Chapter 22
RIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG
The alarm screamed through my ear making me shoot straight up fixing my eyes on the closed door of my bedroom. Quickly tapping the snooze button on the little gray alarm clock I frowned realizing where I was.
Wait…what? My room? Wasn’t I just at the acting center with Nick…
Scratching my head I yawned observing the tightly tucked covers that were on top of me. Letting out a deep sigh I felt a rush of disappointment overwhelm me.
Great Kati, now we are dreaming about him…I wonder where Gabby is…I hope Patrick did well on his auditio…
A piercing scream surged out of my body as I slowly turned my head to see Gabby on the other side of my bed clenching her eyes as my scream echoed through my ears.
“Gabby…what are you doing here? I thought…” I stuttered as my jaw dropped as Gabby only creaked open the one eye that wasn’t squished up against my purple pillow. Pulling air through her nose, Gabby sleepily rolled onto her back and stretched her arms behind her head. She obviously wasn’t awake yet.
“What do you mean what am I doing here?” Gabby croaked gently closing her eyes again and relaxing her head.
“I mean what are you doing here, did you just break into my house because last I thought you were going to that audition with Patrick and not coming to my house till noon or so, I mean I know your excited about the concert…but sleeping over at my house without me know…isn’t that a little extreme I mean come on Ga…” Her hand slapped over my mouth making stopping all rambling from escaping.
“Okay, you obviously don’t know what you are talking about, but I’ll cut you some slack and just tell you to look at the note on the table next to you,” Gabby said turning her head to the opposite side and taking a deep breath trying to slip back asleep. Hesitantly I looked over to my bed side table to see a piece of paper. Snatching is up I quickly scanned it causing my stomach to drop.
Kati,
Kevin, Joe, and I dropped you and Gabby off at your house after what happened last night. I didn’t want to wake you, so I just kept you in my arms till we got you home. Kati, I want you to know that I am truly sorry for everything that happened, and I will do everything I can to make it up to you. We will be dropping by around 7 in the morning before we leave for Wyoming. Sorry if that is a little early. See you then

So it wasn’t a dream?
I swear, if I said all my thoughts aloud, I would sound like a complete lunatic. Biting my lip, I looked at Gabby who was now turned on her other side facing the closet. Not that I wasn’t enormously happy that the whole Nick Jonas rocking me to sleep actually happened, but now clearing up that everything that happened last night wasn’t a dream…that meant every hope Gabby and I had of becoming actresses was practically gone too…and that was hard to get over. Running my fingers through my hair I looked over at the clock soon springing out of the bed.
“Gabby lets go, it’s like 7:08, get up they are supposed to be here,” I sped across the room toward my mirror and froze confused to realize I still had my clothes on from last night. Spinning around from the mirror I looked at Gabby who was now hiding under the covers in a tight ball trying not to listen to the sound of my voice.
“Gabby, lets go, get out of bed, unless you don’t want to say goodbye to the one in only Jonas Brothers,” a strong smile beamed on my face. Just the thought of getting to see Nick made my heart flutter…even if it might be the last time I see him in who knows how much time. Gabby was silent not moving a muscle, the only sound she made was the rush of air coming harshly in and out of her nose.
“Gabby…” I asked quietly lifting the covers away from Gabby to reveal her curled up and crying into her knees. Slightly stepping back I took a minute to soak in what I was watching. Gabby wasn’t one to break down…in fact I had never really seen her cry, but as I watched the tears flood from Gabby’s eyes to the sheets on the bed…I didn’t want to ever see her cry like that again…if Gabby Adams couldn’t hold up…there was no hope for me.
“Gabby…what’s the matter…?” I softly said as I locked my eyes on her.
“I’m sorry Kati, I’m sorry for yelling at you I just…I just can’t take it…we lost everything…and I blamed it on you and Nick and I shouldn’t have and I didn’t remember and now everything is done and…we can’t get it back…I wrecked it…Its over,” Gabby choked on her tears as flashbacks of last night ran through my mind and every bit of energy dripped away from me…I had forgotten about the whole Gabby blaming me part- that only made things worse last night, but right now, Gabby was gone and distant. She deserved to be forgiven, so I tried not to think twice about it.
“Gabby, don’t be sorry, we’ll get through this…there will be other auditions, we’ll get there I promise…” I faintly said frozen in my position
I just have no idea how…
Suddenly a chime rang through the door bell whipping my eyes open and sending Gabby jumping off of the bed, wiping the tears right off her cheeks and throwing me some shorts and a t-shirt, while she flipped her hair into a ponytail. I would have been totally flustered about going out in my pajamas with my hair slightly in a mess and only left over make up on…but I was going to get to see Nick again…and right now…that’s all that mattered. Gabby dashed down the stairs in my polka dotted pajama pants and a swimming t-shirt while I followed her as my stomach jumping with every step. Gabby grabbed the gold-colored door knob and slowly opening it just to irritate me. Shooting her a glare, she flung the rest of the door open to reveal Mrs. Jonas’s bright and sunny face smiling widely at us with Mr. Jonas right behind her.
