Worlds Are Spinning Round (one shot for Ashley)

This is the other one shot I had for the exchange Ashley, Ren, and I did. Ashley's prompt was that she got all three guys. :D I had fun with this haha.

Worlds Are Spinning Round

Kevin couldn’t help but laugh as he watched Joe practically bounce off the dressing room walls, a blue-gray blur darting around the small space. He knew it was a bad idea to bet Joe he couldn’t down three Red Bulls in a row, but that hadn’t stopped him from doing it anyway. At the time, it seemed pretty funny. And now, the end result was Nick and Kevin on the couch, watching their middle brother in amusement and desperately wishing for a camera.

“Can we go do something? Can we? Can we start sound check? When does sound check start? Soon? I would really like to start it soon, so I can do something. Cause I’m bored. Really bored. So when does it start?” Joe said in a rush, hardly stopping to take a breath, brown eyes wide with energy.

Nick rolled his eyes with a smirk, shaking out his tousled curls. “We still have three hours, Joe.” He turned to Kevin, trying to hold back the laughter. “The fans are going to wonder why he needs the mic stand to keep himself standing when he crashes just before the concert starts,”

“That should be interesting,” Kevin mused, setting down his Starbucks cup and imagining Joe falling asleep on stage with a smirk.

“I’m gonna go to the bathroom!” Joe announced loudly, holding up a finger for emphasis before rushing towards the door. He flung open the door, only to have it make a loud cracking noise and bounce back towards him. He stepped back in surprise, his energy drink-clouded brain not processing what had just happened.

“ ‘Crack’?” he blinked, as his two brothers stood from the couch, puzzled.

“What was that, Joe?” Nick queried at the sudden noise.

“I don’t know…” Joe mumbled, twitching at the effort of staying in one place. They rounded the door and gaped at what they found.

Ashley glanced at her surroundings with some slight trepidation but much more excitement. How she had managed to wander backstage was a mystery, but she knew Mel, Ren, and Bre would not be surprised. She had a away of getting herself into situations like this. Ashley just hoped this one didn’t end with her getting thrown out of the venue. She pictured her friends waiting back in their seats in the arena and a grin passed over her face. They probably knew she was lost by this point. She had been gone a good twenty minutes.

She kept up a steady, quick pace, just trying to pretend she belonged there by looking busy and walking with a purpose. Stopping to ask someone for directions would have most likely been the fastest way back to her seat, but Ashley didn’t want to risk getting tackled by burly security guards for being in a restricted area. She was sure they’d probably had to deal with crazy fans who sneak into places they shouldn’t be, and she really didn’t want to find out what happened to those fans.

Even though Ashley should have had all her energy focused on navigating the confusing backstage hallways, a part of her was scanning the people around her for curly hair and tight pants, her heart jumping every time she saw someone close to her age and male.

Refocusing on the task of getting out of the backstage area without getting caught made Ashley stop daydreaming. She sped up her pace slightly and turned around just in time to see a door swing forward in front of her. A burst of pain erupted on the side of her head, and then all she saw was black.

“Joe! You hit someone!” Kevin exclaimed in shock, rushing over to the unconscious figure on the ground. The three boys clustered around the unmoving girl on the floor. Joe, instantly calmer, gently brushed some strands of her dark brown hair out of her face.

“She’s out cold,” he murmured, looking upset. Taking the initiative, he slid his arms under the girl and scooped her up bridal style, carrying her into the dressing room from which they had just burst out of.

He laid her down on the couch, her head supported by the throw pillow. The three brothers stepped back, staring unsurely at the unresponsive girl before them. “Should we call an ambulance or something?” Nick bit his lip lightly.

“Let’s give her a bit to wake up, since she’s still breathing and all. Hopefully she’s just dazed from the hit. If she isn’t up soon, then we’ll call.” Kevin decided with a quick glance at the clock.

It was another half an hour before there was any response out of her. Kevin and Nick had stepped out to check on how the setting up was going. Joe stayed behind so that if the girl did wake up, she wouldn’t be bewildered in a strange room by herself.

He was propped up in a chair next to the couch, flipping through a magazine without actually looking at the pages. He nearly fell out of his seat when she let out a pained groan, her hands flying up to her head.

Ashley struggled to sit up, her head pounding mercilessly. Joe was instantly at her side, holding her arm to support her.

Ashley didn’t really notice the strong arms wrapped around her, too focused on the splitting headache throbbing through her entire skull. Someone had really done a number on her with that door.

A voice spoke up to her right, and she tried to focus on the person’s face. All she got was brown hair and concerned eyes, her head still swimming too badly to make any real sense of who was talking.

Joe felt awful as he saw her glassy eyes and dizzy expression. He must have hit her really hard.

Rubbing her back in soothing circles, Joe started talking softly so as to not aggravate her headache anymore. “I’m really sorry about that. I was a little too excited and I pushed the door open too hard. Are you okay?”

“I’ve been better,” Ashley said quietly, massaging her temples. “But I’ll be fine.”

