The air conditioning blasted, turning me into a popsicle. I shivered and sighed, agrivated. "Jack!! turn it down!!! i'm going to turn into one of these ice cream cones!!" I shouted. I heard a door slam and a sweating, angry fatso peering over the counter at me. His squinty eyes and furry nose made him look like a rabbit. Except he was anything but cute and cuddly, he was a jackass. I wish he was a rabbit though; a magican's rabbit. Then maybe he'd disappear. "Excuse me... how much do I pay you?" he asked, expecting a certain answer. "Minimum wage" I replied, inspite of him. His face flushed bright red and he fumed. I chuckled silently. "I pay you a fair amount... and I can turn up the air conditioning as much as I want. I am your boss, your superior" he explained. I never really pay attention to him when he gets into one of these moods. Who wants to listen to a pudgy rabbit rant on and on about how he's better than you, and he has special needs or whatever. He's only turning it up so much because he sweats, and he sweats because he's fat. So he should loose weight!!! Jeez. "Sorry sir. It won't happen again" I responded, nodding. Who am I kidding, I need this job. I'm not saying i'm a kiss-up or anything. I just pretend that he's really smarter than me and not really a complete retard. He opened his mouth, thinking of something witty to say but he just huffed and turned on his heel... back to his bunny cage. I played tic-tac toe in the frosted glass-covering for the ice cream. Yes, that's right... I work at an ice cream store.

Fascinating, I know. An Eminem song was playing so loudly I almost didn't hear the bell ring, announcing a customer at the door. Actually, several customers. Three boys shuffled in and rested against my counter. The one on the left was very tall, had round hazel eyes and a warm smile. The one in the middle looked around the same age, had unusual honey-brown eyes, long black hair and an exotic skin-tone. The one on the right was younger; around my age, he had soft chocolate eyes, pale skin and a crooked smile; and unlike the others had long curly brown hair. They were all incredibly beautiful, which made me uncomfortable. I guess I was cute, in a girl next door way. I had long red hair that was pulled back in a pony-tail, bright sea-green eyes which were hidden behind glasses today (usually wear contacts) and olive-toned skin. "Hullo... uh... what can I get ya?" I asked, nervously. "Hmm.... Chocolate please?" the left one asked. "Strawberry" the one in the middle requested. And I heard a meek "Vanilla" from the one on the right. I served them their ice cream but clumsily, managed to drop one of them. "Dangit!!" I shouted, trying to scoop it up from the floor. The guy in the middle bent down to help me out. "I'm sorry..." I apologized, blushing. "It's okay... i've always believed in the 5 second rule... but, I think it's been more than 5 seconds" he joked. I chuckled as scooped more ice-cream into another cone and handed it to him. "Thanks" he replied, with a wink. I blushed and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Sorry i'm late.." I heard a bubbly voice say. I looked up to see Zoey; my co-worker standing at the door, suprised. "Hi Zoe" I greeted. She slowly walked behind the counter, staring at the three boys eating. "What is it?" I asked. "Don't you know who they are???" she hissed. "What do you mean? who are they?" "They're the Jonas Brothers!" she whispered. "Who?" I replied. She smacked my arm and rolled her eyes. "They're the hottest band ever!!" she gushed, giggling and sneaking glances at them. Okay... sorry, they don't teach that at VAMPIRE ACADEMY and usually humans aren't issued in Vamp Teen... no matter how gorgeous they were.

"Aren't you going to talk to them?" Zoe asked, shocked. "Uh.... no. My shift's over" I replied, throwing her my apron. "But, you can talk to them. Knock yourself out" I suggested, grabbing my coat. I checked the Jonas Brothers out, out of the corner of my eye. "Finished working?... will you join us?" the tall one asked. I hestitated. Were they seriously asking me to sit down with them. Seems... unreal. "Uh... I... I don't know" I replied, still hesitant. I wanted to sit with them, I was kind of afraid too. Like if I just hung out with humans they would suddenly know I wasen't one of them, that I was a vampire. A monster in their eyes. In real life, vampires are no different than regular humans except for three things. Our incredible powers, vampire fangs and a very important job: protecting mankind. We are actually the absolute opposite of evil, we are more good than humans could ever be. But the few evil vampires out there have disgraced our name. I take my job pretty seriously, but secretly I wish I wasen't a vampire. I had smaller dreams than saving the human race. All I wanted to do was sing and write music. But... vamps don't exactly condone any dreams besides protecting the dumb humans. Like they can't look after their own behinds... "That's too bad... are you sure?" the exotic one that helped me asked. "Oh, well... maybe just a little while" I responded, grabbing a chair and sitting with them.

"What's your name?" the tall one asked. "Ana" I answered, nodding. I found out that the tall one was Kevin, the exotic one was Joe and the curly-haired one was Nick. "So.. do you like working here?" Kevin asked, curiously. "It's always been my dream to work in an ice-cream store... i love ice-cream. I'm hoping to be promoted to ice-cream tester" I joked, sarcasticly. "Guess not" Joe muttered, chuckling. I laughed. "It's not exactly the best job in the world but... it gets me enough cash for my dream car" I explained, taking an ice-cream cone from Zoe; who was freaking out. "Dream car?? what kind?" Nick asked, saying the first words I ever heard him say. "Uh... a mini-cooper convertible" I answered. "No way, Joe has one. It's sweet" Nick said, his eyes brightening. "I know!! I saw it in a catalouge and I had to have it!!" I gushed. "Well... do you... want to try it out??" Joe offered. I stared. "You would.... you would let me.. drive your car?" I asked, suprised. This guy is nice.... really nice. "I couldn't I..." I began. "We insist" Nick said, pushing me out of the shop and outside. I looked back and saw Zoe, eyeing me enviously. I shot her an apologetic look and hopped into the car with them.

My hand drifted to the gear-shift and I shifted it to drive. I hesitated, unsure if I should continue. I looked towards Joe. He nodded encouragingly. I turned the key in the ignition and took off. Wind whipped through my hair and my mouth dropped. I giggled in delight and almost closed my eyes for a second until I realized that I was driving... go figure. he he. "You guys know I don't have a license right?" I teased. "What??!!" Joe screamed as I turned the corner. I chuckled. I love humans.
