Operation: Name in Lights

“I’ll get it,” I sang excitedly noticing the doorbell had quickly chimed I placed the bulky pitcher of tea onto the counter for Gabby to grab and pushed the silver refrigerator door closed.
“Okay” Gabby sang back giggling. It was official, Friday had now begun, and the craziness of being Gabby’s best friend was about to begin
“Wow, he must be pretty speedy today” I commented heading for the doorway.
Leaping over the vacuum cleaner, I skipped to the door. Figuring it was Patrick, I swiftly turned the knob and swung the door wide open. I froze in place the minute the fresh Friday afternoon sunlight lightened my face and burst into the dining room.
That’s not Patrick
I must have looked like an idiot because my lower jaw immediately dropped when the opening of the door revealed 3 guys standing on the red bricks of my porch.
It seems I should explain myself before I move forward any more.
Profile: [the following information is classified]
Operative: Kati Chase
Field Name: Kiwi
Eye Color: ocean blue mixed with a slight tint of aqua
Hair Type: dirty blonde – low shoulder length, layered and slightly feathered
Personality: shy, but outgoing. Crazy, but calm. Mature, but childish. In other words, Operative is an enjoyable person with hidden sides and features
Specialty: Acting
Goal: to have Operative’s name in lights – so to speak
I’m Kati Chase, a small town girl living in Colorado Springs. To put my life in a nutshell, I’m a complete and total nerd. Straight A’s for almost my entire life really doesn’t get you much in the social ladder of high school, especially when you’re a freshman. Known as one of the school’s geniuses, I’m not exactly popular. In fact; for my first 2 years of Middle School, I was practically a social reject, that was until I met Gabby.
Profile: [the following information is classified]
Side Operative: Gabriela Adams
Field Name: Gabby
Eye Color: sour apple green with a glassy finish
Hair Type: dark brunette – shoulder length, plainly straightened with bangs lightly flipped to one side
Personality: Side Operative is what you may say as crazy. Completely outgoing and hyper 24/7
Specialty: Acting and Music
Goal: Unknown – Side Operative is currently “going with the flow” – so to speak, but would “absolutely most definitely love to have name in lights with Operative Chase”
Gabby had been my absolute best friend since the beginning of 8th grade. She is practically my twin – personality wise, except I knew how to be calm. Gabby is one of those people who have never ending dreams and always have something up her sleeve. She is also an incredible socialite and brought me up from the depths of nerd kingdom. Gabby also is one of those genuine beauties that no one really paid attention to, except Patrick.
Profile: [the following information is classified]
Side Item: Patrick Green
Eye Color: a piercing aqua blue [according to Side Item Adams, they are “super sexy”]
Hair Type: slick straight black hair – short and ear length, no hair out of place
Personality: Calm, cool and relaxed – or so it seems
Specialty: Music [Patrick is a beast at guitar, and he can sing like an angel]
Goal: to sign a record deal [Patrick completes the trio by also wanting to be known in the world]
Patrick found Gabby earlier in the 8th grade year. Patrick was practically perfect for Gabby, not just because of his towering 6.1 height [a full 2 inches above Gabby – that made her happy] and rock hard abs, but Patrick was kind, soft, and loving. I have to say I was pretty jealous considering I didn’t have a boyfriend, but I didn’t really blame anyone for that.
Current Status of Operative Chase: [listing required for mission]
Availability: Single [okay, so I’m single. At least I can say I’m proud…or not. Anyway, I try not to focus on guys. My goal is to become famous – I feel a calling to it, and I guess that a boy would just get in the way…or that’s what I tell myself.]
Current Status of Side Operative Adams: [listing required for mission]
Availability: Taken [and happy]
I have to say, my life is pretty low key. Although I have acting cl.asses almost everyday of the week, nothing too exciting happens. I figured it would always be that way until I somehow by some miracle broke through and became the actress I wanted to be – or so I thought.
“No, No and No!” Joe yelled trying his hardest not to burst out in tears of laughter, “Remember the last time you took us somewhere to spend ‘quality brother time’ when we had a couple days off?” I started to crack up at the thought of the last time Kevin took us fishing when we had a few days off before our next show in Wyoming.
“But guys, this time is different. We’ll stay in the car I promise, and Joe, I do remember you were the one that stopped us from fishing at all because you didn’t want to use the hook because they would hurt the fish,” Kevin snapped. I fell back on the cream, hotel couch grasping my stomach and trying not to cry.
“How manly was that?” I laughed trying to settle down so I wouldn’t suffocate.
