Okay, Kelsey. Here you go. Enjoy .<3
p.s. I had to post this so quickly I didn’t have time to read over it so I apologize for misspelled words or things that don’t make sense. =]
I Remember
I sat in the back of the cab, watching the city lights pass me by. We had a break in a leg of our headlining tour, so I was on my way home to surprise my wife. I glanced at the green, digital clock: 11:47. She’s probably asleep, I thought to myself.
“2107, right?” the cabbie asked.
“Yeah, this is it.” I grabbed my suitcase and handed the driver some bills. “Thanks.”
I walked up the stone pathway to the front porch with a smile. It was so good to be home. I dug around in the plant next to the door for the spare key and let myself in. I could hear the TV from the living room and I wondered why she had left it on. I set my suitcase by the stairs and headed toward the noise. I stopped in my tracks when I saw her. She was sleeping on the couch. She looked so innocent and vulnerable asleep. I got a blanket from the hall closet and wiggled my way next to her and covered us up. I kissed her cheek, but she barely even stirred.
I remember the first day we met. She was at one of our concerts. She was on my side, 2nd row. Something about her made her stand out from the rest of the girls. Her long, blonde hair flowed over her shoulders and those big, blue eyes pierced right through me. It was so hard for me to tear my eyes away from her as she swayed along to the beat. She was beautiful and perfect in every single way, and I hadn’t even met her yet—but I knew that I had to.
I remember our first date. I had told her that I would pick her up at 7:00 sharp. I ended up being fifteen minutes late because of an accident on the highway. I was pretty much freaking out because I had already screwed up and we hadn’t even gone on a date yet. Way to go, Kevin. But I was wrong. She couldn’t have been more understanding. She told me she forgave me and not to worry one bit. She had to have been an angel. It was hard for me to concentrate that night—she looked stunning in green.
I remember our first kiss. It was after our third date. I didn’t want her to begin to get bored, but I didn’t want to scare her away either by moving too fast, so I decided that the third date would be a perfect time. And it was. We were standing outside the door to her apartment, the wind whipping her hair around her face.
“I had a really great time tonight, Kevin,” she had said with that smile that made it hard to breathe.
“Me too,” I replied, trying to keep my eyes away from her mouth, wondering what it would feel like, taste like. Then it happened. I leaned forward and our lips touched ever so gently. She seemed surprised at first, but when she made a moan of approval, I knew she felt the same way.
I remember the first time I told her I loved her. I had thought about it long and hard, and I knew that I truly did. We were lying on a blanket in a wide open pasture, gazing at the stars up above. It was a warm, summer evening and I didn’t want to be any place else but lying there next to her. I had my arm around her shoulders and her head was resting on my chest, our bodies in sync, breathing as one.
“Kevin, look,” she pointed her finger in the air, “a shooting star!” I looked up just in time to see a streak of light race across the night sky. “Make a wish,” she whispered in my ear, her breath tickling my neck.
“Baby, my wish already came true,” I said.
“What did you wish for?”
“You.” She smiled and kissed the nape of my neck. I tilted her chin up so I could look into her eyes. “I love you, Kelsey.” I pressed my lips to hers before she had a chance to respond, but to my surprise when we pulled away, both breathing hard from the kiss, she said, “I love you too, Kevin.” We spent the rest of that night wrapped in each others arms, neither of us wanting to let go.
I remember the day I proposed to her. I had bought the best ring money could buy, because she deserved it. I had received her parents’ consent, as well as my own, and I had it all planned out. I took her out on the lake in a private boat. It was just at sunset, the pink sky reflecting beautifully off the water. It was perfect. She was sitting in my lap as the boat rocked back and forth.
“Kev, are you okay?” she asked, concern in her eyes. “You’ve been really quiet.”
“Baby, I’m more than okay whenever I’m with you.” I said, intertwining our fingers together. I kissed her head and prepared to say whatever came to my heart at that moment. “About a year and a half ago I met this girl. I knew from the moment I saw her that she was unlike any girl I’d ever known. She’s beautiful and kind and caring. She’s all I’ve ever wanted and more.” I dug for the ring in my pocket and slid her off my lap so I could stand in front of her. She looked at me questioningly as I got down on one knee, then suddenly, it clicked. She gasped and her hand flew to her mouth as she realized what I was doing.
“I know that I love her more than anything in the world,” I continued, “and that I want to be with her for the rest of my life. That’s why I’m asking her to marry me. Asking you to marry me. I love you so much, Kelsey. Be mine?” All she could do was nod as the tears flowed down her cheeks. She threw her arms around my neck and I breathed in her sweet scent that I knew so well.
“I want you, Kelsey. Forever.” I said into her hair.
“Forever. I love you.” She kissed me deeply and all I can say is that we didn’t return that boat for quite a while.
All these memories are what make life special, make life worth living. Oh, yes, I remembered them. I would remember them forever.
