Chapter One: He liked Cornpops!
*One Month Later*
On June 4th, we went to the funeral of David John Smith. Demi stood with her hair framing her face and her hands clasped together. She had silent tears runng down her cheeks as her father talked about David. "He was a great person, only sixteen. He had a short life, but a great one. He was a great brother, son, and friend. And he also liked cornpops, that is for sure." Demi and I exchanged a smile. He did, he would always grab a box when we watched TV, but he usually ended up attacking us with them.
After the funeral, Demi's family was walking around, but then stopped to talk to Mom and Dad. I didn't feel the need to smile anymore. I didn't even feel like I should be living. I killed my best friend. All because I wasn't paying attention to the road. I'm sure Demi's family would never talk to me again. Demi just glanced at me as the parents talked. "Joe....I gotta.....I gotta talk to you okay?" Demi grabbed my arm and pulled my away. "You know how my family is really from Arizona?" I nodded. "Well, we're moving back to be with my grandparents. I have no idea if we'll be back, I just wanted you to know." Demi said, her face emotionless. I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tightly. "When are you moving?" I asked. "Thursday." I counted on my fingers, it was Tuesday. One, two, three. In three days. They'd be moving. My best friends family would be moving to Arizona. I guess I'll have no memory of David after this, since Dmei always made me think of him. David and Demi looked incredibly alike, and they acted the same.
"Well, I probably won't see you for the rest of the day, or tomorrow. We have a lot of things to do so......Bye." Demi stood on her tiptoes and kissed me on the cheek lightly. As she walked away, I felt the place on my cheek. Demi Smith, age 15 in three days, kissed me. But I never really thought of her as "attractive" really, she was always David's annoying little sister, but now, as she walked to the family car, she became extremly attractive.
