Chapter 2:
Molly could hardly contain her excitement as her cousin came and picked her up the next day. Cassie pulled up in her Bentley and honked the horn at her. Cassie waved goodbye to her Dad and Mom and ran out to Cassie’s car.
“Bye girls! Have a good day in school!” yelled Molly’s Mom.
“Bye Auntie Terri.” waved Cassie and she revved the engine and sped off down the country road.
“Cassie, Cassie guess what?” said Molly excitedly.
“I don’t know, but I’m sure you are going to tell me.” laughed Cassie.
“Nick, Kevin and Joe are coming back into town today. Oh, and Nick texted me this morning to ask if after school we could pick Frankie up at preschool and take him to the airport. Mama Jonas had to go someplace and couldn’t take him to the airport with her. Is that okay?” asked Molly.
“That’s fine with me. I finally get to see Kevin again.” Cassie had a far away look in her eyes. Molly snapped in front of her face.
“Pay attention to the road, you don’t want to get in an accident.” said Molly.
Cassie laughed, “It’s not like our parents couldn’t pay for it together.” This was true. Molly and Cassie’s Dads were brothers and partners in a very successful law firm, Molly’s Mom was a brain surgeon and Cassie’s Mom was the head of some government agency. Both of their parents rolled in the big bucks.
“You still wouldn’t get a new car, unless you paid for it yourself this time.” teased Molly.
“Pfft, whatever.” Cassie rolled her eyes, and cranked up the volume on the radio. Taylor Swift’s ‘Our Song’ was on, and both girls started singing.
“Good thing we got our Dad’s musical genes and not our Mom’s.” laughed Cassie.
“Agreed; we would sound like dying cows if we did.” asked Molly.
“Have you thought about what you want to do after this year?” she asked back.
“No, but we are 15 and almost done school; we can decide in plenty of time.”
“Agreed.” suggested Cassie.
“Hey Cass, how come you never told me about you and Kevin?” Molly said, punching her shoulder.
“You never asked.” Cassie shrugged and pulled into the parking lot of the school. They got out of the car, and walked into the school. They said hi to all their friends before going to their lockers. Then an announcement came on the intercom and said:
“Remember students, Friday is the biggest dance of the year. So bring your date, dress and dance the night away!”
“Wow, our principle is so lame. Are you going to go to the dance?” asked Cassie.
“No, you know our dances are so lame. It’s not the biggest dance of the year anyway. That’s the end of the year one and that’s lame too. The only good dance I’ve ever had was graduating from middle school. Are you going to go?”
“Well, not if you aren’t going. That’s no fun.”
“I love how we do practically everything together. People that don’t know us would think we have no other friends.” laughed Molly.
“Well we do, but they are more like acquaintance-friends. Not good friends like us.” commented Cassie. Then the warning bell rang and everybody else started running to their homerooms.
“What do you have first?” asked Cassie.
“Guitar 30, how about you?” said Molly.
“Physics 30 and then math 30. This is going to be a long morning.”
“Well think about your lover at the end of the day and then it will go faster.” teased Molly, and ducked into her homeroom just as Cassie swiped at her head and the final bell rang.
“Molly, come sit over here.” called one of her friends. She smiled and went to join them. After homeroom, Molly went to guitar and Chemistry 30 and then Cassie went to get Molly and go for lunch. They drove off campus to find a good place to eat.
“Molly, are you hungry?” asked Cassie.
“Not really, do you want to just stop at Starbucks?”
“Fine with me.” said Cassie and they pulled up into a parking lot.
“Want to hear what I was thinking about during chem?” asked Molly.
“Hopefully chem!” laughed Cassie.
“No, how much fun it would be to be an agent.” Molly said dramatically.
“Like a super spy?” asked Cassie.
“Yeah, exactly!” exclaimed Molly.
“Like that guy standing over there?” Molly turned and looked where Cassie was pointing. A guy stood there with a black suit on, sunglasses and what looked like a microphone coming from his ear to a case in his hand.
“Pretty much. Cassie, I dare you to go ask him if he’s a spy.” said Molly.
Cassie never ever turned from a dare or a challenge so she stood up and walked over to the man. She tapped on his shoulder and asked him a couple of questions. Molly could hear snippets of their conversation.
“....Cassie Caloway, can I ask you a....”
“...as in Julie Caloway?”
“That’s my mom......”
“.....over there?”
“...cousin, Molly. She wants.......”
“......card, call me after you thought about it.” and with that, he turned and walked out the door. Cassie walked back to Molly and gave her a card as well.
“What did he say?” asked Molly.
“Well, I introduced myself and he asked if I was Julie Caloway’s daughter and gave me this card and this pen light and told me to think about it. But there is nothing written on this card.” she said.
“Give me that light.” said Molly, and she shined the pen light onto the card. It read:
CIA Spy Academy
If you think you have what it takes
to be a National Super Spy, contact the number
at the bottom.
647-725-9480
Molly gave Cassie a grin, and Cassie shook her head.
“No way, we are not going to be super spies. This is ridiculous and a joke.”
“Why not? Do you think he would have given them to you if he wasn’t serious? He knows your mom too, this must count for something.”
“Molly Rachelle Caloway, there is no way we were doing this.” said Cassie.
“Cassie Miranda Caloway, please just think about it.” Molly pleaded.
“We have to back to school now, I’m very sure about my answer. My parents won’t go for it anyway.”
“Mine will. Please Cassie?” begged Molly.
“You are never going to give up are you?”
“Nope.”
“Get out of the car and go to class.” said Cassie as they arrived back at school. Molly went inside the doors and Cassie sighed. She took out the blank card, stared at it for a second and took out her iphone. She dialed a number and heard the dial tone 2 times. On the third time, Cassie heard her mother’s voice.
“Mom?”
“Hey hun, what’s up?”
“This is going to sound weird, but what do you know about the CIA Spy Academy?”
