So a few days ago, I had this title pop into my head. I was talking to Mel on aim at the time, and I told her about it. She said it was a cute title. She then told me she'd never had red bull. GASP! So this story popped into my head.
Hope you guys like it. I'm iffy about it, but yeah.
This is to Mel, who never ceases to amuse/amaze (amuzaze!) me!
Love on Red Bull
“You know,” Melissa said randomly as she and her three best friends made their way through the crowded airport, “I’ve never had Red Bull.”
Though this statement wasn’t one of any relevance to what was going on around them, she noticed that two of her friends seemed to always be carrying a can or two of that particular energy drink. Sure enough, they had the beverage in hand, and after hearing Melissa’s statement, both halted in their tracks.
“WHAT?” Nick said, inadvertently getting the attention of several people. Before they could react on seeing the Jonas Brothers, the three boys with Melissa in tow ran the few feet it took to reach the exit and piled into the van waiting for them.
Grinning from the rush, Joe downed his can of energy and looked at Melissa shocked. “You’ve been friends with us for years and you’ve never had a Red Bull?”
Melissa just nodded her head, wondering what the big deal was. Kevin, who was sitting next to Melissa, just laughed at the situation. Though he too enjoyed the drink, he preferred the warm comfort of coffee instead of the cold can of an energy drink.
“It’s official, you’re drinking one when we get back to the hotel,” Nick said, throwing his empty can in the garbage. “A big one.”
--
The ride ended quickly, and sooner than Melissa anticipated, she and her friends were in her hotel room, and she had a Red Bull thrust into her hands by a grinning Joe. Looking to Kevin for help, she found him laughing at the look of surprise on her face.
“Why am I scared?” She mumbled, looking at him worriedly.
His two brothers sat on the bed across from her and looked at her expectantly, waiting for her to experience their beloved beverage. Kevin was sitting next to her, and just shook his head.
“I’m gonna warn you, it tastes disgusting at first, but you get used to it.” Kevin said, opening it for her and taking the first drink.
Slowly, Melissa lifted the can to her lips and prepared to take a drink. It wasn’t as if she was worried about the drink or the people she was with, it was the fact that she knew just how hyper it made her friends. The taste of cough syrup filled her mouth as she took a drink, and she shuddered at the sweet bitterness.
Sticking her tongue out, she made a face at the drink, much to the amusement of Kevin and his brothers.
“Awesome, huh?” Joe said, taking a swig of his own can.
“Awesomely terrible.” Melissa said, handing the can to Kevin. “How can you drink that?”
Joe’s smile faded as he realized Melissa was dissing his drink. Rolling his eyes, he challenged Nick to a video game battle in the next room. Nick agreed quickly, leaving Melissa and Kevin alone in her room.
Though it was never really awkward when Melissa and Kevin were alone together, it was as if the friendship energy shifted to something else. They were each other’s best friends, and though neither wanted to say it, they felt as if they could easily be more.
“Take another drink, it tastes better after the first drink.” Kevin said, passing the can back to her. Melissa sighed, but did as she was told. It wasn’t as bad, but she knew it would take a lot more of it to get used to the odd flavor.
The two passed the drink back and forth, taking sips from it as they relaxed on the king size bed watching television. Melissa would grin whenever they flipped to a channel and she saw the face of the boy next to her, while Kevin would roll his eyes.
Suddenly, Melissa felt something stir inside. It was as if a sudden ball of energy hit her and the only way to release it was to hit Kevin.
“Ow!” He said, rubbing his arm where she’d just punched him. “What was that for?”
“I don’t know!” Melissa grinned, hugging him. “Do you feel excited? I’m excited. I think we should---ooh, look a penguin on tv!”
Kevin’s confusion suddenly turned to amusement as he realized the energy drink was taking effect. He watched his best friend jump from the bed only turn the volume up on the television as she danced to the song on a commercial.
“C’mon Kev!” She said, pulling him from the bed. The energy drink hadn’t taken effect to him as it had to her, but he was still amped up enough to act crazy with her.
--
“Okay, so that was ten minutes.” Melissa said. They’d just spent the last few minutes chasing each other around the hotel room. Rather, Melissa tried to chase Kevin while he mostly stood and laughed at her. “Who knew how long that really was? Did you know ten minutes was that long? I didn’t. Wow.”
“Mel?” Kevin said, breaking her from her intense conversation with herself about time.
“Yeah?”
“I don’t think you should ever have Red Bull again.” He stated. This caused her to frown in annoyance, as she realized her hyper behavior was induced by that very beverage.
“I think you’re right.” She agreed. Though she still felt the residual traces of excitement and hyperness inside, she was also coming to her senses as well. “Sorry about that.”
Kevin laughed before taking her hand and setting on the bed next to her. “You’re not as bad as my brothers though. Actually, you’re hilarious.” She scowled at him and removed her hand from his so she could hit him with it.
After that, she downed the last of the Red Bull and glared at him. “Ha, I drank it all!” She said proudly.
They sat in silence for a few minutes, and the hyper ball that exploded in Melissa’s body earlier hit her again, though a little less heavy than the first time.
Swaying from side to side, she leaned into Kevin who wrapped his arms around her. Under any other circumstances, Melissa would have shrugged it off as a friend thing, but under any other circumstances Melissa wasn’t as hyper and carefree as she was currently.
“Kev?” She called, relaxing into his embrace.
“Yeah?” He asked.
“This is nice.”
“Is that you or your hyper Red Bull self talking?” He asked curiously.
“Both, but mostly just me. Why?”
And then Kevin surprised them both by turning her around, taking her face in his hands and kissing her gently on the lips. “Because I don’t want this to be love on Red Bull.”
And that’s when Melissa knew she never needed another Red Bull in her life. As long as Kevin kissed her like that, she would be hyper for eternity.
