Chapter Once
She felt the cold night time breeze fall across her shoulders, and then pulled the light sweater on her tighter. The warm coffee in her hands wasn’t helping that much, except for keeping her up later to think more about her situation. The full moon was shining, bright in the midnight sky. The wind started to pick up, making her hair blow wildly across her porcelain face. She looked around herself at her surroundings; the ones she had known for a long time were gone, now she was forced to move into the small two bedroom apartment in the middle of LA. The house she had once known was gone, for someone else to take as their own. The familiar faces around her neighborhood were gone, making her feel uncomfortable as a tall, lanky man strode up the staircase, and made his way to his room.
Remedy shook all of the dire thoughts from her head, and grabbed the silky cover of the photo album, and stood up from her position on the tiny porch of her apartment. Her muscles ached from sitting in the uncomfortable position on the wooden porch. Shaking the feeling from her legs, she walked swiftly back into the empty apartment. The air was crisp and freezing, visibly saying that the heater was not on. She set the book down deep inside the crevices of her bag, and grabbed a pair of pajamas. The bathroom was down the hall, due to the large amount of people, everyone had to share it. There was a women’s restroom to the right, and a men’s restroom to the left. They both intersected and then took their separate paths. There was a young man walking out the men’s bathroom, swiftly running the towel through his glossy brown, curly hair. The way his hazel eyes shimmered next to his bright complexion, made Remedy’s heart stop for a few seconds. She stopped dead in her tracks, and gapped, mouth wide open, eyes bug eyed. He was just so beautiful, everything about him was perfect. The small fact that she had lost feeling in her hands made her drop her bag of toiletries. Everything went on the hard tile ground, right in front of the perfect boy who just walked out of the restroom.
He stopped dead in his tracks, and looked down on Remedy, who was trying her hardest not to hyperventilate. Remedy’s cheeks flamed, and her ears turned a bright cherry red. She bent down on her knees and started to force everything into her little bag, all the time her hands shaking. The boy, who looked around her age, bent down next to her and grabbed a couple of the things she had missed. And handed them back to her.
“Sorry about that,” the almost man said, smiling a gorgeous grin in her direction. Just seeing him pulled on her heart strings, yet hearing his voice made her feel like she was going to faint.
“No, its ok, I am naturally clumsy,” Remedy said, forcing a smile onto her face. She grabbed up her bag, but he stood up before she even got a chance to move. He offered her a hand up, which she gladly took. When she took his soft, big hand, feeling the warmth radiate from his hand onto hers made her almost lose her breath. After she got on her feet, and regained her balance, she felt a little better.
“I am really sorry about that,” the boy said, “my name is Kevin.”
Putting a name to the face made Remedy feel almost excited about meeting him.
“Its fine, all of my stuff is floor proof,” Remedy said, realizing that she still was holding his hand, let go immediately, causing a small smile from Kevin, “My name is Remedy.”
“Wow, that’s a really unique name,” Kevin said, “Remedy,” he said, rolling the sound of it on his tongue.
“Well, I’d better get going, I need to take a shower by tonight, and spilling things on the floor takes up my time,” Remedy said, a small smile spreading on her face.
“Yea, sure, well I guess I’ll see you around sometime,” Kevin said, uttering a laugh. Gosh, when he laughed, his features on his face sparkled, and it seemed every girl walking out the bathroom stopped dead in her tracks. That laugh was contagious; he mesmerized anyone who heard it.
“See you later,” Remedy said, lightheaded. She waved goodbye to Kevin, and made her way to the inside of the bathroom. Wow, was all she could think, she was a regular girl, who just met a really amazing guy. No guy in college, or high school could compare to him.
