It was one thing to fantasize about this kind of stuff, but its another to experience it. The lace of space given was disrespectful but the flashing lights were beautiful.
“So you came all the way here from New York?” Daniel glanced at us as he drove his car, “All just to make it big time?”
“Basically,” Nick rolled his brown eyes.
I flashed at look at Nick in the mirror I held in my hand. I caught a glimpse of my aqua blue eyes and quickly looked away. Leaving New York was the only thing that caught me off guard. I loved New York—but I loved Nick more.
“It’s pretty complicated,” I shrugged.
“How are you sure it’s all gonna just happen for you guys?” Daniel asked.
“I know Leah Christine,” Nick said confidently.
“She’s going to help you guys out?” Daniel asked.
I stared at the tabloid that sat on the bottom on Daniel’s car. I picked it up and stared at the front cover page, Leah Christine Winters. Every point of her was just pin point perfect; from her golden green eyes and her honey blonde hair, from her long legs and model perfect body.
“Of course,” Nick nodded, “She owes me a favor.”
“You were specific with her right?” Daniel asked, “She only does what you ask at that moment, you know that right?”
I watched Nick swallow his words and nodded. He looked down at his fingernails and never looked up. I couldn’t help but sink in my seat—thinking this trip was useless.
After Nick explained to Daniel that we needed to get to Leah’s house, Daniel agreed to be the driver for the day. I closed my eyes and leaned my head against the car window. The vibes Nick sent out scared me, sending me to sleep.
I held the fresh flowers in my hand and tightened my grip on them. The sight of the graveyard itself sent chills running down my spine. The reason why I stood here gave me tears.
“He’s in a better place now Madeline,” My mother looked down at me.
I stared up at her. I felt my eyes hold back tears as I did my best to believe in Julia Bridges. But nothing my mother could say would bring him back.
“Today, we pray for the peace of Paul Kevin Jonas…”
“Maddie!” Daniel shook my shoulder gently, “We’re here.”
I rubbed my eyes with my hands and sighed. I leaned over and rested my head on my lap for a second before sitting up.
I sat up and looked out the window. The blonde hair, the green eyes; Leah Christine was more perfect in person. I watched as Nick hugged her body, tightly wrapping his arms around her, and spinning her around. My stomach turned.
“Listen, if you ever want to get…uhm…lunch,” Daniel stuttered.
My eyes were glued to Nick. His lips were attached to Leah’s. I could only imagine the happiness coursing through his veins, pumping his heart. I turned to Daniel and held back tears.
“I’d love to get lunch,” I looked him in the eyes, “Now.”
