Chapter 5
Walking into the hallway, I searched for the girl’s parents. I turned left and found them sitting in the family room watching Iron Chef.
“Mrs…um…” I stopped realizing I never caught their last name.
“Chase,” Mrs. Chase replied smile and nodding her head for me to continue.
“Mrs. Chase, my mom would like to talk to you, if that is okay,” I said slightly lifting my iphone up signaling that she was currently on the phone.
“Well, of course it is okay,” Mrs. Chase said politely smiling as I brought her the phone. She pushed her blonde hair behind her ear and held the iphone gently as if it was to break at any moment. I heard a few “Okay’s”, “Certainly’s” and “No problem’s” before she delicately hung up the phone and reached if out for me to grab it. I smiled slightly and waited for the situation at hand.
“Kevin, you and your brothers will spend the night here, so that no one will go through any trouble. I promise we will take good care of you, and we have just enough room for you.” Mrs. Chase explained with a smile plastered on her face. My cheeks burned from embarrassment. I hated have to be taken care of. I was 20 and I should have been able to get my brothers back to the hotel in no time. Sadly, that wasn’t true and with my little since of direction and Joe’s constant jabbering in the car to distract me, I decided that I had to take the offer no matter how much I hated it.
“Thanks so much, Mrs. Chase. I’m so sorry about any trouble we may have caused! We will pay you back, I promise.” I said trying to make up for the burden we were putting on a family we just met.
“It’s no problem, really. If you could send Kati in here so I can get her to get the guest room ready for you.” Mr. Chase stated placing his arm around Mrs. Chase’s shoulders.
“Sure,” I said walking out of the room and back to the dining room where Joe and Nick sat talking to the girls. Nick had a slight smile on his face as he stared at the one girl I assumed was Kati. His face was rosy and fresh as Kati listened to a brunette girl talk about a time Kati tried to sing at a karaoke and ended up breaking the microphone. Nick leaned further back on the couch, rested his hands behind his head and played with his curls. My mouth dropped slightly and I stopped before they could notice me enter the room. I hadn’t seen Nick’s face light up like that since he was going out with Miley. I could tell he was serious, but he didn’t want to go into it fast. Suddenly my cell phone rang, revealing my hiding spot in the corner of the hall.
When you looked into my eyes
And you dared to stare right back
You should have said
Nice to meet you, I’m your other half
“Kevin?” I heard Joe question as he craned his neck to peer into the hallway. I quickly walked out of the hallway and out onto the porch again. I looked down at my iphone that was still ringing. I grinned when I saw a picture of me and Faye smiling and hugging the giant, stuffed hippo I won her at a local carnival.
“Hey babe, what’s shakin’?” I asked picking up the phone.
“Paul Kevin Jonas II, do you have any idea how much trouble you’re in?” Faye answered trying to sound angry but I could hear the giggle in her voice. That made me smile even more.
“No, but I hope we can kiss and make up soon,” I said trying my hardest to work my charm.
“Kevin,” Faye finally let her giggles go and erupt through the phone, “just tell me where you are.” I sighed a little taking in the sound of her voice. It had only been one about 3 hours and I already missed her.
“I’m in a neighborhood near the mountains. We popped a tire and had to go to a house for some help. My mom talked to them and we are going to spend the night here. I’ll be home in the morning and I’ll take you out for breakfast,” I explained biting my lip hoping that would make her forgive me faster.
“Oh, well, I’ll miss you…” She said drifting off.
Ah! It’s these moments I live for, when I just know she loves me back
“I’ll miss you even more,” I said smiling slightly knowing I would.
“So, how are the boys holding up? Are they too hurt that they’ll be spending even more ‘brotherly bonding time’ at a complete stranger’s house?” She asked. I peered in through the front window to find Nick’s gaze to be fixed on Kati, and Kati giggling slightly at something Nick was saying.
“Joe always makes the best of things, and Nick…”I paused to look at the two again. “Well, Nick, I think he’ll be fine.”
“What makes you say that?”
“I’ll tell you over that breakfast I promised tomorrow,” I said smiling at the sunset that was fading behind the mountains.
“Okay…just don’t get into any trouble Kev,” Faye giggled.
“I won’t, babe, I promise.”
“Yeah, that’s what you said last time, remember?” she giggled
“I love you” I said, I couldn’t get her picture out of my mind.
“Love you more.”
And with that we hung up.
I have the perfect girlfriend