“I still feel awful. Can I take you out to dinner to make up for it?”

Joe surprised himself with that question. Here, he had only known this girl for all of a minute, and he was already asking her out. One thing was for sure, this was not a pity date. He was getting flustered at the close contact with this complete stranger, but he didn’t mind at all.

Ashley wondered if her hearing was messed up too. Did this guy really just ask her out just a few seconds after she had regained consciousness? He must have felt really bad to be so abrupt. His voice sounded so maddeningly familiar, but as she squinted at the guy by her side, she was still not able to put any real focus on his face. “I’m Ashley,” she murmured, thinking introductions would be appropriate before any real date-accepting occurred.

Before Joe could introduce himself, Mr. Jonas appeared at the door, calling him out to have his mic fitted. Joe stood, promising to send in one of his brothers to keep her company. Ashley probably should have put two-and-two together, but she had just been knocked out by a door to the head.

Her head was still spinning when another person entered the room, hurrying over to her and plopping down in the chair the first guy had occupied previously.

“How’s your head?” he asked, voice surprised.

          “Good.”

          “…Really?”

“Well, if good means ‘mercilessly pounding migraine’, then yes.”

Kevin had to laugh. Even sporting a head trauma, this girl was funny. He could only imagine how nice she would be to be around when not in pain. He couldn’t help but clasp her hand, a friendly smile on his face that she could barely see. “I’d like to make up for my brother’s idiocy by taking you out to dinner. Would that be alright?”

If Ashley had been able to think clearly at that point, she would have realized she already had an impromptu date with one brother. But her head was still fogged, so she managed a quiet acceptance, making Kevin’s face light up.

Their conversation couldn’t continue, as Nick entered the room, glancing around. “Kev? I left my phone on the bus. Could I borrow yours?”

Kevin pursed his lips, digging through his pockets. “Ah, Mom has it. I’ll go get it for you. Stay with Ashley?”

Ashley didn’t think to ask how he knew her name. Her mind was just starting to click on the whole ‘brothers’ thing, having just heard ‘Kev’ from the newest addition to the room.

Nick sat down next to Ashley on the couch, looking happy to see her awake. Her head had cleared by this point, and while she was having trouble recollecting the events that had just happened, she was aware enough now to realize who was sitting in the room with her.

“Oh…hey…Nick Jonas…” she said, eyes wide with disbelief. “…I must have hit my head pretty hard, I’m going delusional.”

He laughed, a melodic sound that sent Ashley reeling once again.

“Nope, you’re not delusional. But how is your head?” The mirth on Nick’s face was replaced with concern at he reached up a hand and very tenderly touched the side of her head. Ashley was dimly aware of a twinge of pain, but she was too lost in chocolate brown eyes to really notice or care. Nick’s eyes met her light green ones and he couldn’t help but stare.

Realizing with a start that his hand was still pressed lightly to the side of her face, he dropped it, cheeks turning pink with embarrassment. “So! Um. If you’re feeling up to it, would you like to get dinner or something after the show?”

Nick blinked at the odd look that passed over her face, instantly regretting the question. “What?” he asked, not looking forward to the answer.

“I just got deja-vu for some reason…” she mumbled, looking confused.

Relief washed over Nick. She wasn’t recoiling from the thought of a date with him. In fact, if he could have read her mind, he would have been shocked by the screaming in her head. Maintaining a relative level of calm, Ashley smiled at him. “I’d love to get dinner.” She frowned. “I just wish I could remember why this seems so familiar…”

At that exact moment, Joe and Kevin entered the room from separated doors, not noticing each other. “Are we still on for dinner?” they asked simultaneously. After a surprised double-take at each other, they turned to Ashley who was staring at them, bewildered.

“What…” She trailed off suddenly, her mouth forming a small ‘o’ shape as the fuzzy memories hit her. “…Oh.” Her eyes widened. “Oh!” She looked back and forth between all three boys, once again feeling dizzy.

How could anyone make a choice like this? So she did what any true fan would. She went with all three.

Twenty minutes after the best concert she had ever been to, Ashley found herself tucked in a small corner of a cute restaurant at a table with the Jonas Brothers. Melissa, Ren, and Bre were shocked to say the least, but were happy for their friend…once she promised to meet up with them after dinner so they could all hang out.

Ashley really couldn’t believe her luck. Dinner with the Jonas Brothers was good enough. Dinner with Jonas Brothers who were quite determinedly flirting with her was a dream come true. Innocent knee-bumping, reaching over to squeeze her hand, catching her eye…Ashley was in heaven.

And as the puzzled waiter brought over the check, intent on kicking them out as the restaurant tried to close for the night, Ashley realized they had spent a good three hours talking and laughing. Joe helped her into her jacket as Kevin paid the bill. Nick took her arm as she stood and they walked out in a cheerful group to the car in the empty parking lot.

And as Nick slid into the backseat next to her, shooting her a warm smile, Ashley realized that taking a door to the head was the best thing that had ever happened to her.

The End.
