.
No time to worry about spunky blokes though, it’s time to have some harmless fun around the roast. It was going to be totally ace tonight.
