Life In The Magazines
Her brown eyes were almost blocked by her dark brown and blond hair but she could still read the magazine in her hands. It was all about her favorite band, the Jonas Brothers, and she couldn’t wait to read every little bit of her. Spotting her favorite Jonas boy, the youngest in the band she sighs and stares for a minute until she realizes that there is someone staring at her. She can’t see them but she can feel them staring at her back. She turns and spots a very cute looking boy wearing blue skinny jeans, a red shirt huge red sunglas.ses and a hat. She raises her eyebrow at him before turning her eyes back to the picture of Nick.
“What’s so special about him,” a rough voice asks from behind her?
“Do you want the truth,” she asks turning to look back at him?
“Yea,” he nods.
“Well then come on sit I’ll tell you everything that makes me love him,” she smiles.
The boy sits down in the chair next to her and she notices a familiar piece of jewelry but can’t place where she’s seen it before. With a little smile she tells him how Nick, is inspiring, not letting his diabetes tear him down or cripple him like so many other people would. How he is stronger than most people she knew because of his beliefs and how focused he was. She explained how much his music meant to so many girls in the world and how some days hearing his voice could cheer up people. She told him how he inspired her to start guitar. How he helped her find her voice when she thought all hope was lost. As everything she said sunk in the boy sitting next to her slowly grew calmer and nicer his face slowly forming a smile. And then she said the last thing she could about him.
“And he is clearly a good example for millions of teenagers around the world. He has his strong religious beliefs and he wears a purity ring to show it. He knows exactly who he is and he doesn’t try and change himself for anyone. He’s amazing plain and simple,” she says.
“You sure think highly of him,” the boy says.
“I don’t understand how people could sit there and call him and his brothers sell outs or fakes. I know fake people they are the least fake people I have ever heard of. Well I got to go,” she says looking at the clock over his shoulder.
“Wait can I at least know your name,” he asks not wanting to let her leave without knowing her name.
“Malou. I really got to go now. And now you know what’s so great about Nick Jonas,” she grins running off.
*Four weeks later*
She sat in the exact same place looking at the next issue of the same magazine that she was reading before. She liked all the people in it but she really wanted to read about him, it had been a while since people had heard from him and she was starting to wonder. Oh there it was the article about it titled Nick Jonas Opens Up and in little letters under that ‘about the girl who made him realize why he sings’. She scans the page and realizes these characteristics and reasons are all things that she believes about him and thinks that this girl is pretty smart, but her mouth drops when she spots the name of the girl who said all these things. In big bold letters at the bottomr of the interview it read, Malou you made me realize why I sing and that I do it for fans like you. Meet me same place same time. I’ll see you there.
Her eyes fly to the clock and she realizes that he would be there any second. And she started to freak out. Her feet started to tap out the beat faster than they normally would as she tried to calm down and finish reading the rest of the magazine.
“Malou,” a familiar rough voice says causing her to turn.
“Why didn’t you tell me,” she asks spotting his signature curls?
“I just I wanted to know without you knowing who I am. Cause most girls explanations involve me being hott. And have nothing to do with anything you said really. I mean I didn’t want to be Nick anymore. But you changed that,” Nick says looking at her.
“And you think my answer would have changed if I knew who you were. Your crazy you know that? I’m not going to sit there and be fake with you. I told you I hate fake people and by not telling me it makes it seem like...”
“I know but I couldn’t just sit there and be like I’m him I’m Nick. You would have screamed and freaked out and everyone would have known,” Nick says shaking his head.
She reaches her hand over and rests it on his arm looking him straight in the eyes.
“Do I really seem like that type of fan Nick? The one who only likes you cause of the money you have and the fact that you could introduce me to your brothers cause if I do then I’ll just leave. I’m not going to use you,” Malou says standing and shoving her hand in her pocket the magazine in the other.
She starts to walk off and he catches up quickly, grabbing her pocketed hand, he literally reached his hand down and grabbed hers from her pocket, lacing their fingers together. They walk like that for hours talking and then he has to leave but not before getting her phone number so that he can call her on the road.
They talk every day while he is gone and then when the newest edition of the magazine comes out she falls into her routine of going to the mall buying it and sitting and reading the magazine. She wasn’t expecting him back in town that day, he told her that he wouldn’t be back for a while longer so when he took his seat next to her and grabbed hold of her hand she was shocked. Their relationship went from friendship to more that day.
That became their thing, meeting there every month, no matter what else was going on and reading the magazine together and talking. They kept it up for five years until both were twenty and then he missed a month. She was sad but she knew that he had to he was in Europe for the month, leaving his heart and her back in the states. The next month came quickly and he was there with her again leaning over and whispering in her ear, giving her kisses every once and a while until she got to the very last page.
It was an article about him and she read it out loud because she loved to read about him and everything that he was doing. She smiled through it all occasionally stopping to tell him how wonderful he was or to give him a small kiss over something cute that was said in the article about something he did. And then when she reaches the last line her eyes grow wide and she doesn’t believe what she is reading. There in big bold letters for the whole world to see he shocked her.Malou, I love you with all of my being and I would love to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you Marry Me?
Her eyes fly to the brunette man who had been sitting next to her and was now kneeling in front of her a beautiful engagement ring in his hand. All she could do was nod in between tears and kisses as he slid the ring onto her finger. She couldn’t believe it, her life had changed to begin with thanks to the June 2008 issue of Popstar and now five years later reading the June 2013 issue of Popstar she knew it was only going to get better. Her life in the magazines.
