Hey everyone. This is my first story here. I hpe you like it!
Chapter 1
I looked out the window of our tour bus and frowned. It was around midnight and I couldn’t get any sleep. After all this touring, you can be really tired but never feel like going to sleep.
“Zena, are you sure you don’t need some sleep?” The bus driver, Alan, asked me. I shook my head.
“I don’t feel like going to sleep.”
“You need sleep. Your sisters are sleeping in the back.” Alan looked at me in the mirror. I shrugged.
“Whatever.” I didn’t really care about my sisters sleeping or not. You see we are the Ze and Em. I didn’t name us. I thought that name is stupid. My sisters, Emily and Natalie, our manager, named us. They think it’s cute. Cue roll eyes here.
“Zena! You need to go to sleep now.” Natalie commanded as she walked into the front of the bus in her frog p.j.’s. She’s like the leader just because she’s twenty. Gah, sometimes I wish that I were older. I’m turning sixteen in a couple of months.
“I can’t, so just leave me alone.” I tell my older sister. She rolls her eyes and points to the bedding room.
“Bed… now.” I roll my eyes and follow her command. I didn’t want to get on her bad side. I sighed and climbed into my top bunk. I pulled the curtains shut and faced the wall of the bus, trying to ignore the fact that my sisters were talking about me.
“Zena, wake up.” Emily gently shook me. I groaned and got out of the bunk. I grabbed some clothes from my suitcase and walked into the bathroom, ignoring my sisters. I had just been able to go to sleep. I had spent the rest of the night up writing new songs.
“Ze, are you just going to ignore us?” Natalie asked me through the door separating us. I made a noise and she groaned. “That’s not going to help me.”
“Since when did you decide to be nice?” I asked her, pulling on my black shirt with Captain Jack Sparrow on it.
“Since when haven’t I?” She questioned. I pulled on my blue jeans and rolled my eyes.
“Since you came on tour with us.”
“Will you guys stop using ‘since’ at the beginning of your sentences?” Emily yelled at us. I sighed and looked into the mirror. I rubbed my eyes and then started brushing my straight red hair.
“Never.” Natalie yelled back at her. Emily is a year younger than Natalie, so they would be closer to each other than I would be. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail and opened the door to see Natalie and Emily talking quietly to each other. They stopped when I appeared and I just rolled my eyes and walked to the front of the bus.
“Alan, are we stopping anytime soon?” I asked him. He was one of my closest friends on this tour. Now don’t think that I’m weird or anything, Alan’s only thirty years old. He wanted to do something with transportation and my parents recommended him to us. Natalie agreed to him and he became our tour bus driver!
“We should be stopping by a stop soon. I need more gas.” Alan smiled at me. “Did your sisters tell you about what’s happening?”
I looked at him in the mirror confused. “What’s happening?”
“That just answered my question.” He laughed. I rolled my eyes playfully and smiled.
This is the real me, a sweet, happy person. I’m not like that around my sisters. They make it so hard for me to do anything right. “Keep your voice steady,” “Stop trying to change the tune,” they always told me.
“So?” I moved my hands in an ‘I want more info,’ way. He winked at me.
“Ask your sisters.” Alan winked at me. I rolled my eyes and sat on the couch. “You gonna ask them?” He questioned.
“They better tell me!” I exclaimed. “I was the one that was fricken’ discovered.” I muttered. Alan laughed and called out to my sisters.
“You have something to tell your sister, right?” Natalie and Emily sat on either side of me and smiled. I just frowned and raised my eyebrows.
“We received a call this morning and we were told that the Jonas Brothers wanted us to do a song with them.” Natalie’s smile got wider. Emily squeaked and I just snorted.
“So what are we going to go on tour with them after?” I asked them.
“Yes, so get used to having three smelly boys around us.” Natalie laughed. Emily looked appalled.
“Their not smelly, are they?” She looked at me confused. “I thought they were going to smell good.”
“You never know. We haven’t met them before.” I shrugged and then jumped when the phone rang. I jumped for it, wrestling my sisters for the phone.
“Hello?” I answered out of breath. My sisters laughed and I held it in for a long as possible… which wasn’t long. I laughed and then muttered sorry into the phone.
“Umm, this is Natalie, right?” A male voice asked, and for some reason, my heart fluttered for a second.
“Nope.” I laughed after looking down at my chest. “I’m her sister, Zena… and yes, that is my real name.” I added in knowing that he was going to ask that.
“Okay, um, can you put me on with your sister?” The male asked softly. I smiled, knowing that I could have some fun with this guy. After all, who can make my heart flutter after saying not more than a couple of words?
“What, you don’t want to talk to the lead singer of Ze and Em?” I pretended to pout.
