Chapter 2
“So, Kylie, how does it feel like to win American Idol?”
“What kind of songs would you want to be on your new album?”
“Do you think Lauren Seitz hates you now?”
“What was your reaction to winning?”
“Are you excited about the upcoming album?”
The questions wouldn’t stop!
The security guards pushed the news reporters out of the way. I was being attacked by a mob of people who wanted to ask me unnecessary questions.
Somehow, I managed to get out of the screaming crowd. I got into the limousine that would take me to the American Idol Finale after party. Everyone would be there, including famous people, family, and friends. It didn’t feel like it was all for me.
When I entered the party room, it did.
Everyone started applauding at once. Fergie came up to me and said, “Congratulations!” Linkin Park said, “You really deserved it!” Hilary Duff told me, “You sing great!” I looked around the room to find the people who I was most anticipated to see. My family.
I found them, and a rush of congratulations poured out of their mouths, as well as stuff like, “We are so proud of you!” and “You did awesome, Kylie! Good job!”
I couldn’t stop smiling. This was truly a miracle. Never in my dreams had I thought that I would become American Idol. A singer.
The first thirty minutes of the party I didn’t even have time to breathe. There were so many people who wanted to talk to me. Finally, I got the chance of at least getting a drink.
I walked over to the bar and asked for a glass of coke. As I waited, I heard a voice behind me.
“Congratulations.”
I turned around to see the Jonas Brothers grinning at me. Well, not all of them. Only one was not smiling. It was the middle one…the one with straight hair. I couldn’t remember his name. Didn’t it start with a “J”?
“Um, thanks.” I said in response.
“You were awesome up there on stage,” said the youngest.
“Yeah, like, every single week.” Said the other one.
I picked up my glass of coke, and said, “You guys watched the show?”
“Well, we couldn’t see it every week, but Joe here actually watched it every week.” He motioned over to the one who wasn’t smiling.
His face instantly flushed.
“He always had to find some way to watch it.”
Joe looked at his brother with a face. It was almost a glare.
“Uh…” said the youngest one, “Hey Kevin? Let’s go over there and talk to…uh…Miley over there.”
“Sure thing Nick,” said Kevin.
They both quickly went over to Miley Cyrus, snickering along the way.
They left Joe and I in an awkward silence.
“Is that true? What they said?” I asked, breaking the silence.
He smiled. “Yeah…I, uh…really like…the show. Yeah, the show.”
I nodded, even though I doubted that the show was the only thing he liked about it.
“You…sing really good,” he commented.
“Thanks.”
“I bet you’ve been hearing that a lot tonight.”
I nodded.
“But you know what?”
“What?”
Joe got an inch closer and whispered, “It’s true.” With a smile, he winked at me.
Suddenly, my mother came to me and said, “Come on Kylie, you need to meet Carrie Underwood.”
I sighed and said, “I’m coming.”
“We need you right now.” She dragged me towards the front of the room.
I looked back at Joe who was staring at me with an expression that clearly said he didn’t want me to leave.
It was midnight and I was sitting in my room. The party was over, but I couldn’t sleep, so I was on the computer.
I found an interview of Joe Jonas, and clicked on it. I skimmed through the interview, but my eyes stopped on one question.
So how do you tell a girl you like her? Like, what’s your flirt code?
Um, I usually like, send her a random text message during the day. I also wink at her. [Laughs] Ha ha, I know, I’m a big flirt.
Joe had winked at me during the party.
