"Could you turn down that awful music?!" I screamed from the backseat. My older sister sneered at me.
"No." I glared.
"CASSIE!" I screamed.
"Cass, turn it down." My mother said. "Toby, turn down yours and stop yelling at your sister." She rubbed her forehead. I rolled my eyes.
Hey, I'm Toby.
I'm almost 14, I have earlobe-length layered, dirty blonde hair, freckles across my cheeks, brown eyes, tan skin, and I'm about as boyish as you can get without being one.
I sat in the backseat of our stupid old mini-van driving across the country to California, where my father made us move to for his job. I was currently wearing just an old black tank top, jeans, black Converse, and my "I love New York" baseball hat. I was listening to REAL music (well, "Saturday" by Fall Out Boy), while Cassie was listening to some retarded boy band.
"Oh... Look, girls. It says, 'Welcome to California.'" She sighed. "Finally." After about 10 minutes over driving, we entered downtown Los Angeles. I glared out my window.
"Girls, this is our house. Go kill each other for the best one." My mom said, stopping in front of it. Cassie squealed happily and ran up to the enormous house. I grabbed my two duffel bags full of my clothes. I felt my cell phone go off in my back pocket.
"Miss you already.<3 -Taylor" Flashed onto the screen. I sighed. Taylor was my best friend from New York, and I missed her to death. I glared at the bright blue sky and headed inside.
It was too hot here.
I almost got lost in that big house until I finally found a pair of spiral stairs in the laundry room. Maybe this was the way upstairs. I climbed them, but instead of another long hallway, I found a big wooden-floored room with purple walls. I smiled. This was my room. I could tell this not just because my boxes were in here(wow, my dad knows me too well), but because it... Pretty much screamed, "TOBY'S ROOM!" I proceeded to open the boxes, pulling out the blue plaid comforter and making the mattress that sat in the corner. After pretty much setting up everything in my room, even unpacking my clothes, I went outside and sat on the porch.
I fanned myself as a girl with long brown hair and crooked teeth bounced up to me.
"Hi! I see you just moved in!" She bounced up and down. I raised my eyebrows.
"Yeah....?" She looked familiar.
"I'm Miley! I live across the street." She shook my hand roughly. Taking it back, I stood up.
"Uh, I think you're looking for my sister. She's Cassie, and I'm Toby. Her room is upstairs." I pointed to the door. She took a step back and then turned to go into the house, then stopped and looked at me.
"...Thanks." She said uneasily before proceeding to step into our house. I rolled my eyes and looked down the street. I saw three guys playing basketball and shoving eachother around.
"That's more like it." I mumbled. I jogged down to them and lowered my voice to sound like a guys'. Who knows? Maybe they'll think I am one.
"Sup?" I greeted. They stopped and looked at me.
"Hey." The youngest looking one said back. "Did you just move in?"
"Yeah. I'm Toby." I said, taking his hand that he held out.
"I'm Joe." The second one said, shaking my hand.
"..And I'm Kevin." The third and oldest said. I nodded.
"Nick... Joe.. and Kevin?" I thought. "Oh *CENSORED*... These are the guys Cassie loves. And I'm playing.. Basketball with them?" I stared at them. Joe waved his hand in front of my face.
"Yo, dude. Are you ok?" He asked.
"Oh, yeah. Let's play."
"Oh... My... God."
