You want to talk about revelation?
Nick knew he wasn’t supposed to lose himself completely as they kissed; their tongues dancing together in a similar fashion as their bodies, but he was addicted the second his hands weaved into her hair, sighing into the kiss as she latched onto him.
He reveled in their touch as they lost themselves to the feel of one another, but it was over too soon. After a few moments she pushed him away softly but firmly, and he tried to lose the dazed look in his eyes. He could tell by her smile that he was failing miserably. “We need to go.” She said before grabbing his hand as they left the club.
They were silent for a few moments before Nick finally found his voice. “What was all that about?” he asked curiously.
Ashley smiled as they drove down a road Nick had never been. “I’ll explain later,” she said, trying to change the subject, “you wouldn’t believe me anyway.”
Nick didn’t want to drop the topic, but he could tell she did. He didn’t know when he learned how to read her expressions so easily, but he knew she didn’t like it. He wanted to know why they even went to the club, but he would always be left with more questions than answers with her, so he remained silent.
“Hey kid, you hungry?” she said an hour later, the car being silent for that long. Nick scowled but nodded his head. She grinned and they pulled into a fast food place. They placed their orders and stood patiently as it was prepared. Ashley didn’t ask Nick for money, knowing he didn’t have any, and Nick felt a little embarrassed about that fact.
“Sorry I’m broke,” he mumbled, shaking the curls from his face. He was going to say more when his phone rang, causing him to fumble for it.
“Hello?” he said, knowing it was his mom. “Hey mom, not much, still studying.” He saw Ashley get the food and followed her to a booth where he continued his conversation, Ashley watching in interest.
“Well you know how Geography is, all those places, not enough time to learn where they all are. But yeah, we should be done studying in a few hours and then his mom is forcing us to go to bed. Okay, I love you too mom, bye.”
“Not bad, Nick, not bad.” Ashley said in approval, eating a fry.
“What are you talking about?” he asked, helping himself to one of the burgers on the tray.
“Well, you could work on your performance a bit, but that lie was a pretty good one.”
“I take it you’ve had practice with lying?” he said, his appetite kicking in as he dived into the burger.
Her green eyes darkened momentarily before returning to their natural shade. “You could say that.”
Once again, they were left in silence, the only interruptions being the crinkling of the paper or the slight crunch of the food. They got into the car, and Nick realized just how tired he was. The adrenaline rushes he’d had were dying out, leaving him sleepy and cranky.
Ashley must have been tired as well, because Nick couldn’t see her checking into a hotel for any other reason. Surely if she weren’t tired she would have left him to sleep in the passenger seat as they headed for wherever they were going.
They slowly walked to their room, Nick’s feet dragging as his head tried to keep itself upright. He thought he heard Ashley snicker at the sight of him, but it could have been the drowsiness. Ashley opened the door, a pro at hotel key cards and they walked inside.
It was a modestly size hotel room, not the greatest, but neither of them were concerned with luxury, preferring a good night’s sleep over unneeded extras. Nick chose the bed nearest the door, throwing himself on it with reckless abandon, causing a chuckle from Ashley. He watched her throw her purse on the other bed, and was interested when a tiny package fell from it. Ashley must not have noticed it, going to the bathroom to get ready for sleep, but Nick got up and picked it up from the ground.
He wasn’t naïve enough to not know what he was holding, and when Ashley got out of the bathroom he’d dumped her purse, it being full of the packages and money tucked away in the zipper.
“What are you doing?” she growled, angry at the intrusion of her privacy.
But Nick was having none of it, with a shaky but angry voice, he had one question to ask. “You’re a drug dealer?”