“Good Morning, girls, if you don’t mind, Mr. Jonas and I are going to go talk to your parents, Kati, the boys are down by the tour bus,” Mrs. Jonas chirped as Gabby and I back up slightly to let Mr. and Mrs. Jonas through the door. Gabby leaned over and peered out the door to see Joe, Kevin and Faye standing by the door of their enormous tour bus. How no one in the neighborhood had come out screaming and attacking the brothers yet, I had no clue, that was probably going to happen quite soon but I shuffled behind Gabby down the steps of the porch hoping that I could get to Nick before anyone else did. As we approached the bus, I scanned over who stood in front of us with ‘way to bright for morning smiles’…well at least on Kevin and Faye, Joe stood sleepily but still managed to pull a small smile on his face…then, yet again, my stomach dropped in panic when the only curly head standing in front of Gabby and I was Kevin. The slight sunlight shining through the trees reflected off of the bus and into my eyes as the March morning breeze flew past us. Pulling air through my nose, I bit my lip disappointed searching the sides of the bus with my eyes. Standing across from Faye near the front of the bus, I shook my head slightly to snap out of my disappointment and focus on the people in front of me.
“Good Morning Ladies,” Kevin smiled sipping his Starbucks, “Did we have a good nights’ sleep?” Both Gabby and I nodded silently though I had a horrible head ache from trying to figure out where I was this morning. Too much confusion doesn’t do much for a girl at 7 in the morning.
“Are you guys okay, I heard about everything that happened last night…” Faye faded searching my eyes in case she had said something wrong. My mouth dried as I cleared my throat, though I said everything was going to be okay…I truly knew it wasn’t going to be and every time that subject was brought up I feel like I could just break down and cry.
“Yeah, we are,” Gabby smiled the bubbly feeling back in her voice which made me grin, I was glad she was Gabby again.
“Hooray, I knew you guys couldn’t stay mad at each other,” Joe yawned half asleep as I bit my lip absorbing the awkward silence. None of us wanted to say goodbye…or at least I knew me and Gabby didn’t want to.
“So, we’ll be leaving for Wyoming, then to the Dakotas then back to New Jersey, but I don’t think we can live without talking to you girls, so howa bout we exchange phone numbers,” Kevin said breaking the silence of the morning.
“Yeah, totally, we have Nick’s, but we totally need you guys’ number so I will have something to do in algebra for the rest of the year,” Gabby smiled whipping out her blackberry as Kevin smiled and did the same.
“Wait…how did you get Nick’s number?” Joe snapped out of his sleepy mode as I locked my eyes on the sunrise and took a deep breath. I decided to let Gabby answer this one because my thoughts scattered throughout my brain as I bit my lip wishing Nick was standing in front of me. Suddenly I felt a hand grab mine and jerk me from the front of the bus and around to the other side.
Um…ow
Shaking my head slightly I looked up to see Nick’s deep brown eyes peering around the corner of the bus to make sure the others weren’t look. Smiling lightly I let his glassy, warm gaze surge through my body.
“This has isn’t going to become a habit with you is it?,” I asked smiling as Nick’s curly hair blew slightly with the breeze as he stood up in front of me with a slight grin on his face. Silence fell upon Nick and I while we just stood there staring at different parts of the black street pavement as my heart fluttered reminding me that I had to say something...before he left.
“Um, well, look, Nick…I’m sorry about last night, none of it was your fault, you don’t owe us anything, I’ll try to get another audition, I don’t know when or how but it is our fault not yours and the only thing I’m worried about right now is how I’m going to survive for like 5 months without you here, I just, I mean I know me can text and everything bu..” Suddenly the stupid rambling coming out of my mouth was cut off by my heart practically leaping out of my chest as Nick grabbed my waist and pressed his lips against mine leaving me stunned and my head to grow dizzy like I had just rode the carousel 16 times at full speed. I wobbled on my feet slightly before putting my hands around his neck then pushing myself closer to him. Nick pulled away then pressed his forehead against mine as I blinked slowly a few times to comprehend what just happened.
Umm…did I just kiss Nick Jonas...?
Smiling slightly at the thought I kept my forehead pressed against his and looked up at his deep brown eyes that were glazed over and gleaming making me bit my lip and smile.
“Sorry,” Nick cleared his throat slightly then pulled away from me looking toward the ground as I gathered myself still trying to catch my thoughts that sped through my head,
“I just, I…well, I wanted to…before we…well,” Before Nick could finish I wrapped my arms around his neck once more and pressed my lips against his. This left me thoroughly confused…I had never even kissed a guy before, yet here I was…but hey, I wasn’t complaining.
