[[Chapter Two: Christine's POV]]

I was at my desk writing another poem when I heard my parents arguing with eachother for the tenth time this week. I knew my mother was tired and fed up with the house smelling like alcahol everytime. She was tired of finding empty beer bottles and burnt out cigarettes everywhere. I swallowed the lump in my throat and slowly walked to my door. I creaked it open and listened. "You have six children to think of!" my mother shouted. "Don't you care!?". I think my father threw an empty beer bottle at the wall. "Shut up! I never liked your first seventeen year old brat!" he cried. I bit my bottom lip and tried to hold back my tears. He was talking about Jordan. "She's eighteen!" my mother shouted back. "And if you were paying attention to your children you'd know!"

I heard a chair being thrown around. Now I wished that I'd gone with Jordan to the mall. All my siblings were out exept me. The livingroom was very quiet suddenly. Then, I heard the door slam and a car engine driving off in the distance. Thinking it was safe, I opened the door and slowly crept downstairs. I found my mother on her knees crying. "Mom?" I asked softly. She looked at me with red blood shot eyes. 'Christine?" she asked softly. "You're still home? I thought you went out with Jordan" she replied. I shook my head. "Where's daddy?" I asked softly. I had never called my father 'daddy' before. I thought it was just too childish. She gulped. "We're divorcing Christine" she said quietly. My heart skipped a beat. Divorce? What? Maybe I heard her wrong. "What?' I asked. She sighed. "We're divorcing. Seperating for good" she repeated.

I felt tears in my eyes. I knew my parents argued alot. And my parents have always said that one day they'd have a divorce. But I never thought it was true. I always thought they were kidding. "You've lived with a father for eighteen years now honey" she said. "It's going to change from now on". I couldn't find any words to say to her. Instead I just ran off managing to slip on my black flats. "Christine!" I heard my mother call. "Come back!". I ran and ran ot able to stop. I was always a good athlete at my school so I could run pretty fast. I bumped into someone's arms and looked up. It was my boyfriend, Max. "Christine?" he asked worriedly.

I buried my face in his chest and began to cry. He wrapped his arms around me embracing me in a hug as he did what he could to comfort me. "Is it that bad now?" he asked softly. I nodded. "They're divorcing Max" I said quietly between sobs. "Were you on your way to my house?" I asked my tears still in my eyes. He nodded. "I was on my way to.. nevermind" he said quickly. I looked up into his brown eyes and smiled. Max could always put a smile on your face no matter what. Like me, he was a serious athlete. He was on the football team as star quarter back. We've been going out for a year and a half now and nothing could seperate us. Our love was endless.

I heard someone call his name and looked to find a girl running towards us. I was free from his grasp as my eyes met hers. "Maxie" she said smiling. I felt my heart slowly breaking. Maxie? No one ever called him that exept me. What was going on? Who was she? Max sighed. He knew he couldn't hide forever. The tall brunette haired dark skinned brown eyed girl looked at me. "Christine" he began as he wrapped his arm around her waist. My heart instantly broke. "Meet my girlfriend Larina" he said. "Lar-bear.. meet my.." he stopped. "Meet Christine" he said pulling me in for a hug. I resisted his arms. He looked down at me confused. I wanted to cry. I really wanted to. But I couldn't. I guess I'd been crying for so many years now, I was out of tears. "Chris? You okay?" he asked softly. I shook my head. "You said you loved me" I said. "What does she have that I don't?"

Larina gave me a disgusted look. "Maxie.. let's go" she said. I could tell she was mixed. Puerto Rican and Italian. Max nodded and looked at me. His eyes were pleading for my forgivness. "We can still be friends right?" he asked kissing me on the cheek for the last time. I didn't answer him. No. "Bye Chris" he said before walking away with Larina. I didn't know Larina. But I've seen her around the neighbourhood. She's been flirting with Max when we were still going out and my friends reported to me that he's been flirting with her behind my back. I wanted to ask him if it was true, but I couldn't find the time to. I decided to walk now, since my feet were killing me. I had run two blocks already and was pretty close to the park. Once I got there, I sat under the tree I usually sat under when I felt confused or lost. I laid my head against the bark and closed my eyes allowing the tears to roll down my cheeks.