“I didn’t want to hurt the fish! You guys have no heart!” Joe replied trying not to burst out laughing from what he had just said, “It was because of you, Kevin that we all fell in the lake and had to find our way back to the hotel soaking wet and smelling like fish”
Running my fingers through my hair, I sat up as we each took a breath and tried to discuss the matter at hand. We had just got into Colorado Springs and arranged to have a couple of days off before we did our show and continued on with the tour. Kevin wanted to take us up to the mountains, but that wasn’t going to happen on my watch. Every time Kevin wanted us to spend some real ‘brother bonding time’ something went wrong. It wasn’t Kevin, it was usually Joe, but I didn’t want to get into another situation.
“Don’t pick on Kevin, you guys, he just wants to spend some time with you doing stuff that normal brothers do. If you guys can even be normal,” Faye giggled as she came up from behind to hug Kevin. Faye was Kevin’s girlfriend and had been since we had met her during one of our radio show interviews. Kevin turned around to hug Faye tightly back and push some of her soft red hair away from her face.
“But seriously, Kev, if you in any way hurt your self, so help me…” Faye started but she was interrupted by Kevin’s loving tone.
“I won’t, babe, I promise, just make these dweebs come with me,” Kevin laughed as he looked me straight in the eyes.
“Go with him, dweebs,” Faye winked as she nudged us all out the door.
I grunted as a drug my feet across the elegant green hotel carpet and out the door.
This is going to be a long night.
“Where are we,’ I questioned as I lifted my head off of my hand to peer out the window of the rental car.
“We are in the beautiful mountains, Nicholas, can’t you tell by all the houses?” Joe joked from the front seat as he gave Kevin an evil stare.
“Okay, so I got a little lost, but I’ll be out of here in no time. Forgive me, I’m only human,” Kevin explained as he kept his eyes fixed on the road.
“You’re forgiven,” I replied knowing that Kevin really didn’t deserve to be lectured, “But how did you end up in a neighborhood.”
“Well, you see, Joe said that, well…” BANG PShHHhhhhhhh, “What was that?” Kevin yelled frantically looking through his window toward the tires. I lifted my eyebrows, unbuckled my seat belt, and jumped in between the two front seats.
“Congratulations, Kev, you just popped a tire!” Joe said in a talk show voice and quickly opened his car door as I wiggled my way to the front seats and out the door.
“Man,” Kevin said running his fingers through his curly mess of hair, “What do we do now? Mom and Dad are at an amusement park with Frankie, the band is out to eat…”
“What about you wo-man,” Joe laughed popping his hip out like a girl, “She is supposed to be like superman…except a girl, isn’t she.”
“She is probably out with the band, and I don’t see you with a girlfriend that can save us,” Kevin replied raising his eyebrow waiting for Joe’s answer.
“Hey, I am single and proud.” Joe said striking a pose. I rolled my eyes and sighed sharply, “Plus, Nick doesn’t have a girlfriend either, I mean he would call Miley…I mean…” Joe stopped noticing what he was saying. I didn’t blame him, he really didn’t think before he talked. I lowered my eyes to my feet quickly trying to erase the subject from my head.
“Joe, stop,” Kevin said softly noticing my watering eyes.
The whole Miley thing really hurt me, and, well, I really didn’t like to talk about it. Quickly whipping my head up, I acted like I didn’t hear a thing and stared at the houses.
“Well I guess we can ask somebody if they have a spare, I mean, we are in a neighborhood,” I suggested surveying the houses around us.
“That one,” Joe said spontaneously as he pointed toward a simple looking house with red bricks and a white garage door.
“Okay,” I said leading the way toward the door. I stepped up onto the porch and swiftly rang the door bell.
“Remember, we don’t know who this could be so be prepared for any…” I was cut off with by the door swinging open.
Whoa
I sighed sharply as Gabby and I collapsed on the blue pillows of the couch in the upstairs playroom. Finally, the house was clean, and I was actually proud. I hated chores - who didn’t? – But now I was done and the weekend was officially starting!
“YAY! You’re done. So, can Patrick come over now?” Gabby asked giggling shyly as she swiftly texted on her blackberry. Gabby, Patrick and I always hung out as a trio, and even though the house was empty except for me and Gabby, I knew my parents would be okay with Patrick coming over. They trusted him like a son, which was a little odd since he wasn’t even my boyfriend.
“Sure,” I said taking an enormous breath as I rested my head on the back of the couch, “let me get this vacuum down stairs first.” I jerked my body off the couch as Gabby texted Patrick. I lifted the vacuum cleaner and started the trek down the stairs, Gabby skipping after me.
I carried the vacuum cleaning into the kitchen and set it down gently as I opened the refrigerator. Suddenly a chime came springing from our doorbell just as I pulled a pitcher of Iced tea down for Gabby to take.
“I’ll get it,” I sang excitedly noticing as I pushed the silver refrigerator door closed.
“Okay” Gabby sang back giggling. It was official, Friday had now begun, and the craziness of being Gabby’s best friend was about to begin