“No!” He said quickly. “I didn’t mean it like that.” He made a sound that was a mix between pain and a laugh. I giggled and looked over at my sisters.
“Hello!!” Another male voice yelled into the phone. I held the phone away from my ear and looked at it.
“Hey, person.” I laughed.
“Who am I speaking to, Nick?” The male on the phone questioned the other person.
“Zena.” The Nick person and I answered at the same time.
“That was weird.” The male on the phone laughed. “I just had two people say a name at the same time and they weren’t even in the same room!”
“Well, now that you know my name, how ‘bout you give me yours?” I asked, wanting to know who I was talking to. I already had and idea, but I wanted to be sure.
“Joe Jonas.” He replied. I nodded and winked at my sisters. They smiled, probably knowing who it was.
“Well, Joe, my sisters have just told me that you and your brothers want to record a song with us.” I told him.
“Yes, we do. I really like your voice and decided that we would make a perfect harmony.” I could almost see the smile he had on the other end of the line.
“I would like that. Now why did you take the phone away from your brother?”
“Umm, I felt like it?”
I laughed. “That’s not an answer.”
“Well, that’s my answer.”
“Well, that’s not good enough.”
“Hey!”
“How about we put you on speaker phone?” Another voice asked me.
I laughed. “Okay. I’ll do the same with you.” I put the phone on speaker and put it on the table. “Can you hear me?” I asked.
“Yep!” Joe yelled. I laughed and shook my head.
“You seem hyper, Joe.” Emily commented.
“So what?” He replied. Emily smiled softly.
“I don’t know.”
“Okay!” Natalie intervened. I elbowed Emily, reminding her that she has a boyfriend and she doesn’t need to do that with Joe. She sometimes does that with boys; lead them on and then tell them that she is in a loving relationship.
“So why did you call us?” Natalie asked.
“We wanted to know when we could finally meet each other. We know that you are on tour and wanted to know if you guys had time off somewhere.” Nick said. I guess the other person would be Kevin.
“We finish our tour in a couple of days.” Natalie told them. God, she sounds like she is a part of our band.
“That’s great!” Joe yelled.
“We’re right here, Joe.” Kevin laughed. Emily giggled and covered her mouth. I shook my head at my sister. Natalie made eye contact with me and rolled her eyes. I half smiled and turned back to the phone.
“Sorry girls.” Joe said.
“It’s okay. I get like that sometimes.” I replied for all of us. “Hey, have you had any Red Bull today?” I asked him.
“Yeah.”
“Then I guess that’s why you’re hyper.”
“I bet your are right.”
“I’m always right.”
“You are?”
“Yep!” I replied happily. Joe and I laughed. Natalie looked at me weird while Emily glared at me.
“Grow up, you already have a boyfriend.” I glared at Emily.
“At least I can get any boy I want.”
“At least I don’t lead people on.”
“I hate you.”
“I love you too.” I smiled in victory while Emily walked off to the bathroom, slamming the door.
“I win!” I cheered softly.
“What was that about?” Nick asked, making my heart flutter again. I glared at my body and slapped my chest.
“Ow!” I started laughing uncontrollably. Natalie looked at me and pointed at the red mark and started laughing with me.
“That hurt so bad.” I said rubbing my chest. Natalie snorted and we both laughed again.
“Are you two okay?” Kevin asked.
“Yeah, I don’t want anyone to be hurt.” Joe said.
“Ze just slapped her chest for no reason.” Natalie laughed.
“Shut up.”
“Well, we still want to know what the little fight was about.” Joe said.
“Well, Emily sometimes leads boys on and she has a boyfriend. She started making googly eyes when she heard your voice, Joe, and She just kept glaring at me when I was talking to you, so I gave her a little piece of her mind.” I told them.
“Oh.” Joe said.
“Don’t fall for anything okay?” I wanted to make sure that he didn’t get hurt. I don’t know Joe very well, but I already feel a friendship forming between him and me.
“Alright.”
“Look, we have to go. How about you call us tomorrow?” Kevin asked us.
“That would work perfectly. I’ll get all the information and then find out where we can meet.” Natalie said.
“Alright, well, bye.” Kevin said.
“Bye!” Joe cut in.
“Yeah, bye.” Nick added.
“Bye!” I yelled.
“Talk to you later.” Natalie hung up the phone. She turned and looked at me. “Why did you slap your chest?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I don’t know.” I told her. She looked at me and then shook her head.
“I better go talk to Emily.”
“I’ll just stay here.” I said as Natalie went into the bathroom to talk to our sister. I sighed and leaned my head against the couch. Why did my heart flutter when I talked to Nick? I took my head off the couch and walked into the bedroom. I was going to find out why one-way or another. I got into my bunk and got out my notebook filled with my songs. I turned to an empty page and started writing a new song about how I felt right now.
