Chapter 3:
Erin woke to the sound of a guitar strumming. She opened her eyes and looked around the room, where was she? The bright sun kissed her face, putting a rather annoying glare in her eye, and caused her to shield her face with her hand. With her eyes blocked from the sun, she could now make out her surroundings. The ugly floral print on the walls and comforter clashed, her sheets were itchy, and a small table with two chairs was set up in the corner of the room. Erin sighed, she was in a hospital. Looking down she realized she was wearing a hospital gown and her jeans. Gross!
“Ugh!” Erin kicked the mattress, her head beginning to feel dizzy. A small chuckle was the only noise in the room. She whipped her head around trying to find where the noise came from, her vision only becoming more blurred from the sudden movement. Erin ’s grasped her forehead, a small cry escaping her lips. Squinting her eyes, she tried to make the room stop spinning so she could remember why the heck she was here. She heard footsteps coming towards her and a two hands rest on her stomach, causing her to jump.
Erin opened her eyes, only to be greeted by two big golden brown ones staring right back. She smiled when she saw how cute Joe looked; his arms were crossed and were laying on her stomach, his head resting on top of them, and his famous goofy grin was plastered across his face.
“Good Morning Beautiful” Joe’s grin spread even farther when he saw Erin blush. Erin felt her heart flutter, why did he have to be so darn cute? She ran her hand through his hair and laughed.
“How are you feeling?” His eyes filled with concern. Sitting up, Joe scooted his chair closer to Erin ’s bed and began stroking her hand. She stilled looked pretty beat up. Her hair, though not as bad as before, was still slightly matted and dirty. The large gash on her forehead was now outlined by a gruesome bruise that seemed to be getting worse by the second, and gauze had been placed over her eye. Joe wasn’t sure how the gash on back was, but knew that the second she moved it was cause her pain.
“Fine I guess, I’m just dizzy and nauseous, I can’t feel my face or back, and I have no idea why I’m in hospital bed.” Erin laughed.
Joe’s jaw dropped at the last comment. She doesn’t remember? How could you forget that? He grabbed her hand and squeezed trying to think an easy way to explain what had happened.
Before the words could escape his lips a loud bang resembling a gun shot was heard coming from outside the hospital. And just like that, everything came flooding back into Erin ’s memory, every last detail. Erin couldn’t help it, she began to sob and flung forward, covering her face with her hands. An ear piercing scream escaped her lips, as she felt a shock run up her spine. She gasped for air, not knowing what had happened, and reached back to touch her bare back. Two strong hands gripped hers and brought them back around, laying them in her lap. Erin ’s tear stained face looked up to see a concerned, gloomy Joe staring back at her. He lifted his hands, cupped her face, and wiped away the tears with his thumbs.
Erin sighed when she felt his muscular arms wrap around her. Joe’s warm skin felt good against her back. A shiver ran down her spine as Joe’s fingers traced the sides of her gash. Erin buried her face in the crook of his neck inhaling his Ed Hardy cologne, while trying to calm her raging hormones. She definitely loved him.
Joe sat down on the bed as he continued to tickle her back. Erin ’s hot breath against his neck was sending chills through his body. Gosh he loved her, but why couldn’t he just tell her. It would totally ruin their friendship, although by the looks of it she seemed to be more than friends. Ugh! He couldn’t let this lead him on, Erin was always flirting with him, but he knew she just wanted to stay friends. Jnajkdhj! Why can’t she just love me back and stop playing with my emotions?
“Joe? Earth to Joe!” Erin tapped his shoulder.
“Huh? Oh! Sorry… yes?” Joe had been so caught up in his thoughts he hadn’t even heard Erin . Joe heard someone in the back ground clear there throat and began to blush, recognizing instantly who it was. With out even looking he let go of Erin and slid down from the bed, into a near by seat, covering his face he began to blush madly.
An older looking doctor with bushy eyebrows and hair brushed by Joe and over to Erin . He checked her blood pressure, eye, and gashes.
“Well Ms. Sharpe, you seem to be getting better. I estimate you might be able to get out of this joint by Thursday” The doctor wrote something down on his clip board, then looked at erin . Today was Monday which meant only two more days and she’d be out of here!
“Alright! Thanks Doc.!” Erin cheered silently inside her head. The doctor gave her a few pills to take and then inserted something into her iv.
“Ok! Well that should stop the pain for a few hours. Now…I’ll just let you two love birds be. Make a cute couple by the way.” Joe felt his face heat up and a grin begin to form on his face.
When the doctor left neither of them could hold it any longer and burst out laughing. Joe fell onto the floor and gasped for air and Erin was holding onto her stomach, her whole body shaking.
“AH! I have to pee!” Joe got up from the floor and ran over to the small door that led to the bathroom. Erin laughed even harder until all her breath was gone, Joe was hilarious! When Joe finished in the bathroom he walked over to her bed and sat down on it. He picked up the guitar and began to softly play it.
“You need to get some rest.” Joe softly stroked Erin ’s head. She leaned her body back and snuggled into the bed, listening to Joe’s soft angelic voice.
“Every time I think I'm close to the heart, what it means to know just who I am
I think I've finally found a better place to start, where no one ever seems to understand.
I need to try to get to where you are. Could it be you're not that far.
You're the voice I hear inside my head the reason that I'm singing I need to find you, I gotta find you.”
Erin felt her eye lids grow heavy and finally shut. A small sigh escaped her lips before she fell into a deep sleep, with the boy of her dreams singing her to sleep.
