Immersed deep in thought, he drives down the freeway, his best friend sitting by his side. He planned to go alone, but when she insisted that she come too, he wasn’t about to object. It was a half-hour drive to LAX to pick up his brother who had spent the weekend with his girlfriend at her college in New York City.
Casual conversation filled the car as the LA skyline flew by in a blur. He stole glances, ever-so-slightly, as not to catch her eye. You see, his feelings for her had now grown and he couldn’t contain them any longer. Every time she smiled, he stopped breathing for an instant, and couldn’t help himself but smile back at her. With every moment that they locked eyes, he lost himself within her gaze. He had fallen victim to her, and he didn’t mind one bit.

He was never one to express his feelings openly. He was more of a quiet and secluded soul. His shyness was of great value in this situation, providing a stable shelter for his feelings. It wasn’t before long when his brothers became aware of how he felt towards his best friend. Unfortunately, this is as far as anyone with knowledge of the subject goes.
With her, he felt that his heart was whole. Like the key to his heart was held within her grasp. He didn’t understand how someone like her could make him feel like he was invincible. He was a strong and courageous person, but the one thing that proved difficult was admitting his feelings to her. It astonished him that he could perform in front of thousands of fans on a daily-basis, but he couldn’t find it inside himself to tell her everything he wanted to. He was a lover all alone. His heart had found a home, and was beckoning for him to let it take control.

When his family moved to LA 6 years ago, she was walking her dog down the driveway of her home, right next door to theirs. You could say that it was love-at-first sight. She became the only one that he could talk to; every free minute of his time was spent with her.
She never forgot anything he told her, she was always there. After every concert, she left a text message on his cell so it would be waiting for him as he came off the stage, and they talked every night regardless of how busy he was.

He watched her date other people, his heart breaking with each and every one. He longed for it to be him she was with; he yearned to be the one she passionately kissed. When her heart was broken by those guys foolish enough to let her go, he comforted her and nursed her heart back to health.
He valued her friendship more than anything. This is what prevented him from revealing his feelings for her. Because if she didn’t return them, their friendship would never be the same. He had loved her for 6 years, and its time she finally knew the truth.

They arrived at the airport and pulled over in the cell-phone lot, where Joe would call when he had retrieved his bags. He found an open space under the shade of a nearby palm tree and parked the car, shutting it off but remaining inside the vehicle. She reclined her seat and looked up at the sky, airplanes looming overhead. She shielded the sun from her eyes with her hand before speaking, “I wish I was on one of those airplanes. I don’t care where it’s going or when it’s coming back, but I want to be on it. I need a vacation.”
He laughed and they continued to sit in silence waiting for Joe’s phone call.

Nick took a deep breath and turned to look at her, “I love you, Brittany.”
She met his gaze and responded, “Aww, Nick! I love you too!”
Nick sighed heavily before continuing, “No, I am in love with you. I have been for 6 years, ever since I first laid eyes on you.”
He eyes began to water and soon, tears began to fall down her cheeks.
“Oh no, Brittany. Please don’t cry. I’m sorry. I just needed to tell you before it was too late and I never get the chance to. And I’m completely fine if you don’t feel the same. Honest.” Nick lied through his teeth. The fact of the matter is, he’d be devastated if she didn’t return the feelings.
She mumbled something, causing Nick to look at her in confusion. Clearing her throat in between sobs, she blurted out, “I love you too.”
The words processed in Nicks head before he spoke, “Do you… do you really mean that?”
She closed her eyes and nodded her head, “Yes, Nick. I do.”
With that, Nick gently touched her cheek, wiping away a few lingering tears before smiling and leaning forward. He took her hand in his and lifted her chin, brushing his lips upon hers before pulling her close. Brittany kissed him back passionately, she could feel the fire within his touch. Time seemed to stand still for the couple, loosing themselves completely within the kiss.
Nick’s phone rang. It was Joe. He slowly broke away from Brittany, both blushing profusely and gasping for air. He took his phone in his hand and hit the “ignore” button.
She laughed, “Wasn’t that Joe?!”
Nick nodded, “Yeah, but he can wait. We’re a little busy.” And with that he kissed her again, silently agreeing with his heart. He was crazy for this girl.
