Before I go any further, I’ll give you some background information…My name is Katie Garretson, I’m 17, and my ultimate best friend is a boy named Joe Jonas. Yes yes, I know,” oh my god I cant believe your friends with Joe Jonas!!!” yeah well, I knew him since I were just little kids, playing with Barbie and barney. We grew up in New Jersey, but ironically enough we both moved to L.A. Joe and his family moved because the Jonas Brothers made it big, and I moved about 6 months after them with my family because my dad’s job. So now we both live in California, and we’re still best of friends, except I realized I’m kind of like in love with him or something. But I know I cant say a word about it, because I would hate for things to change.

Anyway, we’re coming home late on a Friday night, Joe asked if I could pick him up from his friends house, so we could grab something to eat.

“So why didn’t you come out tonight?” he asked trying to make conversation , after a slight awkward silence. “oh you know, I had a lot to do.” I said while stepping out of the car, since we reached the diner. Joe closed the door and I felt him staring at me with that “ yeah…right” look on his face. We walked up the stairs and he reached from behind me to open the door for me and him. “ what! I totally did.” I said trying to defend myself. “name 2 things.” he quickly said once we sat at a table. “ well, you wanna know about when I downed that slushy in 10 minutes, or when I…uh…tuned Roosevelt?” I said sounding pretty confident in my answers. “ you tuned your guitar, and downed a slushy… very impressive Katie the Great.” Joe said sarcastically. “so what did you do again?” I asked, quickly changing the subject. He let out a sigh and began talking again. “Well, we all were chillin’ at Jeremy’s house, then the girls showed up…..” he began. But again, I fell into my trance, and got lost in his eyes. I quickly snapped out of it when the waitress brought over our burgers that we ordered to go. We paid and headed back for the car, when I finally worked up the guts to ask him about something I was really curious about..

“Katie?….Katie!!!!” Joe yelled snapping me out of my trance. “ dude what?” I yelled back. “you almost hit that parked car, and I don’t think you listened to a word I just said!” He said laughing, but being serious. “ oh, uh, yeah I was, uhm, something about…err, uh.” I stuttered, while concentrating on the road. “Nice try Kate, it was weird, you were looking right at me, but we‘re listening.” he sweetly said while patting my shoulder. I blushed white I stared straight head hoping he didn’t notice what exactly I was looking at while he was talking. “ I told you your head was empty, things go in and right out of your ears.”

He’d never fall in love

There was a silent moment as we both picked at our food. I sat back with my water in hand and began softly singing and I lay my head back down, and I life my hands and…Joe made me stop because he started laughing, saying “jeaze, I love how you know randomly sing my favorite song.” I smirked and sunk in my seat shivering from the wind. Joe looked at his phone, then back up at me. “ well, its getting pretty late, do you have your key?” he asked. “ I sure hope so“, I said while getting up and grabbing the garbage. He laughed along with me then said “ we’ll I’ll just wait here until I see that you got in.” “k thanks Joe.” I said while walking out of the gate. “ hey Kate?” he called. “ yeah Joseph?” I answered as I reached my back door. “ why’d you ask me that before….?” he hesitantly asked. I paused, thinking about what I should say. But I then realized it really wasn’t the time so I simply said “ oh, no reason…. Night, love you Joe.” I said stepping into my house. “ ohh… later , love you too.” Joe mumbled. Then went inside, and right up to bed.
