Rain, Stars, and True Feelings
“What are you doing out here?” a dark haired boy asked the girl standing in front of him.
“I was looking at the stars, and now I’m standing in the rain. What did you think I was doing?” the girl answered back. Her dark brown hair was now drenched and she could barely see out of her glas.ses but she knew who was there. She always knew when he was near thanks to that scent and voice that she had grown so used to over the past couple of years.
“I don’t know. Being your usual crazy self,” he responded. He loved the way her eyes shone when she was excited, and one thing he could always count on was the rain making her happy.
“Well that too,” she joked. “What are you doing here anyway? Don’t you have somewhere else to be for a show or something?”
“Not tonight. Tonight I’m here for my best friend’s birthday,” he spoke softly as he stepped closer to her. He hated having to call her his best friend though. It wasn’t what he wanted. He wanted to be able to call her his. To hold her in his arms and to never let go. To steal a kiss whenever he could. To tell her how much he loved her every chance he got.
“Well I’m glad that you came Joe. It’s always great to have you around but it’s especially nice on my birthday,” she replied as she stepped closer as well. Thanks to the rain, she was starting to shiver. Joe noticed this right away and wrapped his arms around her in a hug to try and keep her warm, even though he was thoroughly drenched by now as well. She laid her head on his chest as she wrapped her arms around his waist and just listened to his heart beat.
“Your heart’s racing,” she told him as she pulled her head back so she could look into his beautiful brown eyes. She knew that if she ever got the chance, she would be able to look into those eyes forever. She’d stay in his arms and would never let him go.
“It always does that when I’m around you, Crystal,” he responded sweetly as he reached his hand up to brush back a strand of hair that had attached itself to her face.
“Why? I mean it’s not like I’m much of a reason for your heart to race,” she asked confused. She was his best friend and had been since she met the boys back at one of their shows when they were first starting out in the music business. She got the chance to hang out with them and her and Joe connected almost instantly. They got along easily and almost two months after they met, they were talking on the phone whenever Joe got the chance.
Joe looked at her and couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Here was the most beautiful, caring, amazing girl he had ever met, and she didn’t think that just being herself was enough to make a guy’s heart race. “Are you kidding me Crystal? You’re you. That right there is reason enough.”
“Whatever,” she pulled away from him and went back to staring at the sky.
“Why is it that you can’t see how great you are Crystal?” he asked softly. So softly in fact, she barely even heard him.
She couldn‘t stop her next question from slipping out of her mouth, no matter how hard she tried. “How can I when the guy I’m in love with only sees me as his best friend?” she asked as she finally looked at him again. This time though Joe noticed the tears falling down her face.
Joe was at her side in a flash when he saw the tears. As he tried his best to brush them away he responded with something that would change their relationship for the rest of their lives. “How do you know that’s all he sees you as? Because if you ask me, he’s an idiot if he doesn’t love you back.”
She looked at him slightly confused. “Just what are you trying to say Joseph Adam?”
“I’m trying to say, that I’m in love with you Crystal Anna,” he replied. He pulled her closer to him as he laid a soft kiss to her lips. After a few seconds he pulled away. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that,” he mumbled as their foreheads rested against each other.
“I might have an idea,” she responded with a slight smile as she leaned up to kiss him again. Neither one of them noticed that the rain had stopped and the stars were once again shining brightly in the night sky.