Okay…I’ll just step away now…you know, just in case he is freaked out and I need a head start to running back to the house…or maybe to another country…that’s good too
Pulling back I smiled shyly sending immediate fire rush to my cheeks forcing me to stare at the ‘oh so familiar’ ground while I stepped away from Nick. Suddenly, Nick’s arms wrapped around my hips yet again bringing me back close to him.
Okay…then…I changed my mind
Nick’s soft voice lingered through my ear as he whispered to me making the butterflies in my stomach do a happy dance – and I didn’t blame them.
“Kati…I…” Nick whispered as I bit my lip and smiled at his soft voice running through my ear, “I lo…”
“Nick…Kati…? Where are you?” I heard Faye’s voice call from the other side. Nick and I quickly stepped away from each other as I fiddled with my hands behind my back.
“I guess…we should get back…” I said softly slightly glancing at Nick’s shy smile that warmed my fire red cheeks.
“Yea…we should…”Nick smiled reaching for my hand and gently grabbing it and stroking his thumb against mine.
I think I can get use to this
I must have had some stupid, love-sick smile plastered on my face as I stared at the side of Nick’s face as he led us around the bus because Joe and Kevin both cleared their throats before I noticed that everyone was staring at me and Gabby nudged her eye brows up in down slyly smirking at me. Nick’s gaze was fixed on Joe who was silently laughing trying his best not to make it too visible.
“So…where we’re you guys,” Faye bit her lip smiling knowingly at me then at Nick who stared at the ground and slowly let go of my hand.
“Uh…well... we were talking,” Nick stammered a bit clearing his throat while I just sat there with that stupid smile on my face.
Kati, its either you get that stupid grin off your face or you will have Gabby tease you for the rest of your life.
Quickly wiping the smile off my face I shook my head out of my trans and looked down at the ground yet again.
“So, we have to get going…you have our cell numbers so text us wherever you want and we’ll be there,” Kevin said as Mr. and Mrs. Jonas traveled down the path from my front door waving and smiling to my parents. Nick and I both snapped our heads to look at each other as my throat closed up at the thought that I wouldn’t get to see Nick’s brown eyes again. Nick smiled warmly at me making a rush of comfort wash over me while the others gave hugs to Gabby then started over to me.
“Kati, I’m going to miss you, we’ll see you soon, okay?” Kevin smiled while he side hugged me then pulled apart to make room for Joe who grabbed me into a hug almost knocking me over.
“You, Ms. Chase, need to brush up on your hide and seek skills for the next time, oh and you have to text him at least once a day, otherwise I’ll have to live with a crazy person on my bus,” Joe whisper-laughed pointing to Nick whole shook his head in disbelief.
“And I don’t know what that feels like,” Nick smirked at Joe who rolled his eyes then waved at Gabby and I before following Kevin on the bus. Faye calmly walked over to me and embraced me lightly.
“Okay, Gabby has my number, you update me on what goes on here, and I’ll update what happens on the bus of Jonas, and remember what I said about dating a Jonas,” Faye whispered to me slightly as Gabby and Nick said their goodbyes, “also, you aren’t going to be leaving that curlytop’s mind anytime soon,” Faye smirked and then followed the others onto the bus waving slightly. Nick turned from Gabby to me and fixed his eyes in mine. I filled my lungs then rushed the air out as I bit my lip nervously. Nick pulled me into a tight hug. Pulling the smell of Nick’s sweet cologne through my nose, I noted everything about him.
“I’ll miss you,” Nick whispered into my ear making my stomach flip continuously. I pulled away and shyly smiled at him watching him walk pass me toward the bus.
“Oh, and Kati…I…I lo…” Nick stopped in his tracks and started to speak sending chill toward my spins until he was cut off yet again making him bite his lip in frustration then take a deep breath.
“Nicholas, let’s go,” Joe yelled from inside the bus with a slight snicker to his voice.
Sweeping my gaze toward Nick’s eyes one last time, I smiled idiotically as he winked at me and jogged into the bus leaving me on the street with yet another stupid smile plastered on my face. Gabby cleared her throat causing me to snap out of my zone and jog toward her while Mr. and Mrs. Jonas passed us to board the bus.
“Thank you girls, you’ve been a great help, if you need anything just call us or the boys,” Mr. Jonas smiled nodding to us as me passed them.
“No, thank you for everything, we will hopefully see you soon,” I chimed in a particularly cheerful mood for 7:30 in the morning. Gabby and I followed up the path to the open front door waving at the tour bus as it drove out of the neighbor hood.
“So…dating a Jonas, huh?” Gabby slyly smiled as I shook my astonishment of the fact she actual heard Faye say that, but why should I be surprised it was Gabby.
Its official, now the entire world knows
