Burning up for you
Her almost bright red hair shone brightly from her shoulders, which were covered in black fabric. With a little smile she pushed some hair behind her ear and walks with her head down looking at her feet as she walks. Somehow, she’s not quite sure how, she manages to walk straight into a tall boy, now she had height but he was even taller than she was.
“Woah slow down fire,” his voice says.
She looks up and spots very beautiful boy who had his arms wrapped tight around her body. She stares for a second before raising an eyebrow as she pushed her body away from his own.
“Fire?”
“Your hair it’s the color of fire,” he replies.
“I was thinking blood,” she answers before starting to walk off.
He follows after and she looks over at him slowly as he falls into step with her.
“So I’m Joe. Me and my family just moved here,” he says.
She just looks at him and continues her walk.
“So what’s your name,” he asks trying to get her to talk to him.
“Lindsey,” she answers looking skeptical at him.
“I like fire better,” he says.
She just nods her head and continues on her walk back to her house him following after. She lets him smiling and shaking her head and soon they become friends. Soon every Sunday he watches her scoot into her seat in the back of the church and sing her soul out. But as soon as the music stops she just bends her head down and he can’t see her anymore. And then when the service is over he hurries over to her and walks home with her just talking and listening and creating a tighter bond. Then it happens one Sunday she doesn’t show up and take her normal seat in the back of the church. In fact he doesn’t see her at all that week and the week after she doesn’t take her normal seat either and he starts to worry, that is until he hears a very familiar voice coming from the stage where the Preacher normally stands. His eyes turn and he spots her sitting there guitar in her hands as she strums out the cords. Soon her voice is speeding off along with the guitar in her hands in perfect harmony sounding as beautiful as he knew that she would sound. She finishes her song, places the guitar back down on the stand and makes her way off the stage. But instead of making her way to her normal seat in the back of the church she stops at the pew next to Joe and looks at him questioning. He smiles patting the seat next to himself and she takes the seat grinning widely. From that day on she doesn’t sit in the back of the church all by herself she sits next to him as he sits with his family a little smile on her face and a big goofy grin on his.
“Fire,” he starts one day as they walk to her house.
“Water,” she’d gotten in the habit of calling him that.
“You know I love you right,” he asks?
Her face shows her shock as she turns to look at the cute boy standing right next to her. No one had ever told her that they loved her before and this boy who she had met barely six months before was.
“Why?”
“Lindsey I’m gonna be leaving for a little bit,” Joe says softly.
“How long Joe,” she asks knowing that if he was using her real name it was a big deal?
“A few months...”
“Oh,” she says softly.
“Fire I’ll call you every day and send you long letters and,” he says.
“You don’t have to Water all I ask is that you come back. Everyone who leaves never comes back and I don’t want to loose you,” she mumbles.
“Promise I will be back here walking you home from church very soon,” he answers.
“Okay...”
The days pass and she begins to realize what a change Joe had made in her, she was wearing brighter clothing, before her favorite and most worn color was black, she smiled more and was more outgoing, normally she was shy, and she performed on stage, something she wouldn’t have dreamed of doing before meeting Joe. She slowly becomes that shy reserved girl who doesn’t really talk to anyone and wears all black, sitting in the back of the church again. Joe calls often enough, most of the time it’s a Sunday and he calls on her walk home making her week a little brighter to begin with. But then one Sunday she doesn’t hear his familiar ring tone as she walks home and she realizes that he probably was just to busy, or he forgot her. She goes through the week as normal as possible and when she gets to church that next week sits back in the back row, like she always had until she heard a very familiar voice coming from the front of the church.
“So um this is Burning up,” his voice says.
She watches and listens as him and his brothers perform the song her eyes never leaving him and as he walks off the stage and slips into his normal pew she walks up and joins him, grabbing his hand in her own and squeezing it tightly. When church ends they do their normal thing, walking home together talking.
“So what did you think of that song Fire,” Joe asks softly?
“I loved it,” she replies.
“Good cause you know it was for you,” he says.
“Really?”
“You are fire and I am burning up for you baby,” Joe replies.
“Well I’m burning up for you too,” Lindsey smiles looking at him.
With a smile he does the thing he had been wanting to do since he met her. He leans down and touches their lips together in a soft and perfect first kiss.
